To Ask for a Psychic Reading?

Pretty please?

I'm too scared to go in person.

OP posts:

Derren Brown is a mentalist. Few people can exert that level of control over another person's thoughts. Certainly not the average common or garden spiritual or psychic reader. Many people do believe that they are genuinely connecting with the supernatural, however you want to define that.

venusinscorpio · 21/08/2016 14:28

And newspaper Sun sign horoscopes may have a vague meaning that can apply to everyone but a full natal astrological chart certainly doesn't. It's much more specific about certain areas. Rightly or wrongly, as I said before. It certainly doesn't always tell you what you want to hear, either.

MiddleClassProblem · 21/08/2016 14:30

When I hear the word "mentalist" I think of someone dancing like Bez with glow sticks, covered in face paint, waked out on e, jumping in a pool with their clothes on

WorraLiberty · 21/08/2016 14:38

I suspect far more people do it for attention than a genuine belief, although I do accept some people are deluded.

Anyone who goes pretty much unnoticed either in RL or online, can start throwing out some Barnum statements and instantly become 'popular' due to a ton of 'pick me' dancers, suddenly showing an interest in them both on the thread and via PM.

Other people's curiosity, will keep on feeding their need for attention.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 21/08/2016 14:38

Debbie downer? Have You been playing 'we happy few' my ds plays?

Until this thread I was only aware of the Courtney Barnett song 'Debbie Downer' I wasn't aware it was an actual expression.

TheDMailisacrockofshit · 21/08/2016 14:43

No-one on these sorts of threads ever says what the specific thing the psychic "couldn't possibly have known or guessed" is. Mild bugbear of mine!

I'm amused by the psychic society doing yearly checks though!

venusinscorpio · 21/08/2016 14:44

Perhaps it's personal info that would out them or they don't want to talk about.

TheDMailisacrockofshit · 21/08/2016 14:53

They could say the sort of information though. Otherwise im inclined to think that its that their granny was called Mary or something.

zentastictwo · 21/08/2016 15:44

Right so nobody dispuyes that everyday your body pumps bloods around your body, fights disease, moves your limbs on command, digests food etc but the notion that your body might have any conciousness of the many functions it performs is unbelievable to you? Why wouldn't our bodies have conciousness of what is going on in them? And despite animals reared alone in captivity kniwing how to behave ad animals not bred in captivity, the ideaof a group conciousness is just beyond you? Is that because the male discourse of science and rationality forced upon us several centuries ago (involving the death of many women) in order to remove any power from us has you so institutionalised, that if there isn't a scientific experiment to prove it then it can't be true?!?

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/08/2016 15:47

a full natal astrological chart certainly doesn't. It's much more specific about certain areas. But it's still utter bollocks. I used to do astrology years ago and my mum's best friend was a astrologer. She told me that my exH was utterly perfect for me astrologically, couldn't be more. Note the 'ex'.

Do people really believe that Scorpios like me are affected by a rock that is 5 billion miles from earth and was downgraded to a planetoid? Its radius is 700 miles FFS.

TheDMailisacrockofshit · 21/08/2016 15:57

zentastictwo - so any request for any sort of proof is "institutionalised". How convenient.

Tell you what, any psychics out there wasn't to tell me anything about myself, go ahead. Put it right here on this thread and I will acknowledge if it's correct. I will be a believer!

TheDMailisacrockofshit · 21/08/2016 15:58

MrsTerryPratchett- I've always wondered why its based on birthday- my DC would have a different starsign if they hadn't been premature- surely this should be relevant?!

WorraLiberty · 21/08/2016 16:00

I'm disappointed now Zen

I genuinely thought all that guff you posted, that could apply to almost everyone, was just you playing along Confused

Just when I thought the thread couldn't get any more bat shit.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 21/08/2016 16:01

I agree and was almost certainly presented as 'Does the name Mary mean anything to you?' rather than a straight out statement 'Your grandmother was called Mary' and inviting the response from the sitter.

To the open ended Mary question a sitter could respond with 'Yes, Mary was the name of my first hamster' or 'Mary is my middle name' or yes 'it was my great aunt's name' or my 'Grandfather was a steward on the Queen Mary' or 'My mum died last year and Mary Berry was on the TV' and depending on the response the psychic would spin off in that direction. An educated punt on the right name for the age you are aiming at and there's a good chance they will make meaning from the name Mary.

But if not, they get another shot... 'maybe another name like Maria or May, one of the M names'

If nothing still... 'well the name Mary will be very important in your future.

If the psychics can see the future, read people or commune with the dead why they chuck out these open ended questions that fish for clues that give them so much wriggle room. Why not produce a written statement of facts they've got from the spirit world.

zentastictwo · 21/08/2016 16:02

If you wanted a free readung dmail you only had to ask 😃

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2016 16:04

I thought Zen was "having fun" by making up a reading too! That has to show something, surely?

TheDMailisacrockofshit · 21/08/2016 16:11

I'd love one. How about you tell me what the last book I read was?

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 21/08/2016 16:11

Or my husband's name?

zentastictwo · 21/08/2016 16:14

The reason I'm going, and the reason the OP left. Is that this was a lighthearted thread until certain posters decided the needed punchbags to act as patsys do they could verbally beat them down. Not cool, and not interesting either. I'm out

zentastictwo · 21/08/2016 16:18

Email why would I waste my time and energy on someone who has been rude toe and disreactful to me? Are you actually joking? When I can guarantee you would be rude about whatever I said. Bitch please!

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 21/08/2016 16:18

Or people are asking for proof that you can do what you claim you can do. It seems a bit odd that you can't even answer straightforward questions. Surely if you claim you can see aspects of DM's life you can tell her what the last book she read? You were certainly able to paint a vivid picture of the conflict in my non-existent workplace.

Newes · 21/08/2016 16:19

I am very open to the notions of group, consciousness etc. That doesn't translate to someone knowing more about my future than I do or being a natural conduit to my dead relatives ( who would be more than capable of contacting me themselves, reserving a sharp flick in the ear for some random coercing money or attention out of me by saying they could speak to them)

Newes · 21/08/2016 16:22

It wasn't science and rationality that caused the death of many women, either. It was religion.

TheDMailisacrockofshit · 21/08/2016 16:22

My posts are light-hearted, and none of them are rude. Why is asking you what book I read last disrespectful? You could tell me the author, or the type of book or the front cover (really distinctive) and I would believe that there was something to it.

LunaLoveg00d · 21/08/2016 16:22

Come on then Zentastic, let's see you put your "psychic" abilities to the test under lab conditions and win that $1 million! Up for that challenge? Or maybe not....
