Why can't people use the "watch thread" tool instead?
It's quite annoying.
AIBU?

OP posts:
elderberryflower · 20/08/2016 11:09

Because they're lazy and annoying!!

Funko · 20/08/2016 11:10

Doesn't seem to bloody work from my phone app .....

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 20/08/2016 11:13

It's annoying when it's someone going through a traumatic time and obviously need support, then along come the place markers like they are watching a soap opera.

MadHattersWineParty · 20/08/2016 11:13

Yeah but if you just watch it you miss out on the deletion message if there is one, it just vanishes.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 20/08/2016 11:14

Yeah, it's because the watch thread and bookmarking functions mean you don't know what happens if the thread suddenly disappears. If you've posted on it, you see the deletion message.

motherducker · 20/08/2016 11:23

Oh I see. Well they could at least try and think of something interesting to say.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 20/08/2016 18:34

If the thread disappears it can only be one of two reasons really. Troll or deleted at posters request. Not sure why seeing the deletion message is so important. Bookmark or say something IMO.

There was a thread last week

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2706366-what-is-it-with-the-place-marking-frenzy?

Sparklingbrook · 20/08/2016 18:35

Meant to say Watch and Bookmark.

.

Sparklingbrook · 20/08/2016 20:35

The ideal would be that Watched threads still appeared on the Watch list after deletion I guess.

Would save on all the follow up 'What happened to the thread' threads that usually start when a PBP/troll has been found out and deleted.

Funko · 20/08/2016 20:39

Grin manic

motherducker · 20/08/2016 20:48

You can bookmark without placemarking!

OP posts:
motherducker · 20/08/2016 20:49

*How does it actually annoy you?

Surely you just skip past to the next comment?*

It's boring reading rows and rows of "placemarking" and it also fills up the thread quicker than necessary.

OP posts:
SisterMoonshine · 20/08/2016 20:57

Necessary?
Should threads just be efficient then?

i hardly do it myself, but I like the place marking posts.

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/08/2016 21:02

Ooh I've upset you a few times then! Didn't realise it was an annoying thing to do...
Sometimes I find a thread really informative but have nothing useful to add, so I place mark.

RainyDaisy · 20/08/2016 21:26

Place marking (never, ever done it before.....but kind of felt I needed to)

Nanny0gg · 20/08/2016 21:28

I agree OP.

You can Bookmark and you can Watch.

How difficult is it?

ProseccoBitch · 20/08/2016 21:28

I'm with you OP.

The rows of placemarking tend to happen on threads where people just want to know what happens at the end. Husbands going missing, long running parking threads, that sort of stuff.

It just fills the thread up to 1000 quicker.
