Unreasonable curry disgrace

Blinking flip. I'm visiting my parents. They live in a town in the north of England. Takeaway curry required as its Friday.

AIBU to think that the vegetarian curry shouldn't contain Brussel sprouts. And it was bland. Yuk.

Any other disgusting curry ingredients?

Well I live in the north of England and we have access to amazing veg curries, but then I am ten miles from Bradford. A veg curry isn't just a veg curry, it's a Tarka Dahl, Aloo Palak, Saag Paneer. I do only get takeaway curry from restaurants though.

Maybe try somewhere else?

StealthPolarBear · 20/08/2016 07:51

I've had a thali from Aagrah. It was nice bit I don't like okra
Curried is the best way to eat cauliflower. As a vegetable on its own it's bland.

YvaineStormhold · 20/08/2016 07:51

Sprout curry?

But...the farts. Tie your roof duvet down.

cexuwaleozbu · 20/08/2016 07:57

Longstanding vegetarian and curry lover here. Never ever order the "vegetable" curry from any takeaway. The range of potential vegetables is too hit and miss. Go to the "side dishes" section of the menu and there will be dishes of specific named vegetable where you can choose your favourites. (Aubergine is the best. Usually called Brinjal Bhaji - nothing like an onion bhaji though, it will basically be a simple curry)

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 20/08/2016 08:00

Adore sprouts - my favourite green veg. Frozen sprouts are an abomination though.

1frenchfoodie · 20/08/2016 08:01

I still remember going to a friend's house when a kid and having crab stick curry with sauce from a packet. Bad, so very very bad. Could only have been made worse by brussels sprouts Smile

Hrafnkel · 20/08/2016 08:07

I think I can beat this.

I had pasta curry once, free from a Hare Krishna centre in London.

Iirc, there was some kind of sprout side dish.

Ifailed · 20/08/2016 08:08

if you could buy them now, fresh & from the UK I'd love some and eat them right away for breakfast. But as a random veg in a curry - no thanks.

Tiredbutfuckingfine · 20/08/2016 08:09

Veg curries from type of meat-based restaurant are always pretty grim and ususally feature crap frozen veg, though sprouts are a new low. I go for Dhansak, that way at least the sauce is lentil based and slightly filling with rice and I can abandon the "veg".
Although once mine came with a lot of tinned pineapple in.

FallenStar3 · 20/08/2016 08:13

I worked in an Indian never seen Brussels sprouts in a curry, however cauliflower yes. Very odd combination can't see how they would enhance a curryConfused

monkeysox · 20/08/2016 08:17

Catnip. Bradford isn't that Northern! (although good for curry)
Agree south sheilds -there were loads of curry places all on the same road.

Op you need to order aloo chaat. Delicious.
Sprouts in a curry. Wrong. Yanbu

Myfirstbornisacollie · 20/08/2016 08:19

I love a vegetarian curry although the ones I choose are usually chickpea or lentil based rather than containing vegetables.

I vividly remember having tea at my BF house as a teen and finding raisins and apple in the curry. It was bad, I had to swallow them without chewing, not wanting to offend his mum!

NoahVale · 20/08/2016 08:19

i havent read thread

but i cant believe there are sprouts around in August.
are you sure they arent some exotic indian vegetable?

sashh · 20/08/2016 08:20

I'm not vegi but do like the occasional vegi curry - IMHO Bengali owners make the best vegi curries.

Gothgirl78 · 20/08/2016 08:38

North vale . I think the vegetables were frozen. The carrots were the small baton types.

The paneer was good. I usually get takeaways from restaurants and stick to the chick pea or Dahl side dishes but I fancied a hot curry.

I'll make my own curry tonight I think. Chick pea vindaloo.

bleurgh to frozen sprouts op

MermaidTears · 20/08/2016 09:03

I'm veggie, I have vegetarian dhansak, mostly lentils, potato, onions, mushroom, carrot, peppers, chili & green beans. Absolutely mouth watering. I'm in Essex.

Also agree with pp, India, especially Goa is like a veggie curry lovers dreamland! They are mostly vegetarian there, so there is loads to eat!

Destinysdaughter · 20/08/2016 09:05

Gordon Ramsey did a tv show about India. They had chutney made from ants!

Yuk

seaweedhead · 20/08/2016 09:21

I've ordered a paneer dish before only to find that the paneer has been substituted with burger cheese slices! This has happened to me twice. Now that's a curry disappointment Sad

MiddleClassProblem · 20/08/2016 09:28

I've eaten ants before. Honestly, I'll eat anything

whattheseithakasmean · 20/08/2016 09:29

Gordon Ramsay knows fuck all about vegetarian food - he conforms to every Glaswegian male stereotype. Rick Stein did a great tour of India - vast swathes are entirely vegetarian.

Elledouble · 20/08/2016 09:32

BURGER CHEESE instead of delicious paneer?! That is an abomination, both in terms of taste and morals. They deserve to be shut down.

SuburbanRhonda · 20/08/2016 09:39

I'm not surprised about the burger cheese.

I've seen recipes that say you can replace paneer with halloumi. Sure, if you want your entire day's salt allowance in one mouthful.

blueturtle6 · 20/08/2016 09:53

I'm doing homemade curry tonight, if only if known I'd have put the sprouts in to marinade yesterday Hmm.
Best curries I've had are veggie ones in india, but I stick to meat over here, they just don't do it as good

Hoppinggreen · 20/08/2016 09:56

Should have stopped in West Yorkshire on the way up, no shortage of a good curry here
