Unreasonable curry disgrace

Blinking flip. I'm visiting my parents. They live in a town in the north of England. Takeaway curry required as its Friday.

AIBU to think that the vegetarian curry shouldn't contain Brussel sprouts. And it was bland. Yuk.

Any other disgusting curry ingredients?

My 3yo loves sprouts. I have some in my fridge Grin

I love a vegetable curry and I'm a big fan of the 'side' dishes, but the mixed veg curry always upsets me. Mainly because they bulk it out with sweet potato at my local curry house and I don't like sweet potato .

MostlyHet · 19/08/2016 23:38

Invites self round to LifeinJeneral's house in solidarity (and in the hope of a good sprout curry).

Fortitudine · 19/08/2016 23:40

I grew up in Bradford and the veggie curries there are lovely - when I lived abroad I really missed bindi curry and paneer curry. But I can honestly say I've never come across a sprout in a curry!

FoxesOnSocks · 19/08/2016 23:41

Poltergeist Curry is a bit of a disaster I'd say Faster Grin

Love sprouts in all dishes. Once had sprout and sausage curry for 3 days because we only had sprouts, sausages and curry sauce. Had escaped a volatile and extremely abusive home to start our own. It could have been lobster and Dom Perignon, genuinely too happy and stress free to notice Smile

MsVestibule · 19/08/2016 23:42

mostlyhet you can join our Sprout Support Group if you like.

MargotLovedTom · 19/08/2016 23:43

Can you imagine the farts the next day?!

Shizzlestix · 19/08/2016 23:44

Never had sprouts on my hundreds of north east curries. Weird. My DH once put swede in curry. I was nearly sick, what was he thinking?!

MsVestibule · 19/08/2016 23:44

admiraldata, you too! This is more like a Sprout Party now.

AnotherPrickInTheWall · 19/08/2016 23:44

Sprout curry is a popular side dish amongst British Indians. The sprouts are sliced and cooked with various spices to make a dryish curry.
Not all Indian food is particularly spicy; our palates are used to restaurant style food. Home cooking is often subtlety flavoured.

ALemonyPea · 19/08/2016 23:46

You have a curry in Mackem land, what do you expect? Everyone ones the better curries are in Newcastle, where us proper people live. Wink

Gothgirl78 · 19/08/2016 23:51

Alrmoneypea. . True. Newcastle is a far superior city to Sunderland.

We've got a better football team though.

Ha'way man! Sprouts are the devil's bogeys, just wrong in a curry. As a pp said, get yersel' to South Shields and you'll have about 20 curry houses on one street to choose from. I would give you the name of my local Indian in town but I don't want to out myself. They do deliver to Sunderland though, and there are no sprouts in veggie dishes! Smile

AdmiralData · 19/08/2016 23:56

A curry is more than just a bowl of chunky orange soup though. Consider your sundries and side dishes. Which proteins, vegetables and spices? It's a complex subject.

Boogers · 19/08/2016 23:57

Ahem, how's it looking in the Championship? Grin

(H and DS are Sunderland season ticket holders)

zen1 · 19/08/2016 23:58

Our local does a tasty aubergine curry.

ALemonyPea · 19/08/2016 23:59

Oh I'll not disagree with you, Newcastle are a shite football team.

Wincarnis · 20/08/2016 00:05

My former local curry house (in West Yorkshire) used to serve a 'Malaysian Curry' - a medium chicken curry with a tin of fruit cocktail thrown in. Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 20/08/2016 00:15

Maraschino cherry and all?

Blu · 20/08/2016 00:22

AnotherPrick, I could see how sliced fresh sprouts could do in one of those dry green curries with a bitter flavour.
But that sounds different from the concoction in the OPs takeaway.
You don't get Kerala (which is bitter like sprouts, but more so) in many high st places.

takesnoprisoners · 20/08/2016 07:05

There is a sprouts side that some Indian folks make. I think southern cuisine? That was scrummy and I could not get enough of it! The standard restaurant fare does nothing compared to the veggie dishes available in Indian homes.

IJustLostTheGame · 20/08/2016 07:33

You all need to go to Aagrah in Leeds and have a vegetable thali.
Their dhaal is my favourite

FeckinCrutches · 20/08/2016 07:43

There was a big rave at Penshaw last night, gutted I missed it!!

cdtaylornats · 20/08/2016 07:45

While most of India is vegetarian, the vast number of Indian Restaurants are really Bangladeshi.

SocksRock · 20/08/2016 07:48

I was served a mackerel curry once. Complete with all the bones (all 7,933 of them). This was a home cooked meal by my flat mate.

17 years later, it still ranks as the worst meal of my life, we ended up with Dominos. Crunchy, fishy curry
