Wibu to have scratched this car?

user1471432527 · 17/08/2016 17:00

Taking dtwins out in our double stroller, cars parked right on the pavement , can't walk on the road, too much traffic. Was I unreasonable to force my pram though, scratching one of the bigger cars in the process?

OP posts:
stitchglitched · 17/08/2016 19:46

No, she did it because she had to squeeze past the car. Would you have had her walk into traffic?

takemetomars · 17/08/2016 19:47

January87 - I was parked legally thank you (not on the pavement) Who is the twat now and rude to boot??
Oh, and ODFOD

Lilmisskittykat · 17/08/2016 19:47

Would you rather all car users didn't bump up two wheels on a pavement? Then you could post about drivers being twats when the emergency services can't get to your house

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 17/08/2016 19:48

I quote op... Big Range Rover ... No conjecture

And all range rovers cost £35k?

Every day's a school day! Grin

Btw, I don't think OP's coming back.

Think 35k plus is a fair guess of price. If you wanna know exact price I'm guessing Google would be a good start

Bugger me, you could get a 3 bedroom house round these parts for that kind of cash. Shock

Beeeeee · 17/08/2016 19:56

Absolutely disgraceful - why would you damage a car for gods sake!

Trixieceratops · 17/08/2016 19:57

"Bet all those of you that think it's ok to commit criminal damage on a 35k plus vehicle don't drive or cannot afford a nice car."

Jesus. You are making me want to go out a key a Porsche.

Newes · 17/08/2016 19:59

Only an inconsiderately parked one, Trixie

TheGruffaloMother · 17/08/2016 20:02

No, two wrongs don't make a right, but they do occasionally make a point.

These are people that get forced into the road so that they don't damage poorly parked cars. On some roads this is safer than others but it's never safer to have to go in the road than it is to stay on the pavement.

And seriously, if your car is really expensive, a work vehicle, a rental or you'd just get upset that it had a scratch, park it so that people who can reasonably expect to be able to use the pavement can get past. It's really not hard. I've been driving 10 years and have never blocked a pavement. I've barely even had to put effort into making sure I didn't.

CafeCremeMerci · 17/08/2016 20:05

We have to park half on the pavement, if we don't anything bigger than a standard car can't get through. No deliveries and more importantly, no emergency vehicles.

We cannot 'park somewhere else' as it's a development and the entire place is the same and the main road you enter it from is a major A road - no parking.

I park as considerately as I can, you can easily fit a massive pram or wheelchair through and with care a double buggy.

I don't see why this makes me inconsiderate, a bitch or any other of the names 'I've' been called on this thread.

I've had to cross the road/walk in the road/go back to find a dropped curb etc instead of scratching someone's car, lots of times in places where they could have parked on the road. I do it because I'm not a nasty vindictive bitch who takes pleasure in damaging other people's property - not because I'm some kind of Saint.

AvengeTheDoc · 17/08/2016 20:07

Trixie I live by a garage that fixes exotic cars (which is strange as it's unlikely anyone in this area could afford one) and they and they are always parking the cars randomly around the industrial estate, whilst not illegal parking it's definitely annoying and inconsiderate to the other shops and their customers.maybe we can go out as a group and get some anger out!

  • purposefully damaging cars is disgraceful, but criminal damage is criminal damage, no matter the price of the item, plus most don't tend to have crap cars out of choice, so relatively speaking damaging a cheaper car could have worse consequences for those that have cheaper cars
TheGreenKnight · 17/08/2016 20:08

User it's ok to be pissed off and even if you want to be arsey leave a note saying it's not ok to park like that as it blocks the path but you can't just vandalise somebodies property because you were annoyed, that's awful. YABU,it doesn't matter if they were parked inconsiderately. I'm sure you could have waited until the traffic calmed down and crossed if you really needed to

I agree ^^^

kali110 · 17/08/2016 20:12

thegreen yes. The op isn't even remorseful, seems to be gloating.

TaylorSwiftMakesMyShitItch · 17/08/2016 20:14

Of course ywbu. And yw also b a bit of a dick. Would it have been that hard to go backwards a bit and find a safe place to cross, rather than causing potentially very expensive damage to a car? Range rover or not (you say that as if it being a range rover makes your vile behaviour ok), there really is no need to be so shitty. HTH.

NeedAnotherGlass · 17/08/2016 20:16

On the street I love on we HAVE to park on the pavement to make the road wide enough for emergency vehicles to get through. If you scratchet my car I be so furious, how entitled can ne person be?!?!?
You don't HAVE to park on the pavement. You choose to because it's more convenient than parking further away.
I would only scratch your car if you didn't leave enough room for me to get through.
Funny how you think you are entitled to park on the pavement!

Bet all those of you that think it's ok to commit criminal damage on a 35k plus vehicle don't drive or cannot afford a nice car.
If you valued your car then you wouldn't park it on the pavement.
You wouldn't park it where it was blocking the way for cars, why is it any better to park it in the way of people?

OP, YANBU. I have not a shred of sympathy for the selfish fuckers who park their cars on the pavement. There is no excuse for it. Nonsense about people stopping to puke!
I have barged past cars with my double buggy. I will not put myself or my children at risk by walking into the road.

happypoobum · 17/08/2016 20:16

I was a wheelchairuser for several months a few years ago, and it really opened my eyes to how difficult it is to get around safely due to the selfish way some utter bastards park.

So many times I would come across cars who had parked so far onto the pavement that there was barely room for a person without a wheelchair to get through, let alone poor me.

I probably did scratch a few cars during that time, but they really deserved it because they deliberately parked leaving a tiny sliver of pavement available.

Finelytuned · 17/08/2016 20:16

Whilst I can understand your frustration OP, deliberately scratching someone's car is a very unpleasant thing to do and you are lucky you weren't caught.

MerchantofVenice · 17/08/2016 20:19

Why are so many posters unable to read the OP? She scratched the car 'in the process' of struggling to get through. Therefore it wasn't deliberate. All these people braying about criminal damage and vandalism are being absurd.

Am also shocked at the sheer nastiness directed at the poster who wrote in detail about the struggles she faced with her late husband's wheelchair. She was right - some people appear to have an empathy bypass when they log onto MN.

Bottom line is whatever the reason the car is blocking the pavement, it's still only a car. If the driver is busy administering life-saving treatment nearby and didn't have time to park properly - well, the car is not likely to be high up on the list of priorities then. By contrast, forcing someone out into the road could cause a fatal accident.

A little scratch on a car, done accidentally in a tricky situation, is not worthy of the hand-wringing we've seen on here. Jeez.

MammaTJ · 17/08/2016 20:19

OP, I think you have fallen into the trap of thinking this is Mumsnet, so we all have children, so will automatically side with you because not only do you have one, you have two.

Well, yes, most of us do have children, but most of us have cars too and get that it costs many more hours work to pay for the repairs for the damage you have caused than it would effort for you to walk by without causing the damage!

You know, some places are hard to park reasonably. You have no clue what difficulties the person already has.

Well done, you win the prize for the most dickish boast of MN today!

DioneTheDiabolist · 17/08/2016 20:20

Risk hurting a car's paint job or risk the life of DC/ wheelchair user/ self. Of course YWNBU OP.

Houseconfusion · 17/08/2016 20:24

Welcome to mumsnet OP.

Ashhead24 · 17/08/2016 20:26

My DM was on her way to a fair at the community centre in her wheelchair. The pavement ends at the community centre so there was no going around. Idiots were parked all the way on the pavement as they couldn't possibly park in the car park 5 mins away, so she was half up on the bank trying to go around them. She tipped into one of the cars and got stuck. Fortunately the community police were there with a stall and came and helped her and put out a tanoy for people to move their cars. No one did. It's the only time she's been out by herself in probably three years, and she doesn't have the confidence to go again as the pavements are too difficult to navigate.

So no, Yanbu, people blocking pavements deserve some consequences for their complete disregard of why the pavements are there. My DM was too flustered to notice if she dented the car, but I really hope she put a big dent in it.
