Wibu to have scratched this car?

Taking dtwins out in our double stroller, cars parked right on the pavement , can't walk on the road, too much traffic. Was I unreasonable to force my pram though, scratching one of the bigger cars in the process?

YANBU. At all. No way should you have to step out in to a busy road because someone has blocked the pavement. Boo hoo, someone's precious inanimate object got damaged because they were completely thoughtless.

Gottagetmoving · 17/08/2016 19:17

I suppose you would expect a blind person to go onto the road too rather than a car be parked properly?

Lunar1 · 17/08/2016 19:18

Is that aimed at me Avenge?

AvengeTheDoc · 17/08/2016 19:20

If you think the shoe fits Lunar... I just think it's a shitty thing to do, turn what people are saying into other things in different situations

DoloresVanCartier · 17/08/2016 19:20

You did it deliberately, that is an act of vandalism. Doesn't matter if they have parked like twats, you deliberately damaged the property of another YABU

BennyTheBall · 17/08/2016 19:26

Yes, of course you were wrong. Inconsiderate parking is really annoying, but vandalising a car is never going to be the right thing to do.

stitchglitched · 17/08/2016 19:29

Those saying the OP was wrong, what should she have done instead? Walked into traffic?

Lunar1 · 17/08/2016 19:30

It's not different though is it. Every pedestrian has the right to use the footpath without obstruction. Pointing out that there are many reasons why people can't just walk out into the road is not shitty, it's a fact. The pavement should not be blocked.

The op didn't scratch the car on purpos, it was the least bad option given to her by the car owner. Saying she was in the wrong is shitty.

Making passive aggressive comments in general when what you actually meant to do was single out my posts is shitty, say what you mean next time, I really don't care. Due to my personal experiences the use of public footpaths is something I am passionate about.

I don't need to be passive aggressive about it. Anyone condoning blocking the footpath to park their car is bloody selfish. There is no way the op or anyone should have to step out into traffic unnecessarily.

I can cope with someone with an empathy bypass thinking I'm shitty!

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 17/08/2016 19:30

FFS don't posters get tired yourself of using emotionally manipulative language?

I quite agree. All this talk of having to park badly in order to puke/have chemo etc, and references to the OP "purposely vandalising" cars, "committing offences/crimes" etc.

The OP never said she scratched the car on purpose.

cexuwaleozbu · 17/08/2016 19:32

Someone does something that is annoying and possibly (depending on local byelaws) illegal.

Is OP being unreasonable to steal £500 pounds from them and burn it, as a punishment?

If that sounds unreasonable, and seems to be vigilante justice which civilised people should avoid because the rule of law is better - then yes OP YWBU.

ohtheholidays · 17/08/2016 19:33

Pavements are for people not for selfish arseholes cars!

They parked on the path what else can they expect!

I'm in a wheelchair OP and we have 5DC and 2 of our DC are disabled selfish gits parking on the path gain no sympathy from me!

My DH's never parked on the path,we have a bigger vehicle because there's 7 of us,we don't have a drive if we can manage I can't see why others can't be more thoughtful.

MoonHare · 17/08/2016 19:34

Maybe I missed a post but the op doesn't say she did it on purpose she just continued her journey on the footpath and the scratch happened in the process. Not unreasonable. Coming on here to ask aibu? Pointless.

Lilmisskittykat · 17/08/2016 19:36

Bet all those of you that think it's ok to commit criminal damage on a 35k plus vehicle don't drive or cannot afford a nice car.

the world would be much nicer without people deciding to teach drivers a lesson because due to congestion are forced to park on a pavement.

I lose faith in human kind reading posts like this...

AvengeTheDoc · 17/08/2016 19:37

I agree it is shitty and passive aggressive, and that's why I asked MN to delete it as I also believe it contravenes talk guidelines FWIW I don't think I had an empathy bypass in this situation I said this:

I agree that the person shouldn't have parked on the path, but I think dishing out your own punishment for something that in many places it seems isn't illegal is wrong. Accidentally doing it isn't great but understandable, but purposefully is being as much as of an idiot as them (if not more).

Don't see my empathy bypass

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 17/08/2016 19:37

OP doesn't appear to have come back to the thread since page 1.

I do hope she's off keying some badly parked cars with the legend don't park like a cunt. Grin

Lunar1 · 17/08/2016 19:38

I lose faith in human kind reading that people value expensive cars over a persons safety.

I've just got to check though, would it be ok in your mind to scratch a cheap car?

Lilmisskittykat · 17/08/2016 19:39

Criminal damage is criminal damage you work it out...

WyfOfBathe · 17/08/2016 19:40

If you tried to squeeze past and accidentally scratched the car, then YABU for not leaving a note with your details.

If you could have avoided the scratch but did it anyway, then YAB completely U - we don't need vigilantes taking the law into their own hands.

Lunar1 · 17/08/2016 19:41

I guess I should add that our car is worth well over your 35k barrier, it's not scratched though as we don't park like a cunt!

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 17/08/2016 19:42

Bet all those of you that think it's ok to commit criminal damage on a 35k plus vehicle don't drive or cannot afford a nice car.

If you think that's bad, you should hear what I'd like to do to cyclists who force pedestrians to jump out of the way as they hurdle past on the pavements... Grin

As to your points, there is no "criminal damage". The OP never said she scratched the car on puprose.

As for the £35k car, I don't believe OP mentioned the value of the car. Conjecture much?

the world would be much nicer without people deciding to teach drivers a lesson because due to congestion are forced to park on a pavement.

Aww, diddums. Is that the sound of the world's teeniest violin?

Nobody is "forced" to park on the pavement. If you can't safely park your car without blocking the pavement for pedestrians, then it's time to 1) park elsewhere or 2) leave car at home.

Lilmisskittykat · 17/08/2016 19:43

Ha ha whatever!

kali110 · 17/08/2016 19:44

You did it on purpose because you were angry.
i hope there's cctv in the area.

Lilmisskittykat · 17/08/2016 19:46

I quote op... Big Range Rover ... No conjecture

MeAndMy3LovelyBoys · 17/08/2016 19:46

People really think wheelchair users and pushchairs should cross with no crossing to protect some tossers car? Human being trumps twats car every time.

This with the loudest, shiniest fucking bells on^
