Wibu to have scratched this car?

Taking dtwins out in our double stroller, cars parked right on the pavement , can't walk on the road, too much traffic. Was I unreasonable to force my pram though, scratching one of the bigger cars in the process?

Both parties were wrong. The car owner for blocking the pavement, and the op for scratching the car.

I'm just wondering, if one had to choose which was more morally wrong, which it would be?

NeedAnotherGlass · 18/08/2016 20:42

Whatever the rights and wrongs, car drivers have to accept that if they park blocking the pavement, there is a good chance that their car will get scratched by a passing pedestrian, and they could get fined for parking on the pavement.
If the car gets scratched by a wheelchair or pushchair, there is not a chance that the pedestrian would get prosecuted.

WaitrosePigeon · 18/08/2016 20:56

It's not just huge cars that are selfish. Small cars do it too.

Dragongirl10 · 18/08/2016 21:09

YABU...and ignorant to show off about it on here.

maninawomansworld01 · 18/08/2016 21:20

Err... Unless you are in London then it may surprise you to know that parking on the pavement is PERFECTLY LEGAL unless the local council have specifically forbidden it and erected signage to this effect!

It is quite inconsiderate but nevertheless , legal. You OP on the other hand have committed criminal damage.
Very poor example to set for your kids!

NeedAnotherGlass · 18/08/2016 21:57

You OP on the other hand have committed criminal damage.
There is absolutely no chance of her ever being prosecuted, and the Police would tell the car driver that they shouldn't have parked in such a stupid manner anyway.

WRONG
Completely arse about face!
It is ILLEGAL to park on the pavement unless the local council have specifically allowed it and erected signage to this effect.

This happens a lot round here, cars blocking the pavement. I have quite possibly caused scratches trying to squeeze my pram past and could not care less. Rather that than pushing my baby into a busy road because people are selfish pricks.

DesolateWaist · 18/08/2016 22:20

Need

I quote from the article you link to:
A pavement parking ban has been in force in London since 1974 but outside the capital, mounting the kerb is generally allowed apart from where vehicles are causing an obstruction, or on roads with other restrictions such as double-yellow lines. Local authorities can use existing Traffic Regulation Orders to ban pavement parking on certain roads.

Outside the capital mounting the pavement IS allowed.

I'm not saying for one moment it's right mind you.

NeedAnotherGlass · 18/08/2016 23:03

mounting the kerb is generally allowed apart from where vehicles are causing an obstruction
Mounting the kerb is very different to parking on the pavement.
And you are still not allowed to cause an obstruction!
If a car has just mounted the kerb, the pavement would still be passable.

jellybeans · 19/08/2016 00:09

Yanbu. I am a fellow twin mum and used to get fed up of having to take precious babies into road into blind bends because some selfish bugger parked selfishly.

I never park on pavements unless leaving space to get double pram through. Also what about people in mobility scooters.

If it gets scratched so be it.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 19/08/2016 00:09

Have lost my original post. Just wanted to state again that what you did was thoroughly nasty and totally unnecessary. Hope you get a taste of your own medicine soon.

jellybeans · 19/08/2016 00:21

Some very selfish people on this thread.

Stunned at Toga's post.

The OP has privacy concerns, and so we've agreed to take this down now.

Pemba · 19/08/2016 01:24

I am not surprised the OP didn't come back. So much entitled pro-driver twatishness on this thread. Quite an eye-opener.

TheSultanofPingu · 19/08/2016 07:29

I agree Pemba
Pedestrians just want to get from A to B safely without having to manoeuvre around cars which are blocking the pavement.
Most of the time there is absolutely no need for the car to be parked the way it is.
Why do some people have such difficulty considering others. Some of the comments on here have been really depressing to read.

SeraOfeliaFalfurrias · 19/08/2016 09:01

Those of you saying what the OP did was worse, do you really consider cosmetic damage to an inanimate object worse than the risk of injury and death to infant humans? Really? Hmm

NeedAnotherGlass · 19/08/2016 09:29

DelicatePreciousThing1 It's the selfish drivers who park on the pavement who get a taste of their own medicine when their car gets scratched.
Action would never be taken against the pedestrian in those circumstances.

Alleycat1 · 19/08/2016 09:47

Police won't even turn out to burglaries these days, so a scratched car is really not going to be on their list of priorities.
