Wibu to have scratched this car?

Taking dtwins out in our double stroller, cars parked right on the pavement , can't walk on the road, too much traffic. Was I unreasonable to force my pram though, scratching one of the bigger cars in the process?

People really think wheelchair users and pushchairs should cross with no crossing to protect some tossers car? Human being trumps twats car every time.

I scratched a couple with my first husbands wheelchair.

Unlike a buggy/pram, which can be bumped down a 4" kerb, if necessary, a wheelchair can''t.

If a car is blocking a pavement - or dropped kerb - it can add quite a distance to a journey (I've clocked an additional 1Km as a record for MrsLH).

Cinnamon12345 · 17/08/2016 17:13

I would say the scratching was an accident as the car was parked where it shouldn't be causing an obstruction. It is entirely unreasonable to expect people wether they have a pushchair or not to have to go into the road to pass a car.

Nope, they wont park like a twat again!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/08/2016 17:14

Really? Hmm You feel the need to question whether you should have scratched someone's car?

Yes, they shouldn't have parked on the pavement (I believe that is illegal) but you can't scratch someone's car. No.

YorkieDorkie · 17/08/2016 17:14

Totally unreasonable OP. If I knew a person who had done this I'd report them to the police. Hundreds of pounds of damage just for parking on a pavement. They're in the wrong but it's hardly a punishment to fit the crime is it.

Naoko · 17/08/2016 17:15

You know how they say two wrongs don't make a right? This. This is exactly what that means.

AmandaIsHere · 17/08/2016 17:15

SusannahL · 17/08/2016 17:16

A lot of people don't seem to realise that it's actually illegal to park on pavements.

Of course what you did was wrong op but with any luck the prat will not park there again!

I honestly think in your situation, I would have been tempted to do the same.

BlossomHillOne · 17/08/2016 17:17

Unless you are in London then you are being unreasonable.

www.drivingtesttips.biz/parking-on-pavement.html

The driver whilst inconsiderate probably hasn't done anything wrong - you on the other hand have caused criminal damage.

Lottielou7 · 17/08/2016 17:17

They are wrong, but so were you.

originalmavis · 17/08/2016 17:17

So who has priority between a twin pram and a wheelchair? Would a wheelchair user be entitled to slash they tyres on one of these huge prams if one was blocking the pavement?

Deliberate scratching is a sucky thing to do. It's criminal damage. What if someone whipped out their phone and passed the footage into the police? I dont think they'd take it very lightly.

takemetomars · 17/08/2016 17:18

I had my mini keyed along the passenger side, every. single. panel. Cost £1800. Had to claim, so cost me the excess and because this was a 2nd claim within 18 months (first was a claim for a 15 year old who smashed into my drivers side whilst cycling on the pavement, Mum would not engage with my insurance company, 1500 quid cost with me paying excess) my insurance at renewal cost me £200 more than the last time I renewed. So yes, YABU. This is not a victemless crime

Friolero · 17/08/2016 17:19

I totally sympathise OP - I have a large SN pushchair (and previously a double buggy) and get very irritated when people park so far up on the pavement that I can't get past. The road I walk down to DS's school is like this, and it's often hard to cross safely because there's so much traffic and you can't see past the parked cars easily to see when there's a gap. That said, I don't think I'd force the buggy through and scratch the cars (although am often tempted).

I don't understand the poster saying the cars aren't doing anything wrong - the pavement is for pedestrians, it's not a car park. Even if pavement parking is tolerated by the council (i.e. they won't enforce) cars should leave enough space for wheelchairs and pushchairs to get past. What are they supposed to do otherwise - walk down the middle of the road?

MissClarke86 · 17/08/2016 17:19

There's a difference between parking with enough space for a pedestrian/single buggy/wheelchair and parking with enough space for a double buggy - they are far less common and rightly or wrongly this wouldn't pop up on my radar of conscience when parking.

YABU

Hockeydude · 17/08/2016 17:19

OP - person who parked on pavement clearly in the wrong.

Unfortunately you made yourself into a criminal because you deliberately and knowingly damaged somebody's property.

AnotherUsernameBitesTheDust · 17/08/2016 17:19

I've do one it before and I'd bloody well do it again. It really boils my piss when people park on the pavement. If they park illegally and I can't get through without scratching their car then fuck them.

Good job my twins are well passed the pushchair stage. I do bend wing mirrors when I have to push past.

I also get the urge to walk over the top of cars instead of squeezing round them. And also sit down in the middle of the road with a picnic, because if they can park in my space why can't I park my arse in theirs?

PersianCatLady · 17/08/2016 17:20

I can understand why you did this, it pisses me off to not be able to use the pavement because people have parked on it.

However I think that YWBU and you may find that if they find CCTV of you scratching the car and the owner wants to pursue matters you could possibly be getting a visit from the police with regards to the damage.

frankie001 · 17/08/2016 17:21

Before I even read op you abu.

Reading op you abu.

ComedyBoobs · 17/08/2016 17:22

Maybe they were parking in the pavement to leave enough space on the road for emergency vehicles??

ghostyslovesheep · 17/08/2016 17:22

Psst it's CHINNY RECKON

originalmavis · 17/08/2016 17:23

So when mini cabs take up all the (aid for) residents places I can take a key to them then? Or let down the tyres of bikes chained to my railings? They shouldn't be there, so that's ok then.

When did people start getting so Millie Tant? God, I haven't the energy...
