AIBU to think that if a private seller advertises a car ..........

that the sale price should be the same as the price "WEBUYANYCAR.COM" offers????????

Just seen a car for sale on my street for £2500. Put registration into webuyanycar.com and it's saying it will give me £1,080 for it!!!!!!!!

So how come the owner is asking for £2500?

I don't get it.

Erm ..... because the private seller can ask what they like. It's up to a purchaser to pay what they want too.

People sell to places like webuyanycar.com for convenience or because no one they've come across wants to buy their car. Not becuase it gives the better price. Websites like that are last resort.

WBAC won't pay that anyway, as soon as they see the car they knock loads off for scratches.

but yes - they are a business to make profit and they do that by buying cheap.

I was offered £150 for my Audi A4 a couple of years ago.
Under 90k miles, 9 years old. Very good condition. Sold for £875 private.
Unless you desperately need to sell to make the rent or leave the country, I'd give we buy any car a wide berth...

Because 'we buy any car' take a cut. They don't give you market value.
You sell to them for convenience.

It's a bit like CEX will buy a game or DVD for £7 but sell for £12.

Why should the private seller sell it at the same as the 'we buy any car' price? You as the buyer couldn't buy it from them for that.

Errr because it's the same as if you part ex your car or sell it to a dealer, they give you a lower amount so they can profit when they sell on. If you sell private, you cut out the middle man and get more! Smile

No, of course not. Even we buy any car have started advertising that you'll probably get more if you sell it private, their selling point is that it's an easy and hassle free way to sell

We buy any car, will sell the vehicle on at a higher price. They pay cheaper prices so they can make money selling it on.

If you bought the car from we buy any car, you wouldn't get it for the price they would pay for it.

WeBuyAnyCar always offers someway under the true market rate that you'd get if you sold direct to a retail buyer but this is compensated for by the convenience for the seller of selling instantly and not having to advertise/haggle etc.

You can't go straight to WBAC and offer them that price for a car, so if you were a potential buyer then it's neither here nor there. The comparison you should be making is with other similar cars advertised on Autotrader etc.

A buyer would need to pay more than the we buy any car price because, generally, cars aren't available for sale at that price, they're going to sell them on at a profit

We buy any car will give the seller ~£1k for the car, but then I assume they will sell it on for nearer the £2.5k.

Because an average 'man in the street' buyer can't buy it for the We Buy Any Car price can they?

Fwiw, I've sold 2 cars through wbac.com and found them to be very fair re what they knock of for damage etc

We buy any car is like the vehicle equivalent of those companies that offer to buy your home for cash rather than putting it on the market yourself. They always pay less than market value for convenience and a quick guaranteed sale.

So £1080 is the figure they are willing to pay, not what the car is worth.
