that the sale price should be the same as the price "WEBUYANYCAR.COM" offers????????

Just seen a car for sale on my street for £2500. Put registration into webuyanycar.com and it's saying it will give me £1,080 for it!!!!!!!!

So how come the owner is asking for £2500?

I don't get it.

I'm not sure you understand how a market economy works.

This to me is like saying that a private seller selling a mobile phone or something should take 100 quid despite it being worth 300, because 100 is what cash converters offers...these companies buy low and sell high. I would expect a private seller to be expecting more than they can get off companies like this?

davos · 14/08/2016 19:59

If you part exchange your car when buying a new one at a dealer , you get less than you would selling the car privately. Because the dealer will sell it on or send to auction and want to make at least something.

Wbac are like the dealer, but without selling you a car. They make twice money selling the cars on. They won't pay the cars full value.

DesolateWaist · 14/08/2016 19:59

Exactly like a car dealership but online, yes.

OK. So if webuyanycar are offering 1,080 and the seller wants 2,500 - then what is an acceptable compromise? What should I offer?

Webuyanycar valued my car at £900 - less than 30% of what my insurance company thinks my cat is worth.

Do you think I could go out and buy my car for £900? Not a bloody chance. Most sellers/dealers are £2000+

They are there for of you want to sell quickly.

Diglet · 14/08/2016 20:05

Look at what similar cars are advertised for online and what they have actually sold for. Also look what dealers are selling similar cars for.

The 'WeBuyAnyCar' price may not be accurate -what they say they will pay and what they actually pay aren't always the same.

OpenMe · 14/08/2016 20:05

I'd actually say that 2500 is a fair price in that situation but it depends how quickly they need to sell. Try 2000 and see what happens

Am well educated and quite intelligent thanks - just didn't know what webuyanycar was that's all.

Not knowing something isn't the same as not being intelligent.

Thanks for those of you who explained nicely.

I've just agreed -to part- ex mine. The garage offered me x price. I looked on line at the same model with similar mileage, specification to figure out if I thought it was a fair price. Also spoke to a friend in the trade who said I should probably accept it.

so I have done.

I have just put my car details into we buy any car website- and they have offered me slightly more- but i bet once they viewed it- there would be £ off here for scratch, £ off for a bit of interior wear and tear etc. There is no way they would pay me the full price - as I know it won't sell on for much more than that.

It's just an easy way to sell your motor - it's not an accurate representation of the market value of it.

e1y1 · 14/08/2016 20:16

A seller can set the price at what they like, this is the case with anything (example your favourite coffee maybe a different price in Sainsbury's vs Tesco's).

Webuyanycar is not a market value price guage, the reason why someone would pay more than we buy any car is

  1. A customer cannot buy a car directly from we buy any car - so is not in the comparison when shopping around
  1. We buy any car will buy the car at less than market value, then sell the cars to dealerships and car auctions as a profit (otherwise webuyanycar would not make any money and go bust).

Something is only EVER worth what someone is willing to pay (if no one is willing to pay it, then the product doesn't sell)

Cost and worth are 2 different things.

Is this an elaborate advert for a particularly crappy online car buyer. Why why why would you think that was market value? They offer as low as £50 for some cars that would be worth four times that in scrap. If you want S guide to how much the car is worth use parkers guide or just put make and model and age into auto trader and see what price other similar cars are going for.

NewtoCornland · 14/08/2016 20:20

WBAC are vultures imo. They offer the lowest possible price and rely on people being desperate enough to go through with it. 2 examples from the past month (both my vehicles) as another forum I'm on were laughing about it...

Saxo, low miles, 12 months mot WBAC £50 private sale £700.

VW T4 transporter camper average mileage for type of vehicle, 12 months mot WBAC £75 private sale value £4000.

Admittedly WBAC have no idea about transporters, clearly, but it made me and many hundreds of others laugh.

PirateFairy45 · 14/08/2016 20:28

Because webuyanycar take the piss.

I bought a new car a couple year ago and just for intrigue purposes I put my reg in the site.

The car was bought for 15.5k, they offered me 4k.

Hmm
OpenMe · 14/08/2016 20:30

I was happy with the price we got, better than any px offer and none of the hassle of selling privately. Always worries me about checking cash is genuine and/or any comeback if the thing breaks down a few weeks later - I know they don't have any right to comeback but people do strange things and they'd know where I live!

Obviously you need to go into it knowing you won't get the best price but I've never felt ripped off and service has always been very good. A few hundred pounds not to have to deal with timewasters on my doorstep is money well spent imo

MillionToOneChances · 14/08/2016 20:33

Look on Parkers for a guide to used car prices in poor/average/excellent condition. WBAC price will be below the trade-in price, I would expect.

PlotterOfPlots · 14/08/2016 20:36

Get a Parker's or Glass's guide for a better idea than WBAC.

Or if you want to buy at WBAC kind of prices, go and bid against the dealers at an auction. You might get lucky. Then again...

WBAC offered me more than I could get px, but substantially less than the Parkers list price even in poor condition, private sale. And it was not in poor condition!
