We'd call Leonard -Leo, my OH likes Vincent but i'm not keen.
Feel like i've heard every boy name in the world now and still cant settle on one !
The surname is Bentley , I don't want him to be teased, but i like the solid sounding names that will fit an adult too
Thanks so much for suggestions :)

GinIsIn · 13/08/2016 13:05

Leonard is so not a posh name!

St John (pronounced sinjun)
Horatio
Arlo
Cosmo
Francis
Rupert
Milo/Miles

Jacobi
Hector
Conrad
Jasper

These are what I'd consider upper middle posh names. I think the upper classes play it safer with Edward, William, James type of names.

soyvanillalatte · 13/08/2016 13:08

Or is Laurence the posh one?

x2boys · 13/08/2016 13:08

I went to school with a St John we called him sinny a nd there was a seighfreid sp? In my sisters class

Zaphodsotherhead · 13/08/2016 13:09

Tamburlaine

I'm finding it interesting that, with a very few exceptions (Kit, et al), most of these 'posh' boys names are very 'gendered'. You wouldn''t (probably, although there are always exceptions) find a little girl called Ptolemy or Jolyon. Maybe that's what makes them 'posh' - not being bi-gendered? (Thinking of names like Tyler, Robin, Dorcas etc,,,)

soyvanillalatte · 13/08/2016 13:11

We know a Dashiel...Dash for short

Owlytellsmesecrets · 13/08/2016 13:11

Horatio I'd nn Hero

We loved Korbin but had a girl so we now own a rabbit called Korbin!

girlandboy · 13/08/2016 13:12

It's got to be Digby

superbean · 13/08/2016 13:14

All the genuinely posh people I know are known by names which are not in fact their real names. Their nicknames are either shorter versions of their real names, or often bear no resemblance at all to their actual name.

That said I know two Digbys who both have lakes at their family homes..

FWIW I don't think you can go wrong with choosing a classic name. In the right circles, names like Thomas and James are perfect and often chosen
. It's fine to use Horatio Ralph Benedict III if that's what you like, but it might be weird if it looks like you are trying too hard. Nothing posh about hearing "Arabella" screamed by a fishwife across Lidl car park is there?

Jago? Kit? Hector? Rupert? Lysander? Actually, just pick up a Jilly Cooper novel!
