Sunning myself in Stresa, Lago Maggiore ..

Now 'stress' would be a more accurate description...

I was 16, doing a cleaning job for the woman in the Big House up the road. Used to go there on my bike, up a huge hill to get there but freewheeled all the way down going AAAGGGH with the rain belting into my face. The O'level results came out in August, so round about now would be the day I got home from work to find that my parents had gone out, left my exam results, which had come in the post, propped up on the mantelpiece so that I could see them through the window and then locked me out. They got home to find me round the back trying to break a window.

Was 2 months in to my dream job. In Kensington High Street which really was the place to be in 1986. We had a big party every Friday. There would have been loads of people, new colleagues - many of whom have since become very good friends. One of the happiest years of my life.

Was waiting to be admitted to Kings College as seven months pregnant with my first child who had been diagnosed with numerous physical abnormalities. Was in horrendous shock and terrible anguish not imagining what the future would hold, whether the child would survive. However in some ways it was a very very special time, my exdh and I alone in our pain but very much together

PerspicaciaTick · 12/08/2016 18:09

I was 16 - so I guess I was getting stressed about my forthcoming O-level results.

Unemployed "because you've been to college, if you were a school leaver we'd put you on an apprenticeship but you are too old now" Oddly, two years earlier I was told I had to go to college to get an apprenticeship so I did.

I was 18 - in early August I think I had just got back from 6 months working abroad and a few weeks solo travelling, and was getting ready to go off to university. I think that was the last time I ever spent more than a month living in my parents' house.

I had DS when I was 30, so he turned 18 this week, and we're still not sure if he's off to uni in the autumn or taking a gap year.

HelenaJustina · 12/08/2016 18:11

Heading towards my second birthday, probably on holiday with my parents and 5 month old baby sister.

marmiteloversunite · 12/08/2016 18:12

In the throes of the terrible twos. Maybe this was when I was taken to hospital with a pencil rubber stuck up my nose....

Makinglists · 12/08/2016 18:16

Wishing I lived anywhere but where I did with horrible foster carers.

Justice did finally happen but it took a long long time.

CakeThat · 12/08/2016 18:26

It was the summer before starting high school and it was all about getting my ears pierced! I'd been asking for them to be done since the age of 5 but my mum kept saying that I'd have to wait until big school - that summer she could put it off no longer!

SabineUndine · 12/08/2016 18:27

I think I was in Paris for a week.

Terramirabilis · 12/08/2016 18:27

I was five and on summer holidays. No memories at all of that summer, though.

ShowChin · 12/08/2016 18:27

In France for the summer with my new boyfriend, young, slim and thinking I was the bee's knees in my 'Chelsea Girl' outfits - he's still around (now my dh) but the figure's long gone Sad

GetTheVolvoVal · 12/08/2016 18:28
