At the beach today with ds. It's fairly busy, lots of kids running around.
I am surrounded by people smoking. 2 people behind me are smoking and a woman in front of me. Plus a group of people just down the beach a bit who are all Smoking. It stinks.
I know it's an open space so they are entitled I suppose but it's horrible and there are kids running around etc. You can't help but smell it etc!
Just wish beaches were smoke free zones. Plus all of them are putting the cigarette ends in the sand!
Aibu to be annoyed?!!

You know the tide comes in and out, right?

expatinscotland · 13/08/2016 18:06

Anyone want to find out where some of these people live and stage a smoke-in?

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 13/08/2016 18:16

expat 'We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, and we shall fight on the fields and streets!'

gillybeanz · 13/08/2016 18:28

How could it ever be banned outside?
Plus the NHS would be far worse off without smokers.
The gov get far more in tax from smokers than it costs the NHS to care for them.
How would they Police no smoking outside, that would be funny. Perhaps they could employ smoking patrols Grin what a stupid suggestion.

I walked through play area smoking the other night, no kids about and hadn't seen the sign.
A woman came up and pointed out there was a sign, I replied I hadn't seen it and carried on walking. She asked if I was going to put it out and I said no.
I carried on walking and by now was out of play area, turned round to see her stomping down the hill, and falling over rolling down the hill. God I laughed so hard I was breathless. Grin
There is no law that says you can't smoke outside, even if there was nobody would take any notice.

dancetilldawn · 13/08/2016 18:29

Theres a lot of anger and resentment aimed at smokers. Imo the anger should be aimed at the tobacco companies who add all the addictive poisons to get people hooked. They are highly addictive, I managed to give them up, no thanks to them. It's bloody hypocritical of the government to allow the sale of something that contains so many poisons as well.

What other product would be allowed on shop shelves that's contains all the shit that cigarettes contain.

MerchantofVenice · 13/08/2016 18:40

They manage to police a pretty comprehensive ban on many outside locations in Australia Gilly since you're so concerned.

Oh but well done you for smoking in a kids' play area. Expect that feels good.

I find it's so much better to try to be witty and urbane about these issues, sneer at and mock those with genuine concerns and basically refuse to actually engage with the basic question of 'should a poisonous and offensive habit be encouraged in public?' Well done. You are all very clever.

Salmotrutta · 13/08/2016 18:48

Did someone say "Smoke In"?

I'm free tomorrow between 10.00am and 2pm.

JudyCoolibar · 13/08/2016 18:49

What a nasty aggressive set of messages on the smoking side here - have a smoke in at "these people's" houses? Laughing at someone who fell over just because she dared to point out you weren't supposed to smoke in a play area? Dying of self-righteousness? "Frothing"?

And all because someone dares to say she doesn't enjoy smoke being blown in her face.

Have a good look at yourselves, people.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 13/08/2016 18:50

I was merely quoting a well-known smoker. I vape, myself Grin

MerchantofVenice · 13/08/2016 18:52

Exactly, Judy. Aggressive is right. I bet they wouldn't actually speak to people like this in the flesh (except for gilly perhaps who mocks people in parks).

Salmotrutta · 13/08/2016 18:54

have a good look at yourselves people

Ah well, that's us told then.

Watch out for nose-bleeds up on that moral high ground.

MerchantofVenice · 13/08/2016 18:54

There is a point, Itshould when it's better to stop trying to be funny.

isitseptemberyet · 13/08/2016 18:55

i can totally relate , i often feel my blood boil at beaches and parks (basically areas for children), and adults are puffing away. I often confront people, its disgusting, revolting and i hope i live to see the day where it's banned in public completely. Even when i was a teenager (going thru a bit of a rebellious goth stage) i wouldnt have ever walked down the street smoking as i was aware of it blowing into children's faces (and people in general). So many people have so little respect! I remember once someone flicked their ash and the hot cherry top came off and flew straight into my sons pram, i lost the plot !!
Haven't read anyone else's posts , but i really think there's no excuse for smoking around peoples children , this 'open space' bollocks makes me so mad. Keep ur cancerous fumes to yourselves

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 13/08/2016 18:55

Always amuses me how people are all over smokers, and yet, while smoking in public has dramatically declined, there is still an increase in childhood asthma. Next time you're chugging along in your 4X4, sneering at the few smokers left on the planet, show a little bit of self-awareness, eh?

MerchantofVenice · 13/08/2016 18:56

You know, Salmotrutta it might be more effective actually to make a point rather than endlessly pointing out that you hold the higher moral ground in contempt.

TheySayIamparanoid · 13/08/2016 18:56

Pack of 2 windproof lighters in most pound shops!

JudyCoolibar · 13/08/2016 18:58

You know, I could have put money on the fact that there was going to be a response in almost the precise words Salmotrutta used. So predictable.

MerchantofVenice · 13/08/2016 18:58

Does that amuse you, Itshould? Well, surprise, surprise - I don't drive a 4x4 or anything remotely like it. What other useless points have you got?

Salmotrutta · 13/08/2016 19:01

I don't feel the need to "make a point" actually.

Other than to say that smoking outside, on a beach, is not the crime of the century.

Oh no.

I'm predictable.

Salmotrutta · 13/08/2016 19:04

It's brilliant isn't it usual?

Grin

I expect we'll be accused of bullying next.

So predictable...
