To not tell my son I lied to him?

DerekSprechenZeDick · 11/08/2016 09:15

And let him continue pretending to be poorly and see how far he goes?

I told him last night that he's back at school today. He has woken with a super bad fake cough, has complained about belly ache, his toe also hurts him.

I'm waiting to be told he has a broken leg Grin

How ill should I let him get before I let him know I was messing with him and he has weeks yet?

He's nearly 7.

Think he's working it out as he's asked me what time it is. He knows he's at school for 9.

The cogs are turning as he works out of half 9 is after 9 Grin

Years ago my Mum actually sent me back to school a week early. I turned up in uniform to a locked school gate and a bemused caretaker.
It was an accident but apart from the embarrassment I can still remember the little thrill of realising I had another week of holidays to go!

OP: he'll perk up as soon as he twigs that school should have started an hour ago. Grin

Poor OP, seems everyone's forgetting their sense of humour this morning. OP I give it till 11, by then he may assume it's too late to take him to school and magically recover Grin

MammaTJ · 11/08/2016 09:40

Oh this is hilarious!! I love it and would try to do it to my two if they weren't plugged into their tablets, phones and sky and too well aware of the date now and the date they go back (DS's birthday, poor lad).

I know your relationship with your DS, OP. I know he can handle it and will give as good as he gets when he finally realises.

Watch your back Derek, watch your back!! Grin

TheGruffaloMother · 11/08/2016 09:40

It's no different proud. When you come from a jokey family, a harmless little prank like this is actually far better than telling your kids for years that a bloke sneaks into the house while they're asleep.

laidbackneko · 11/08/2016 09:40

Ooor, could this be a case of you don't know that he knows? And he is actually the one messing with you? Grin

Vixxfacee · 11/08/2016 09:41

Sorry to say but this thread just made me realise that alot of people agree with the regulars (popularity contest on here) but when it's a newbie or they think it's a newbie they actually say what they think.

I told my son he was going back to school at Hogwarts ..... On the day before school starts he cried because he couldn't find his robes for school.Blush

Amelie10 · 11/08/2016 09:42

Maybe he is getting me back already and is about to throw up everywhere Grin

I've been informed that his toe doesn't hurt as much so think he's realising. He usually gets his uniform out the night before, he likes to be organised. He didn't even ask where his new uniform is.

I think he's unsure and just pretending just in case Grin

How dare I? Quite easily. You're getting het up about a harmless joke. It says a lot.

99GBPChargeToUseMyPostsJournos · 11/08/2016 09:45

I thought it was funny.

But then I saw the funny side when my brother woke me up in a panic because it was 9 o clock. I rushed to get dressed, and went downstairs.. To see my parents sitting watching the 9 o clock news.

To be fair, he didn't lie....

You can tell it's the school holidays, people on here start to snarl a few weeks in Wink

Noonesfool · 11/08/2016 09:45

I'm shit at predicting Sad

It's interesting that anyone who doesn't think it's funny is being told they are a misery guts/have had a sense of humour failure. Might just be that different people find different things funny.....

Vixx can you explain that please? Is the op supposed to be a newbie or an oldie?

Clearly it had no impact on my response. It's just a shitty thing to do and I would say the same whether or not the op was a known name.

ohidoliketobe · 11/08/2016 09:46

Jesus, grip needed for a lot of people on here this morning.
From the brief info in the op and follow up replies you now nothing about the mother/ son dynamics in the relationship. Alright, yeah, in the wildest extreme Derek could really be fucking with the child's head. Or, more likely, it's just a joke. My Dad and I used to play pranks and jokes on each other all the time and I'm not emotionally scarred as as result. It fact it gave me as sense of humour.

Also, did someone call troll up thread?

DerekSprechenZeDick · 11/08/2016 09:46

Most people in RL joke with their kids like this. I grew up with my parents and friends parents doing silly things like this.

I don't have trust issues. I don't remember all the little lies and pranks. I remember some and we still laugh at them now.

Growing up with parents without a sense of humour is worse

flanjabelle · 11/08/2016 09:47

Agree with noone none of the people saying it's not on have started calling the other side names. It's not really necessary.
