To go to Rhyl when pregnant

Jayne266 · 07/08/2016 21:06

I am currently 38 + 1 and wanted to pop to Rhyl to see my brother which is roughly a hours drive away. My mum and dad are not happy with this and think it's too risky and my dh just thinks I need to judge it on the day.
I didn't even think twice but am I being silly to go ?

I went an hour plus away at same stage. Don't see huge issue.

tibbawyrots · 07/08/2016 21:08

eh?

Floggingmolly · 07/08/2016 21:09

What dangers lurk in Rhyl? Lots of people commute for an hour or longer, don't they?

Idliketobeabutterfly · 07/08/2016 21:10

Also they have hospitals in Rhyl... I think

JedRambosteen · 07/08/2016 21:10

Is anyone coming with you who could drive you to hospital or home if things kick off?

HappyAsASandboy · 07/08/2016 21:10

At 38 weeks I was still commuting 2 hours each way to work!

If you feel capable of doing it then go. Take your notes with you, and know where the nearest maternity unit is. If labour comes while you're away and you can't get back, your partner will only have an hour to travel to get to you Smile

Flisspaps · 07/08/2016 21:10

Go! You might have another 4 weeks to go yet, do you parents expect you to remain housebound until the birth?! Do they not realise people in Rhyl manage to have babies perfectly fine?

dylsmimi · 07/08/2016 21:11

Sounds ok if you feel up to it. Would it make them feel better if you ensure you have a topped up mobile and your notes and bag in the car?
If you go over it could be another month before the baby is born (sorry!! Grin )

Fairylea · 07/08/2016 21:12

What? Confused

We live in south Norfolk and our hospital is an hours drive away. It would be like people never having babies in our part of the world..!

Sassypants82 · 07/08/2016 21:12

Eh... Absolutely go. Is this your first? Unlikely you'll go early if it is.

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2016 21:13

In the nicest possible way, it's Rhyl you're driving to, not darkest Siberia.

I have heard that people have been pregnant before in Rhyl.

WorraLiberty · 07/08/2016 21:17

The thread title made me laugh too!

It reads as if the OP is worried about catching a disease from the locals Grin

Jayne266 · 07/08/2016 21:18

See I thought it was just me but the people around me seemed worried. Getting a bit sick of getting treated like I might break but I guess it's only because they care. I will be going with ds (4yrs) my dh will be at work. And yes there is hospitals I can go to if required.

Take notes and hospital bag with you. No problem.

Jayne266 · 07/08/2016 21:21

I am loving the responses I didn't realise the title made me sound I was going to the dark depths of Wales. Thank you all I thought I was being silly to not even question going but you are all confirming my parents alternative thoughts to mine x

I hated pregnancy but great going out in last weeks as ppl always assumed you would go into spontaneous labour. Great to see freaking out stranger and friends/family.

ilovesooty · 07/08/2016 21:25

I thought Rhyl had become dangerous for pregnant women Grin

ProfYaffle · 07/08/2016 21:28

Fairylea snap, I'm in South Norfolk too, was going to post the same thing!

Rhyl's probably best avoided whether pregnant or not though ;)

herecomesthsun · 07/08/2016 21:29

Just watch out for the Welsh cakes. Oh and mind the bara brith.

Lucyccfc · 07/08/2016 21:29

I drove to Leicester (3 hour drive) to go and watch a football match the day before my due date. No big deal driving an hour away for you. Just make sure you have petrol and a fully charged mobile phone.

sallysparrow157 · 07/08/2016 21:30

To be fair, I wouldn't choose to go to Rhyl whether I was pregnant or not - what's the point now they've closed down the Sun Centre?! (birthday party venue of choice when I was in primary school!). Seriously though, the hospital in Rhyl has pretty good paediatric/maternity cover so in the unlikely event you go into labour and deliver your baby in the short time you're there, you'll at least be well looked after!
