To go to Rhyl when pregnant

Jayne266 · 07/08/2016 21:06

I am currently 38 + 1 and wanted to pop to Rhyl to see my brother which is roughly a hours drive away. My mum and dad are not happy with this and think it's too risky and my dh just thinks I need to judge it on the day.
I didn't even think twice but am I being silly to go ?

Go to Conwy or somewhere instead, it'll be an extra half hour or so on top but it's probably worth it to bypass Rhyl Grin

Its unreasonable to go there anytime... its Rhyl, and the best part of Rhyl is the way out ;)

However, If you insist on going :P there is a hospital about 15 mins away from Rhyl, Glan Clwyd Hospital just incase (fhere is a hospital in Rhyl but its more an infirmary type, outpatients etc... Glan Clwyd is the main hospital).

p.s.. don't forget your inoculations before you go.

SquinkiesRule · 07/08/2016 22:10

catsize They've close the Sun Centre?!?! Noooooooo!!!
It closed years ago, so sad, it was the best thing in Rhyl.

NatureCreatesFreaks · 07/08/2016 22:12

Ysbyty Glan Clwyd is 15mins away from Rhyl.
You'll be fine

AnotherTimeMaybe · 07/08/2016 22:15

Where is Rhyl? And where are you based?

whattheseithakasmean · 07/08/2016 22:15

Not Ryhl? . The horror! The horror!

NatureCreatesFreaks · 07/08/2016 22:16

tootsietoo what's wrong with a welsh baby? Both of mine were born in ysbyty gwynedd.
My sister, living in england at the time even came to stay with our mum in wales to make sure she had a welsh baby. Hers were born in ysbyty glan clwyd. It's a very nice hosp

NatureCreatesFreaks · 07/08/2016 22:17

I used to work in Woolies in Rhyl! It is dire!

IAmNotAMindReader · 07/08/2016 22:18

Take your bag, notes and when you get to your brothers enter the hospital into your sat nav to save time just in case.

SemiNormal · 07/08/2016 22:20

I have heard that people have been pregnant before in Rhyl. - Hearsay, I don't think anyone in Rhyl has been pregnant - EVER. I don't think it's wise to give OP a false impression resulting in false confidence about visiting Rhyl whilst pregnant.

OP YANBU don't go. Rhyl is not a place for pregnant people Grin

I went on holiday to Rhyl when I was little, the only thing I remember is the Sun Centre - best not to bother if it's closed Grin

Magstermay · 07/08/2016 22:24

Meant to add, DS1 was born at 38+2 quite quickly, so be prepared!

heatherwithapee · 07/08/2016 22:24

Gosh, where I come from, many people have an hour's drive to the nearest maternity hospital. We survive.

It's fine. Go for it. I wouldn't drive cross-country or go abroad but an hour away is 'just down the road'.

Sara107 · 07/08/2016 22:27

It depends on how comfortable you are driving I think, rather than the risk that you might suddenly give unexpected birth on the way (my stupid predictive text won't allow me to make the place you're going!). My baby was huge and by that stage my bump was also huge and not great for squeezing behind the steering wheel. Also hips and pelvis suffering, I would not have felt able to drive myself an hour there and back. But if you have a neat bump and are fully comfortable with the physical act of driving then go for it!

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/08/2016 22:29

What? Don't forget your jabs OP...

Fluffsnuts · 07/08/2016 22:31

At 38 weeks I was in labour so won't be going that far from home next time but if your DS was late I wouldn't hesitate, like DH says, judge on the day. Take notes and a bag.

SomedayBaby · 07/08/2016 22:33

RHYL?

twinmamma2b · 07/08/2016 23:08

Heaven forbid having a Welsh baby, Tootsietoo. Hmm

Porcupinetree · 07/08/2016 23:09

Anybody else think this sounds like a euphemism? Hmm

OreosAreTasty · 07/08/2016 23:11

Fully charge your phone, take your notes and hospital bag (good idea to take it with you when you go out anyway. Easy to send Dh home to get it but less faff if you've got it in the car I guess!)
Sorted. You'll be fine :) if you were going to a more isolated part of
Wales where the nearest hospital is a 2hr drive or something I'd say YABU but in Rhyl you'll be fine

NorksAreMessy · 07/08/2016 23:15

Do they have malaria in Rhyl?
Poisonous spiders?
Tornadoes?

Nope?

You might be OK

SomedayBaby · 07/08/2016 23:23

Heaven forbid having a Welsh baby, Tootsietoo

Tootsietoo made a fair point. Imagine ending up with a Welsh baby...crying and squealing in Welsh, you'd never have a clue what it was saying.

Stay well clear op.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 07/08/2016 23:24

I can't think of anything nice to say about Glan Clwyd. Steer clear of the pineapples during your visit?

Rhyl is my local 'big town' Sad

Butteredparsnips · 07/08/2016 23:24

Wait. They've closed the sun centre? I loved that place in the 80s.

Back to the thread though. Am sure it will all be fine.
