To go to Rhyl when pregnant

Jayne266 · 07/08/2016 21:06

I am currently 38 + 1 and wanted to pop to Rhyl to see my brother which is roughly a hours drive away. My mum and dad are not happy with this and think it's too risky and my dh just thinks I need to judge it on the day.
I didn't even think twice but am I being silly to go ?

It might be an absolute dive but it's certainly not Chernobyl. How funny. No you aren't being U to go to Rhyl. There are hospitals nearby and it's not even that far from an English hospital.

sallysparrow157 · 07/08/2016 21:33

The North Wales hospitals are all pretty good as far as paediatric cover is concerned - Glan Clwyd and Ysbyty Gwynedd are both great.

Topseyt · 07/08/2016 21:33

Well, Rhyl is in darkest North Wales isn't it?

Maybe they haven't heard of pregnancy there. Go and be the first pregnant woman ever in Rhyl. Grin

What are they worried might happen?

Hassled · 07/08/2016 21:34

They force Brie and pate and vodka down the throats of pregnant women in Rhyl. True fact. If I were you I'd stay well away.

sallysparrow157 · 07/08/2016 21:35

To be fair, if you do go into labour there's a ready supply of... erm... interesting pharmaceuticals to supplement your gas and air/epidural... just have a little wander around the local pubs before you go to hospital...

Lelloteddy · 07/08/2016 21:35

I wouldn't go to Rhyl again ever.
But that's just personal choice and nothing to be with being pregnant Wink

SquinkiesRule · 07/08/2016 21:38

Rhyl? Not somewhere I go by choice, work sent me the other week it's about a 1/2 hour from us. Bloody dire, but there are lots of pregnant women there, I saw them walking along the prom, ready to pop and pushing older babies in pushchairs. Its quite the fertile place.
The hospitals are nice and friendly, and your baby would be Welsh by birth if you have it here.

JudyCoolibar · 07/08/2016 21:39

Was DC1 early, on time, or late? Second pregnancies often follow a similar pattern to first ones.

OrigamiOverload · 07/08/2016 21:39

I went to Rhyl once.

You'll be fine. Grin

Lolimax · 07/08/2016 21:40

You might go into spontaneous labour from sheer boredom. But thanks for making me smile tonight!

teacherwith2kids · 07/08/2016 21:42

Glan Clwyd hospital is 4 miles away, and has maternity care. That's about 20 miles closer than my closest hospital when DS was born....

Pardonwhat · 07/08/2016 21:45

I've given birth there. You'll be fine.

SharonfromEON · 07/08/2016 21:46

I went to Rhyl with my DS not knowing a soul a couple of years ago..We both survived...

Yes go see your DB..Take your notes...

Wolpertinger · 07/08/2016 21:46

You are frankly being unreasonable to go to Rhyl ever unless it is a matter or life or limb.

However an hour's journey in itself is not a problem.

Hawkmoth · 07/08/2016 21:47

I had my most efficient hospital experience ever at the big place near Rhyl. Just don't mess with any seagulls, which isn't why I went to hospital. I fell down some stairs.

sunnydayinmay · 07/08/2016 21:50

I read the thread title twice, wondering if the was another Rhyl in a Zika Virus area...

I would go, if you are still comfortable driving, and not in labour.

OSETmum · 07/08/2016 21:52

Well Rhyl is pretty depressing but I'm you're going to see your db so I can see why you're going!

I went away in our caravan at 38 weeks pregnant to a place 3 hours away. I was convinced DS would be born in the caravan and even took a car seat for him! He wasn't but he is named after the place that we went! Ermm... Could Rhyl be a trendy new name?!

Mummabear22 · 07/08/2016 21:52

I went a 3hr drive away from home at 39weeks! I just made sure I had my hospital notes and bag with me, and made sure there was plenty of places to stop. You'll be fine, don't let people tell you what to do. As long as there haven't been any signs of baby you'll be fine.

FairNotFair · 07/08/2016 21:52

Don't do it, OP.

OSETmum · 07/08/2016 21:52

(I should add the name is a proper boy's name, he's not called Brooklyn or anything!)

tootsietoo · 07/08/2016 21:55

What if you go into labour there and have a Welsh baby???? I steered well clear of Wrexham for at least a month before my due date. I'd think really hard before you do this.

WanderingTrolley1 · 07/08/2016 21:57

Lol at this thread!

Rhyl is quite safe, as I'm sure you'll be an hour down the road!

Ilovewillow · 07/08/2016 22:00

With my first I was still at work at 38 weeks and with my second went on holiday a week before, took a hospital bag and extra car seat but if I were you I'd judge it in the day and if you feel ok go for it!

Catsize · 07/08/2016 22:00

They've close the Sun Centre?!?! Noooooooo!!!

ladymarymoo · 07/08/2016 22:03

Great hospital near to Rhyl is called Glan Clywd, however labour isn't like it is on TV, if it's a first baby you could be in labour for many hours. A visit to your bro shouldn't present a major issue!

The A55 is a busy road, yesterday lots of queues and added at least 50 additional minutes from Chester to Rhyl.
