To go to Rhyl when pregnant

Jayne266 · 07/08/2016 21:06

I am currently 38 + 1 and wanted to pop to Rhyl to see my brother which is roughly a hours drive away. My mum and dad are not happy with this and think it's too risky and my dh just thinks I need to judge it on the day.
I didn't even think twice but am I being silly to go ?

Oi! tootsietoo
What's wrong with being born in Wrexham, then?
Head tilt

I have heard that in Wales, pain relief in labour is provided in the form of a strange cheese on toast style dish, and a Tom Jones cassette.

This is fast turning into an unexpected favourite thread. Which is good as I only clicked on the thread because I misread it as "Rio".

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2016 07:23

You're going to Rhyl.... When you're pregnant. You darned, crazy fool.

Oh come on it could be worse, you're not going to Merthyr.

Lolimax · 08/08/2016 07:54

Careful coconutty....my 2 were born in the lovely Neville Hall!

tootsietoo · 08/08/2016 13:32

Hummmmm, it was a joke! I am married to a Welshman and live not too far from the border, it is a regular argument in our house as to whether the children are Welsh or not. They are Welsh mostly when the rugby is on.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 08/08/2016 13:51

The thread title makes you sound like an Alan Bennett character OP.

EreniTheFrog · 08/08/2016 15:20

Fab thread Grin. Glad the OP appreciates the humour.

But we'll have to keep this thread going, just in case she gives birth along in way.

VladmirsPoutine · 08/08/2016 15:27

I always find it hilarious when posters recount the time they were playing in the Rugby world cup or parachuting down the himalayas at nearly full term Hmm.
OP go to Rhyl and enjoy yourself.

Propolis · 08/08/2016 15:40

"Go to Rhyl and enjoy yourself"
Said no one, ever :)

bigbluebus · 08/08/2016 16:02

Do you think your child will ever forgive you when they find out that Rhyl is listed as place of birth on their birth certificate Grin

What is it that these people are concerned about OP - Is it the fact that you will be driving when you are so heavily pregnant? Is it the fact that you are going to Wales - although you may of course already live in Wales - I don't think you actually said you were in England?

People have babies in North Wales too. I'm sure they drive cars whilst pregnant. The A55 is usually pretty free flowing as long as it's not a Saturday or a very sunny day and you choose you travel time carefully. There will be places where there is no mobile phone signal but the chances of suddenly going into labour whilst driving in those spots is quite small. There are quite a few cafes/fast food places where you can stop for a wee. Not sure what the problem is - as long as you are happy to do it.

Atinybittiredandsad · 08/08/2016 16:10

Personally Rhyl is best avoided upduffed or not Grin

Go op

Jayne266 · 08/08/2016 17:18

Lol you guys are fab I think the problem was just being a hour or so away from dh, with ds on my own. ( I think as it's not my issue) x

YABU to go to Rhyl whether pregnant or not. One of the biggest shit holes you're likely to find. Had the misfortune to drive through a few years ago.

AnnieOnnieMouse · 08/08/2016 18:09

Just teasing, tootsietoo!
OP, apart from the obvious teasing, you've had good advice; take your notes, maybe anything you'd need, hospital bag, etc, if you're really fussed, and go see your brother, as long as you still feel fine the day you're planning to go.

tootsietoo · 08/08/2016 18:13

I could tell you were Annie, wasn't sure about the other rolly eyes though!

KERALA1 · 08/08/2016 18:13

Hmm I was thought badly of for refusing to go to my dads 60th 3 hours drive away at 37 weeks. "First babies are always late" comments etc. Waters broke dramatically that Saturday lunchtime. Would have been ok but really stressful to have a baby in random location as first time mother.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/08/2016 18:18

YABU to go to Rhyl at any time.

Ysbyty Glan Clwyd is right nearby if you need it though so YANBU. If you're only an hour away are you already under Glan Clwyd?

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/08/2016 18:20

Oi tootsie Wrexham Maelor babies are the best!

TheSnowFairy · 08/08/2016 18:21

Aaron I thought this WAS going to be about Rio and had auto corrected to Rhyl Grin

Stratter5 · 08/08/2016 19:38

Don't.

It's Rhylly dangerous :(

herecomesthsun · 08/08/2016 19:43

Back in 1963/4, apparently there were so many pregnant ladies in London that it was hard to get a space in an antenatal clinic. So my mum decided that the best and safest thing to do was go back home to Bala and live with her mam/my nain. I came 2 months early and they were bluelighted through the mountains with a police escort and a siren.

I am another Wrexham Maelor baby.

Just don't go and hide deep in the mountains...

You and Yours today, commenting on Rhyl. Be very afraid of goats cheese and marmalade sandwiches.
