To think this behaviour is unacceptable?

I'm an ordinary person, who likes most things, but AIBU to think that smooth peanut butter is just wrong and the people who eat it surely come from a different planet, even to men? I think they must definitely come from Uranus. It is just unacceptable behaviour from a "so say" (using fingers to emphasise the " ") human being to like such a thing. What are your thoughts?

*bits = nuts

NickiFury · 05/08/2016 19:49

Matilda we too are a peanut butter free zone. I would eat the entire jar straight from the spoon, so no peanut butter allowed in the Fury Household Sad

SmilingGivesYouWrinkles · 05/08/2016 19:56

Best sandwich ever is crunchy peanut butter, sliced banana, Philadelphia and apricot jam.

You may all thank me by going straight over to the Greatest Ever Mumsnetter thread and posting my name.

Scrummy peanut butter 'recipe'..

  • Cut up some celery 'logs'.
  • Fill the celery with peanut butter (crunchy of course).
  • Top with raisins. Voila, ants on a log (as the recipe is called)

Ants on a log can be made with any filling though, such as Philadelphia, or another kind of nut butter. It's best with peanut butter, in my opinion.

The whole peanut butter, celery and raisins thing also works wonderfully in a sandwich.

PB&J sandwiches are amazing grilled. As are PB & banana ones.

We buy the 1kg tubs of meridian pb in both crunchy and smooth - there's room for both in this mad world! I stir some smooth into mine and DS' porridge on a morning, and he often gets in on toast or a crumpet again at lunchtime - he's practically made of it. He's only 8 months old so it's probably best to have it smooth.

I love peanut butter in all its forms. M&S did a mini tub of a peanut butter, chocolate and caramel ice cream a couple of years ago - it was divine!

Farmmummy · 05/08/2016 20:31

Nononono must be crunchy in peanut butter brownies! Bugger it now getting off arse to make peanut butter brownies before DH gets home to share

impostersyndrome · 05/08/2016 20:40

Crunchy all the way! Sainsburys organic is sublime. No added sugar (sweet pb is an abomination). Put on toast slathered with butter that has added salt crystals and you're in crunch city.

farmmummy do you have a recipe for the peanut butter brownies? So far I've only ever had walnut brownies and I'm trying to work out whether I'd like the combo (see above regarding sweet pb), though I suppose it'd work if the chocolate is bitter enough...)

FloatyFlo · 05/08/2016 21:22

Everybody knows it's smooth on toast and crunchy in a sandwich. End of.

Although my kids have taken a new liking to peanut butter and cheese sandwiches. Thanks Topsy and Tim Hmm

Tiger44 · 05/08/2016 21:54

Far too many uranians here for my liking. IABVVVR I'll have you know!

I'm now thinking a taste test of all these amazing crunchy peanut butter recipes must commence forthwith! Tesco's own brand is my choice brand (other lesser brands are available). My favourite combinations are....

Crunchy pb on toast with grated apple.
Cpb on toast with chopped cucumber straight from the fridge to give that satisfying cold sticky combo.
Cpb on rice cakes with jam.
Cpb on rice cakes with red leicester.
Cpb cookies.

The most important thing when eating cpb is the after teeth picking for the bits that get stuck. There is nothing as satisfying as hooking a finger way back into your molars.

I misread that and was bewildered at how a thread about peanut butter had turned into a rant about Eastern Europeans! Blush

I only really eat peanut butter in baked things anyway. I cannot bear the idea of it in toast or a sandwich or anything. Apart from the cookies, those combinations sound rather unpleasant!

I made some yummy peanut butter flapjacks once, but I can't find the recipe.

Cantgetmyoldnameback · 05/08/2016 23:50

These are yummy, peanut butter and white chocolate brownies

Crunchy peanut butter and marmite? I have met my people.
DH thinks it's wrong but I love it. You have validated my food choice, I thank you.

itsonlysubterfuge · 06/08/2016 09:08

They sell peanut butter M&M's at B&M, just saying to all of those interested. Probably a lot cheaper than Amazon. Also, when Shrek first came out they did Ogre sized ones, those were even better. If you enjoy peanut butter M&M's baked into cookies, try it with Reese's Pieces as well, they are peanut butter with a hard shell, no chocolate.

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 06/08/2016 12:12

Each to their own. I don't understand why anyone would eat any version of peanut butter as it just looks so ghastly. Can't abide nuts in any form, unless cut up and covered in yoghurt/white chocolate (yes I know for serious chocoholics it doesn't count as real chocolate) but still.

I can't understand the attraction to gherkins either. And pickled eggs - what are they all about?

Vipermisnomer · 06/08/2016 12:21

To understand the power of the humble gherkin, consume sliced on a bed of mayonnaise covered pastrami sandwiched between toasted wholegrain bagel - preferably with a dash of course grain mustard. Sliced tomato or extra fresh spinach optional.

Pickled eggs are wrong.

STOP THE PRESS

I am about to try marmite, peanut butter and cream cheese. I will report back in 5 minutes.

Vipermisnomer · 06/08/2016 12:51
StealthPolarBear · 06/08/2016 12:54

I agree op. The point of peanut butter I'd to be slightly mashed peanuts on toast.
I'd add anyone who has jam on crumpets to the "not quite human" category.

Alleycat1 · 06/08/2016 12:54

Crunchy! Mmmmmm. Am definitely going to try the PB and Marmite, two of my faves.
Tom and Jerry's peanut butter ice cream is 'awesome' as my rellies across the pond would say.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 06/08/2016 12:58

It was very very nice although I overdid the marmite somewhat.

I'd have it again.

Wink at Viper

SortItAhhht · 06/08/2016 13:01

I abhor the crunchy Whole Earth stuff my DH buys.

Give me a nice, smooth, creamy palm oil loaded jar of Skippy any day Grin

redshoeblueshoe · 06/08/2016 13:03

The best sandwich in the world is:
CPB, cold roast chicken, sliced onion and a sprinkling of sea salt
serve with Wine

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/08/2016 13:11

I prefer smooth on a toasted bagel and crunchy on toast or sliced apple (apples have to be quite sour). I do buy the no added sugar varieties but love skippy

If you are liking things a little crunchy then you will love Lidl Deluxe chocolate hazelnut spread. It has little pieces of hazelnut in so you can pretend it's healthyish it is delicious eaten by the spoon

2kids2dogsnosense · 06/08/2016 13:15

Crunchy PB is the Food of the Gods! Delicious!

That smooth muck looks as though it has been scraped off a nappy and onto the toast . . .

2kids2dogsnosense · 06/08/2016 13:16

Redshoe - I am going to cook a chicken so that I can try that. It sounds phenomenal.
