Ive just come back from Spain and there was a real selections of shapes and sizes but what they outwardly had in common was they were all wearing swimwear of varying sorts and they were all having fun! Please wear what you are comfortable in, have fun and feel amazing!

spankhurst · 06/08/2016 19:41

Have a look on YouTube at people like Fat Girl Flow and Sarah Rae Vargas. There are lots of beautiful, confident larger women with YT channels.

donajimena · 06/08/2016 19:46

Like willow I have also come back from Spain and trust me you CAN wear a bikini I've seen all shapes and sizes and no one gives a toss. Its far too hot for a one piece anyway.
Just choose one that you feel comfortable in (physically) so you don't have to pick at bits or worry about malfunction (my top came down in rough seas Blush
go forth and enjoy!

MotherFuckingChainsaw · 06/08/2016 19:50

nd i didn't notice the men going through all this swimwear angst. Beer guts, hairy backs and saggy bits displayed without a care in the world

I've been reading this thread (and others in a similar vein) and a thought just occurred to me. Can you remember what any one person that you saw on your last holiday was wearing? Anyone? On the beach, by the pool, at a restaurant? Nope. We (I include myself) worry far, far too much of what strangers will think or say about us. Don't waste energy worrying op, wear your bikini!!

I have a big tummy and spare tyre, so was wearing a one piece, and my husband said, 'do you know what? I think you'd look better in a bikini - you look slimmer in your underwear than you do in that one-piece, it sort of stuffs you in like a sausage." Well, after I'd tried to find the compliment inside the weird comment, I kind of knew he was right. If I'm walking up to the pool bar or whatever, then I just put on a vest-T-shirt, but lounging I wear a bikini. Plus it's so much easier going for a wee, rather than pulling the cossie to one side, just pull down the bikini bottoms. And he's right - I do look less fat in one for some reason. And for context - I;m 62 and a size 16. (Plus, when I was 21 and a size 10 on holiday in Greece, I spent the whole time trying to hide and over up because I was "fat". Jeez, if I could go into a time machine, I'd go back then and tell my younger, much slimmer self 'enjoy yourself and stop fretting, no on is looking at you, and if they are - well, you're never going to see them again, so who cares?' Bikinis for all!!!

CasanovaFrankenstein · 06/08/2016 20:24

Find one that you are comfortable in both physically and psychologically - also if you are a bit self conscious have a spray tan - everything looks better tanned!

I never wore a bikini until I was into my 20s and I realised it was more convenient when you need a wee!!

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep · 06/08/2016 20:27

I am a size 10 with a pregnant looking stomach after my close tether singleton then twin pregnancies. I don't have mug boobage and my stomach looks like a road map of Britain . I had said I'd never wear a bikini again...But maybe I'll reconsider now! (Not that I have a hot holiday planned where this could be possible!)

Picoloangel · 06/08/2016 20:42

I have been a size 8/10 and super toned and then I had DD and got older...Now I'm not a remotely toned size 12. I am off on holiday in 2 weeks time and will be wearing a bikini. My philosophy has always been that there will always be people who look better than me and people who look worse. In other words it doesn't matter - no one knows you, wear your bikini and relax. Sod what everyone else thinks!

Member251061 · 06/08/2016 20:47

I think you should wear what you feel comfortable & confident in, what ever that may be.

babynugget · 06/08/2016 20:55

I am quite petite but feel bigger in a one piece swimsuit - they are so Unflattering. I have cellulite all over my thighs and stretch marks and loose skin on my belly, but I still feel more comfortable in a bikini and as other people have said I couldn't give a toss what anyone else thinks. Whatever size or shape you are there will always be other women who look so god damned perfect that you feel inadequate. There's really little point in comparing.

winkywinkola · 06/08/2016 21:00

In Spain, I've noticed nobody seems to give a stuff about what size you are at the beach. Just go and wear what you want. Sod it.

drrock · 06/08/2016 21:02

Apparently naked is the way to go judging by all the celebs. Become a naturist.

Thingamajiggy · 06/08/2016 21:08

Come to Italy! You'll see women of every shape and size wearing bikinis and as for the Caribbean, those women could teach us a thing or two about body confidence! We need to learn from black women because they usually feel good and look good whatever their size.

justilou · 06/08/2016 21:11

This just about sums up what everybody's saying!!!

Am i too fat to wear a bikini?
justilou · 06/08/2016 21:12

Everyone agrees that this is the best way to get a bikini-worthy body

CalleighDoodle · 06/08/2016 21:16

Nobody cares what people look like on the beach! Wear a bikini.

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 06/08/2016 21:28

justi Awesome! (I'm bottom row, second from the right)

HemanOrSheRa · 06/08/2016 21:38

I love these threads Grin. I've commented on this one up there somewhere ^. They just give me so much confidence and a reality check. I'm top row, third from the left Wink. Cheers just. That is ace!

donajimena · 06/08/2016 22:00

picolo you must! I'm very slender but I have a crepey stomach and it resembles an arse crack where the muscles parted. I agonised over a bikini that covered it and actually felt a bit frumpy in my big pants.
after a day on the beach in Spain I hunted down a skimpier bikini after realising that no one was looking at me anyway and my new bikini was more flattering even with my A - Z stomach! Smile

CarefullyAirbrushedPotato · 06/08/2016 22:23

Is there still a bra size intervention thread? If there is I reckon check that out (most ladies wear the wrong size, thanks M&S etc) and get yourself a bikini you really love and that gives you great support. If you feel good that's the best

If you need more boob support look for the fb group 'boob or bust'

BocaDeTrucha · 06/08/2016 23:14

I'm a size 14/16 and don't think twice about wearing a bikini. Where I live, no one gives a flying fuck about what size you are. No one looks at other women and thinks "she shouldn't be wearing that", except probably body conscious Brits. And here, going to the beach or pool is a national sport.

Really, go choose whichever one you like most and enjoy the freedom it brings. I have little skimpy ones and big 50's style high waisted ones and wear them all without any kind of worry. I don't have the most toned bod in the world and have a funny shaped thigh after a motorbike accident but I really just don't care. If you don't like it, don't look at me is what I think!!!!

mammmamia · 06/08/2016 23:23

I'm a size 8-10, tall with long toned limbs and pretty fit. I don't wear a bikini since I had twins and was left with separated stomach muscles which make me look a bit pregnant and a belly button that is totally messed up, plus wrinkled crepey skin. And my twins are 6 and it hasn't improved. I look good in most clothes but terrible in a bikini. I'd love to look like Morris.
I have TONS of tankinis and one pieces and I don't like any of them as much as I like the bikinis I used to wear.
I used to take along ten bikinis for a week's holiday and loved wearing different styles. I wish I could learn not to give a shit but I can't, knowing what I looked like before.
I wore this on holiday and loved it as it covered my belly button but exposed a bit of my tummy that looks ok

Super flattering

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 07/08/2016 07:59

I am planning to weara bikini on holiday this year for the firt time since I had my dc 20 years ago. I have always worn tankinis before due to my horrendously flabby stomach, with post-cesarean overhanf and hideous stretch marks, I've always thought that I couldn't wear a bikini until I'd lost the 2.5 stone of baby weight i gained.

Wel, I've finally lost the weight, and am now size 8/10 bottom half and a size 12/14 top half. However, I still have a very untoned stomach despite regular exercise, the caesarean overhang looks even worse now I've lost weight, an the stretch marks are still there. I am horribly self conscious of it BUT I know that no-one on the beach will be judging me. So I'm going to go for it. I think you should too.
