Flip flops

What is it with flip flops? the toe-post ones. Everyone round here wears them; I can't bear the bloody things. They hurt between my toes and make the front of my shins ache with the effort of trying to keep them on. My DD has been pestering me for some, bought her a pair today and she can't walk in the bloody things and her toes are all red, so clearly it isn't just me. So what is it, is there a technique or something? Or a pain threshold I have to get through? And why, anyway? Yucky feet on show and absolutely no support at all. Harrumph.

Try ones from fat face. I find them very comfortable. Crap tan lines though

cornishglos · 02/08/2016 21:00

I hardly wear any other footwear from March til October. My reasons are:

I hate wearing socks
I hate the 'trapped' feeling of shoes
Flipflops are comfy
They go with most outfits
They're easy to take on and off
I hate hot feet

Conrnishglos but they're just NOT comfy!! Not for me anyway! I am totally with you on the hot feet/trapped feeling, but I just cannot wear them.

Got Birkenstocks. Bloody love them.

You need to wear them in, then they are the most comfortable thing for your feet ever

HealthtAtEverySize · 02/08/2016 21:08

I decided to invest in some Havianhas this year and they were so comfy compared to other pairs i have had.

TroysMammy · 02/08/2016 21:14

I had a pair of sandals from Next which had a toe hole. So comfortable and much better than flip flops which I can't wear but I can't find them anywhere. However with the crappy weather we are having I'm in boots and flats and pop socks for work.

SistersOfPercy · 02/08/2016 21:16

I absolutely hate my Birkenstocks with a passion. Everyone raved about them and I found them to be the most uncomfortable things in the world.

My Iron Fist Zombie flip flips with fabric toe post however are fabulous

kelper · 02/08/2016 21:17

I've got some Crocs flip flops which I've had for 4 years and are the most comfortable things ever.
Wouldn't life be boring if we all liked the same things?

KC225 · 02/08/2016 21:22

Second the Havianhas. Never got flip flops before my Havianhas but they are so comfy. My first pair is on their third summer

littleshirleybeans · 02/08/2016 21:24

I've never been able to wear them either.
For the second year in a row, I've bought lovely avarcas from Menorca, they have a very small wedge heel so they're different from the usual ones.
They're very comfy and l don't get hard skin on my heels anymore.

PacificDogwod · 02/08/2016 21:25

Bearing in mind that a. I am ancient, b. I have never owned a pair of flip-flops until this year and c. I have loved Birkenstocks for decades, it surprised myself just how much I blood love my Havaianas that I got this year. I hardly took them off all summer, most comfortable things ever, even for sightseeing on holiday and gentle dog walking etc.
I hated FitFlops however...

stonecircle · 02/08/2016 21:28

Trick is to wear them in gradually. Wear a new pair for short spells around the house and build up the time before you go out in them. I wear crocs flip flops and sketchers flip flops at the moment. Both SO comfortable.

Happyinthehazeofadrunkenhour · 02/08/2016 21:29

I hate flip flops too but must admit to buying some fab sparkley 'fit flops' recently as they were just so comfy!

MissClarke86 · 02/08/2016 21:33

I agree. I can't abide anything that irritates my feet though, including flip flops, heels, and even ballet pumps (they either rub or fall off.)

I live in uggs, trainers or Birkenstocks!

SouthDownsSunshine · 02/08/2016 21:33

Cheap flip flops are the work of the devil. What you need are ones with a decent sole, a comfy (preferably fabric) toe bit, and a tight fit, no flapping loosely around. Then they are amazing and you'll never look back.

RebeccaCloud9 · 02/08/2016 21:34

The rubber flip flops made by Birkenstock are amazing, I live in them every Spring and Summer. Really good for your feet unlike some designs, and totally comfortable.

Mari50 · 02/08/2016 21:39

You need to break your feet into Birkenstocks, and after that they're ruined for any other footwear in the summer! I don't wear flip flops but I wear Birkenstocks with toe post, actually I live in them from April to sept, comfiest best sandals ever but I broke my feet to get used to them.

Muskateersmummy · 02/08/2016 21:39

I can't wear toe post one either! They are agony and leave me with massive blisters. I get the flat sandals instead which go across the foot and do up at the back

Flip flops
NashvilleQueen · 02/08/2016 21:42

I love flip flops. Prefer Ipanema/Haviana but can happily wear cheapo ones too. Can walk for miles. Love it when flip flop season comes around. Not as keen on Birkenstocks.

EarthboundMisfit · 02/08/2016 21:42

I've always had the issues you describe for a day or two, and then pure comfort.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 02/08/2016 21:43

I love flipflops, but have very wide feet and can't wear anything with fixed straps across the toes/wide part of foot. Birkenstocks are great too.

snowgirl1 · 02/08/2016 21:44

Fit flops are super comfy. I hate it when the weather gets colder and I have to put them away for winter.
