Flip flops

What is it with flip flops? the toe-post ones. Everyone round here wears them; I can't bear the bloody things. They hurt between my toes and make the front of my shins ache with the effort of trying to keep them on. My DD has been pestering me for some, bought her a pair today and she can't walk in the bloody things and her toes are all red, so clearly it isn't just me. So what is it, is there a technique or something? Or a pain threshold I have to get through? And why, anyway? Yucky feet on show and absolutely no support at all. Harrumph.

I Have Animal flip flops and they are very comfortable but only tend to wear them down the beach.

kaitlinktm · 02/08/2016 21:45

... but I have never been able to stop the toe posts from rubbing the bit between my toes raw - then I can't wear them until it heals which takes forever so I give up.

My ex wore/wears them all the time and just thought I was being silly. Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/08/2016 21:46

I think people have different feet! I love flip flops. People in Thailand climb trees in them FGS so they can't be that bad for everyone. I'm also currently in my office in them!

LottieDoubtie · 02/08/2016 21:49

You want reefs.

Trust me I'm a stranger on the Internet.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/08/2016 21:50

I loved my reefs. They dies after years. Sad

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 02/08/2016 21:53

I love being out of socks and shoes, but have the same bloody nightmare every summer: about a month of serious rubbing/blisters/pain and then just as I've worn the darned things in, they break. Sandals, flip-flops; doesn't matter. I wouldn't mind if I had baby soft, sensitive feet but my heels look like concrete!

BodsAuntieFlo · 02/08/2016 21:53

I can only wear toe post flip flops, I can't walk in any others. I do love my flip flops.

BluePitchFork · 02/08/2016 21:55

yanbu
flip flops are for the beach, they are not shoes. they are horrendous for posture.
and they look shit with whatever the wearer wears

SparklesandBangs · 02/08/2016 21:56

Toe posts I can do as long as they are leather or soft rubber, never cheap flip flops

So I love Havianas for around the house, pool & beach but can't walk far in them as they are too flat and unsupportive.
Birkenstocks were OK but the raised footbed gave me really dry cracked skin.
I have a pair of fit flops but I don't like then and I think they aggregate my back
I have crocs double comfort which are perfect for fit and support but don't look too good although I did wear them in the office today.

bertsdinner · 02/08/2016 22:00

Love flip flops and sandals, I love having almost bare feet. I got a pair of reduced ones from White Stuff that are still going strong 3 years later.

LockedOutOfMN · 02/08/2016 22:00

I like Reef ones and Havaianas but I only wear them on the beach / at the pool, in the gym showers and at home as "slippers" when it's too hot to wear socks (my winter form of "slippers"). I like shoes with toe posts (I have lots of pairs of sandals with toe posts), but hate the shoes (sandals) that have a bar running over the toes from side to side; they always give me blisters and my feet slide around.

Jessbow · 02/08/2016 22:02

Bought a pair of mens ones, thicker soles, wider straps..... sew buttons on to decorate.

BluePitchFork · 02/08/2016 22:08

I want to nominate thin soled nasty cheap ballerinas to the non-shoe room 101

HealthtAtEverySize · 02/08/2016 22:08

Sorry my spelling was way out. I just say it how it sounds Lol

CoolCarrie · 02/08/2016 22:22

Couldn't stand flip flops either' very uncomfortable, couldn't bear the rubbing, but tried a pair of FitFlops and loved those! I ended up with 3 pairs in different colours, and dm is a convert to them as well.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/08/2016 22:27

I can only wear flip flops when walking at slow holiday pace. Any time I try to walk at my normal marching around in a rush speed, I get blisters.

Love my Havaianas and Ipanemas. I take 2 pairs on holiday and travel in converse and that's all the shoes I take - plain black flip flops are smart enough for anywhere I go on holiday.

I might manage with one pair but am traumatised by the time that one of DPs broke 2 days into a week on holiday and he had to wear his trainers for the rest of the week - he wasn't that bothered that he'd go looking for new ones and he wouldn't buy anything except Havaianas anyway.

BolshierAryaStark · 02/08/2016 22:27

Oh I love my flip flops, virtually live in them from spring to autumn , I don't have branded/expensive ones either but find them incredibly comfy. My toys come out of the pram when it gets too cold to wear them & I have to switch back to boots.

honeylulu · 02/08/2016 22:30

Have you tried Fit Flops? They are pricey but amazing! They are structured so great for posture. So comfy I even drive in them. Even my mum (who is a podiatrist) approves.
Have just been to a festival (camping) for three days and wore them rain and shine!
Wore them all my maternity leave and the thing I most worried about re going back to work was having to wear "real shoes" again.

AnotherPrickInTheWall · 02/08/2016 22:41

I wear old Birkenstocks around the house. Pay about £20 for them at TK Max . They are ugly but better value than flip flops in the long run ,and comfier too.

TeaRexit · 02/08/2016 22:44

Whaaaaaaat. Doesnt everyone wear flip flops. Im never out of mine apart from work & bed

cannotlogin · 02/08/2016 22:48

I used to feel the same way, OP. Couldn't understand it. Then I took a punt on a pair by Sketchers from QVC and have worn them all summer for two years - this is year 3 and we are still going strong.

cornishglos · 02/08/2016 22:49

I only wear Havaianas too. One pair lasts 5 years (but I need a few colours!)

Don't all flipflops have toe posts??

helenlove · 02/08/2016 22:50

I love flip flops and would wear them every day if I could. I spent a whole summer volunteering in Mexico when I was younger wearing a pair of flip flops that came free with a magazine.

I broke my toe 4 weeks ago and if it wasn't for flip flops I would be In a pickle...

Bloopbleep · 02/08/2016 22:50

I hate flip flops. I get their attraction re cool in summer but they're so ugly and your gnarly toes with the fungal toenails and cracked heels are just screaming "look at me...dagnamit STARE ST ME" - and they hurt...and they never want to stay on... And Birkenstocks are equally as ugly and uncomfortable.
I hate feet

Aeroflotgirl · 02/08/2016 22:54

Get Fitflops, they are so comfy and stylish.
