In our case its a pack of toilet rolls. Don't ask me why but we always take some with us whenever we are going away, even just for a weekend. No history of ever running out of them anywhere but just can't leave home without a back up supply Smile

Microfibre towels for the beach, they fold very small, are lightweight, very absorbent and dry really quickly. Because they are light you can wash them easily by hand if they get too grubby/sticky with sun lotion etc. Brilliant to take on boat trips where there is a swim stop. We usually take two each, and only one ordinary beach towel to put on the sun lounger.

Good god- where do you all go on holiday. I pretty much travel the world and have never needed any of these items.

Other than a passport the only thing I can think that you would need is a credit card/cash.

TheHatOfDoom · 29/07/2016 13:50

The charger for my electric wheelchair, my phone (in case my chair breaks and I get stranded) and my debit card are my three can't go away without. And I rarely go for a big day out without them either in case there's some major problem with the trains and I can't go home.

stealthsquiggle · 29/07/2016 13:59

This time, very little beyond the passport-phone-money-prescription meds essentials, I hope - as we will have a car, be self catering, and be in easy reach of lots of shops.

It makes a change from the last few years which have been resorts on islands - so everything is $$$ with no shopping choices. Then I have ordered industrial amounts of insect repellent and sun cream and packed a full medical kit.

I cannot recall packing loo paper since we used to go camping when I was a child. Then we packed bloody everything.

Footyfan16 · 29/07/2016 14:06

Erm my passport checks bag for the four hundredth time

littlepooch · 29/07/2016 14:20

Teabags, sweetex and marmite. I refuse to live without these.
And painkillers.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 29/07/2016 14:35

Earplugs everywhere I go, even just for one night. I'm such a light sleeper.

OldJoseph · 29/07/2016 16:37

sadie9 Where do you buy Motilium? I don't think you can buy it in the UK anymore unfortunately.

vladthedisorganised · 29/07/2016 19:19

A sarong. Doubles as a beach towel, changing room for DC, pillow, head covering and cover for dubious-looking mattresses in hostels where required.

GirlOverboard · 29/07/2016 19:36

My iPod.

Pebbles16 · 29/07/2016 19:44

Kindle. If all else goes to pot, I can read myself to happiness.

FarAwayHills · 29/07/2016 19:44

Tea bags

cjbk1 · 29/07/2016 20:16

FWIW; I usually go on holiday in UK or ROI but my migraines go from 0-10 so fast I'd be stupid to leave the house without my meds and tiny bottle of water post check in if flying

Cleanermaidcook · 29/07/2016 20:23

Camera and a pack of playing cards

Joelandalice · 30/07/2016 21:55

Has anyone tried children learning reading by Jim Yang programme? I'm wondering whether it's worth to purchase.

ParadiseCity · 01/08/2016 13:11

I travel a fair bit and always take a really cheap scarf/pashmina type thing.

Its good for:
when you're a bit chilly
when the train headrest is a bit grubby
to fold up as a travel pillow
to use as a headscarf in drizzle/wind
if your hotel room has a really horrible picture on the wall that you want to cover up
lending to a child who has forgotten their teddy

OhSoggyBiscuit · 01/08/2016 13:37

Imodium.

dingit · 01/08/2016 13:40

iPad. On it now, on holiday Smile

practy · 02/08/2016 13:05

KC225 do you just pack a case load of dental floss?

If all else fails, I guess you could crochet with it to relieve the boredom Grin

minipie · 02/08/2016 13:21

Without DC:

  • Passport
  • A few clothes
  • Piece of cloth that can do as a sarong/scarf/towel (as Paradise says)
  • Nurofen

With DC:

  • The World
  • The Kitchen Sink
  • Entire Contents of Mothercare
  • Nurofen

Self catering in UK : sharp knife (and from now on, a sieve...)

Self catering abroad: tea bags

Hotel abroad: travel kettle and aforementioned tea bags

Hotel in UK: a very flexible credit card (usually DH's!)

PageStillNotFound404 · 03/08/2016 07:51

If staying in a hotel - earplugs to block out DH's snoring.

If self-catering - a corkscrew, just in case (having once had to force my way into our bottle of wine using the steel for the kitchen knives. Who has a sharpening steel but no corkscrew, FFS?)

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2016 08:04

Piriton

Baby wipes

In fact I usually take both of these with me everywhere.
