In our case its a pack of toilet rolls. Don't ask me why but we always take some with us whenever we are going away, even just for a weekend. No history of ever running out of them anywhere but just can't leave home without a back up supply Smile

Scented candle. We always go self catering so to get rid of that alien, someone's been here before us smell I light the candle as soon as we get into the accomodation.

Actually just thought of something Im going to take the next time that I didnt in Italy 2 years ago - Pirition, would have cost £1 here in the UK, I had to pay about 14 euros for them after I was attacked by the mozzies, had over 50 bites on each leg and a few on my eyelid to!

Credit card, swimming costume/ underwear decent enough to swim in (even if going hill walking you never now when you may get a chance to swim). But i do always have these things in my bag/car so not sure it counts.
One thing I take on holiday but don't carry with me always is the bible. Your not going to run out of reading material. And a good place to hide money in hotel rooms.

NotSoFancyHanky · 28/07/2016 19:35

Earplugs and lip balm.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/07/2016 20:11

A coffee machine LBOC because I am on holiday and I like a decent coffee to start my day. It's not like we are packing it in our suitcase and flying long haulWink It gets shoved in the back of our large car along with most of the rest of our house!

Not sure why, but when I was little, my DM always used to pack several packs of butter in her suitcase (frozen so they lasted the journey), because, you know, they don't have butter in Spain Confused. I assume that there were no restrictions on luggage weight then like there is now.

LBOCS2 · 28/07/2016 22:08

Why not just take a cafetière?! Takes up less room, surely!

bertsdinner · 28/07/2016 22:13

Coathangers, there are never enough.
Travel kettle if in hotel room with no "tea and making making facilities".
Kindle sounded like the answer to my prayers, but I've found myself going back to books on holiday. They get battered about, covered in sand, suncream, etc, shoved in bags. I left my books at a little Greek taverna that did a "book share", at the end of my holiday.
