I've just seen a competition down the side of the page on here for a 'Portable Soother Steriliser'. Unless your baby is immunocompromised, don't most parents just give a dropped dummy a quick suck to remove any grit and then hand it back to their DC?

Meh. I always picked it up and sucked the dummy. Life's too short to worry about germs on a dummy but other parents want to steralise it and it should be their choice.

I tend to have two in rotation - one to use during the day (quick suck to remove carpet fluff/grit etc if dropped) then sterilise overnight, another that lives in the cot at night and sterilise during the day. As long as they're getting a proper clean regularly I don't see the issue.

I think it depends on where it was dropped and age of baby. I always took spares with caps on when she was tiny, a dropped one would go back in the bag for sterilising. As she got bigger, if dropped indoors I might give it a wipe and rinse before giving back but if its dropped outdoors I wouldn't give it back without s proper clean.

When she was tiny I used to just run it under hot water. But as she got bigger I just used to suck it clean.

I can handle it. My DC only had a dummy for a couple of weeks and just decided he didn't like it and kept spitting it out so I didn't bother giving it to him anymore. TBF, at that young age and as my PFB, I wouldn't have done that but I'm positive I eventually would have. Seen loads of other people doing it though.

Well, I have heard that your mouth carries more germs than the floor so you shouldn't do it.

But, I also know that parents have been doing it for years and most babies have survived so, meh.

I tend to sterilise over night and have a slate but have been known to put in my mouth or run under a tap.

He sticks his hands in his mouth and they're definitely not sterile so I'm not too worried.

I run it under water. I'm pretty sure adults' mouths are pretty disgusting.

Would you do it if it fell on the road/footpath, or just in the house? I think that makes a difference.

I stopped sterilising them when DS was around 5months. I just give it a quick wipe with a water-wipe or damp tissue. Not keen on sucking it myself when it's been on the floor!

I would only ever do it In the house. Nowhere else.

used to use a baby wipe when out and about, wash at home, pavement, your mouth bay's mouth, that's rank.
