WWYD car parked on our drive

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

I just went through something very similar - someone parked for weeks in my parking spot at my flat. When it comes to getting the car towed the law is very much on their side - any damage to the car and you're liable. However, you can charge rent for the time they're in your space, and the daily rate can be... well... Whatever you want it to be Wink

DailyMailResearcher · 19/07/2016 23:15

Parking my self right here Grin

thenightmanageress · 19/07/2016 23:15

Parking myself on this thread shamelessly

Can't wait to see how this pans out.

CrazyDuchess · 19/07/2016 23:17

another blatant placemark Grin

PeppasNanna · 19/07/2016 23:18

FPO112 idea of charging sounds good!

RebootYourEngine · 19/07/2016 23:19

When/if they come back tonight please do not let them move the car. It is so rude to think that parking on someones drive is ok.

MargaretCavendish · 19/07/2016 23:20

My neighbour used to put comes out to reserve his space - they had young kids and it wasn't fun or feasible to lug them and the shopping from a mile or more away. Often people attending the match moved the cones and poked anyway. They always came back to at least 2 flat tires - not punctured, just air let out.

Well, your neighbour was an absolute twat wasn't he?

CommanderShepard · 19/07/2016 23:20

Blocketty block!

I'd be wedging some nails under the tyres, personally.

sallyjane40 · 19/07/2016 23:28

Quite wordy, but some useful advice here:
www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q441.htm

Basically, blocking it in could be seen as an offence :-/ (hard to believe, I know!)

FuckingMother · 19/07/2016 23:29

Yes place marking but also massive sympathies. We have people regularly block our drive both sides by parking over our white line and dropped curb. When both do it we can't get out or in. I call and get them ticketed. Too chicken to get towed. pisses me off as our curb is 2/3 size of everyone else's as we used to have a street light in front of house which has long since gone. But our dropped curb is too small to be practical. To make it the same as evryone else we would have to pay £1000+.

If anyone knows how we can challenge this is would be great! We are near a tube so get chancers parking there all the time. I was verbally abused by a district nurse once as she got a ticket. I didn't know she was a nurse. She was there for hours. I couldn't get out. She came to our house and berated a traffic warden and when on at me aggressively. I was depressed at the time so upset and anxious about it. Now I would report her to her primary care trust.😡

Spadequeen · 19/07/2016 23:29

Block them in and go out and do something nice all day tomorrow

LittleReindeerwithcloggson · 19/07/2016 23:29

Parking too! Intrigued by this (I need to get out more)

GertrudeSmellsDivine · 19/07/2016 23:29

Blatant place marking.

PovertyPain · 19/07/2016 23:30

Put up a makeshift birdhouse or four as close to the car as you can get and put loads of seeds, bacon rind, etc on it. Pity the car is liable to be covered in bird poo in the morning. Not your fault they parked so close to the bird houses. Cut the top of a bottle and shove it onto a broom handle or stick and you should be able to make a nice wee feeding station. Renember to throw an old sheet over your car.

FuckingMother · 19/07/2016 23:30

Oh. Sorry for all spelling mistakes. Not been at gin. Just thought I was a good typist and didn't need to preview 😳

IJustAteTheKidsFoodAgain · 19/07/2016 23:31

if it's a genuine mistake they need blocking so they realise and don't make it again. I hope if you've blocked them in they are deeply inconvenienced and late for something semi important, but not childbirth or a funeral etc.

CotswoldStrife · 19/07/2016 23:32

The entitlement of some people is unbelievable. Where we live is near a business park, and our whole estate is a bloody car park during the day.

Because of the poor parking, we have parking restrictions in front of our houses - some houses have private parking spaces at the back. Neighbours have come out in the morning to find someone trying to squeeze themselves into a gap in the private parking because 'if I don't park here I'll be late for work' as if that was the householder's problem!

I do think the Police should be able to take action or ticket them, otherwise there is no incentive not to park like a prat again. On the drive is just inexcusable.
