WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

Cut the handbrake cables and let it roll into the street...

hollinhurst84 · 19/07/2016 22:42

I can lend you my cat? I have idiots that use my parking space. Cat was asleep in it this week and they tried to drive in. He rolled over, yawned and did a "not my human, not my problem" and went back to sleep
They weren't happy Grin (I was laughing so much my stomach hurt)

AtSea1979 · 19/07/2016 22:42

Marking place Grin

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/07/2016 22:42

We used to have allocated parking on a new build estate. Someone would park in our bay as it was nice and tucked away. I was too much of a wimp but DH did block them in and 'have words' when they had to knock to ask him to move. Didn't happen again.

Another neighbour used to get really cross if anyone parked outside her house as it 'ruined the view' but that was part of the road, so anyone could park there.

In fact, parking on that whole estate was a nightmare, people took it very personally.

torthecatlady · 19/07/2016 22:43

How much does it cost to tow a car? Can we split it? Wink

rollonthesummer · 19/07/2016 22:43

I'm fuming on your behalf!

StarryIllusion · 19/07/2016 22:43

Frankly op I would be having it towed away and telling them to bill the owner of the car. Even if they didn't pay it, it would be worth the cost to me to piss them off so much. If I had a vehicle large enough and some means of lifting the front wheels, I'd tow the bastard myself. and forgetting where I left it

PuraVida · 19/07/2016 22:43

We had this but it turned out that no 14 round the corner had told work mate to park on their drive. Driver got wrong street. I couldn't be too angry it was an honest mistake

Paniniswapx3 · 19/07/2016 22:44

Is it still there Op? Definitely block it in - I wouldn't think twice.

Foffyouwanker · 19/07/2016 22:45

Cheeky bugger! Not place marking at all me....,

nannylife · 19/07/2016 22:45

op I know where you are 😀😀 I won't give anything away of course. but have seen this on facebook. And from the picture they are definitely out of order! Hope you get it sorted

mummyto2monkeys · 19/07/2016 22:46

Cheeky sods! I would not be happy if this happened on our drive! I second knocking on doors and asking if anyone knows who the car parked in your drive belongs to . I use a wheelchair and depending on the size of the car, could potentially be blocked inside my house if someone parked on our drive. I have a friend who is disabled, she had her own disabled parking outside her house, she had a cheeky sod park in her bay and fly off on holiday for the week. My friend was pretty much stuck inside, she really struggled walking to her car in her bay, but had to park a good distance away thanks to the selfish twats who parked in her bay. It turned out they didn't want to pay airport parking, so chose friends bay which was relatively close to the airport.

IamNotDarling · 19/07/2016 22:46

Parking myself up for the outcome.

rollonthesummer · 19/07/2016 22:47

I think I must be very odd because if it wasn't causing us any inconvenience or blocking us in my reaction would probably be to be mildly bemused.

If you returned home and couldn't get on your drive or park anywhere nearby because someone was on your drive, would you be irritated?

Waltermittythesequel · 19/07/2016 22:47

I'm assuming you have checked for keys as suggested loads? Because you haven't said.

I wouldn't be leaving a number for them to call. It's not like they don't know where you live!

I also wouldn't answer the door until the morning (at the earliest).

MummyBex1985 · 19/07/2016 22:47

I'd block them in and also probably cause some accidental damage when nobody was looking....

People regularly block our drive due to the odd layout of our estate, but it's always the same house (well their friends) so it's easily solved.

I'd go batshit if a random stranger parked up on my sodding land though!!

TyneTeas · 19/07/2016 22:49

Can you set up a premium rate number for them to call Grin

OhStacey · 19/07/2016 22:50

Sorry for you but happy for a parking thread Wink

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 19/07/2016 22:50

I found someone parked on my drive when I got back from hospital after giving birth to DD. And because it's a cauldesac there's no blocking people in option. I was absolutely fuming (after a 106 hour Labour and no sleep though I was too tired to do anything). It's done it again a few times and my notes have become progressively less polite. It has finally stopped now though. Asshats, the lot of them!!

eternalopt · 19/07/2016 22:52

Blatant place marking. Gutted the OP has probably gone to bed as she said she was going to and we have to wait until the morning for an update!

expatinscotland · 19/07/2016 22:53

I'd probably block it in.

Pineau · 19/07/2016 22:53

I'd order a ton of sand or gravel to be delivered in the morning if they are still there.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/07/2016 22:54

now don't block me in OP Grin

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 22:55

Mn ate one of my previous posts!
Car still bloody there.
No keys anywhere to be found.

Unlikely to be a mistake as the only other driveway on our or the two neighbouring streets are next door, and we've asked them. It's very unusual to have driveways here, I'm not totally sure why our two houses freak exceptions.

littlepooch · 19/07/2016 22:56

Id block it in. I wouldn't leave my Number or anything. They'd have to wait until I was ready to move my car in my own time.

Love the airport idea btw lol
