WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

Blatantly place marking. :)

Incognita82 · 19/07/2016 22:30

Don't think there is anything wrong with parking across the drive either . Obviously you would have parked on your own drive if you had been able to.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/07/2016 22:30

Can you get emergency penguin bollards installed? No?

Then block it in.

Nicknacky · 19/07/2016 22:31

Aprilanne, I'm well aware of Scots Law and that we don't have trespass in Scotland. The Op would be committing no offence is she was in Scotland (I'm not versed in English law but can't see it being much different).

It is an offenc to prevent a vehicle leaving a property and joining a highway however this really won't apply to a random car parked on private property.

WoahSlowDown · 19/07/2016 22:31

I bet it's just a mistake rather than a cheeker fecker.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 19/07/2016 22:32

Surely it must be a mistake.

PovertyPain · 19/07/2016 22:32

If the police can't do anything about it, because it's on private land and you can park ON your driveway, then I doubt the you'll be in any rush to arrest you OP. Anyway, if they do come out, chances are they'll give the driver a bollocking, as they've been the cause of using police time for a purely unavoidable incident. That would make it worth it.

Graceflorrick · 19/07/2016 22:32

Have they come back for their car yet OP?

almamatters · 19/07/2016 22:34

Actually can't believe the cheek of this! Id be raging!

PovertyPain · 19/07/2016 22:34

I haven't blocked someone in on my drive before now and I got the bus to work - oh no not me.

You can't throw that out there and not tell us the story. We need some entertainment while waiting for twat driver to come back.

chocomochi · 19/07/2016 22:35

Place marking!

Block the car and when they knock, tell them you can't move the car as it's not your car or you don't drive and your DP is away.

WaitrosePigeon · 19/07/2016 22:35

Bloody love a car parking thread

Incognita82 · 19/07/2016 22:35

I live near a football stadium and this has happened to me a few times. Normally I block them in and leave a note on my windscreen saying that the charge for parking on the drive is £20 and please have this ready when they come and collect the car.

All four of them so far have paid up. I'm really nice to them when they knock on the door and make out I think they were a booking from Parkonmydrive - ask them did they find it though the website, was it a good match etc. Have even had a couple attempt a repeat booking. I need to put my prices up!

catchthetide · 19/07/2016 22:36

How rude are some people?! Crazy.

On your actual drive? Must be a mistake surely??

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 19/07/2016 22:39

My neighbour used to put comes out to reserve his space

Often people attending the match moved the cones and poked anyway. They always came back to at least 2 flat tires - not punctured, just air let out.
People who put cones out because they think they own the road outside their house are knobs; people are perfectly entitled to move the cones to park. Letting down the tyres of legally parked cars is a twatty thing to do.

mineallmine · 19/07/2016 22:39

Two cars parked on my neighbour's drive one Sunday while she was gone out for the afternoon. We live close to a football ground and there was a big match on and there was no parking on the road available. Apparantly, a kid sitting on a wall told the two drivers that they were gone for the day. When she came home, she parked in behind them so they couldn't get out the gate. She phoned the Gardaí (police) buut they said it was private property, they couldn't do anything but they were sympathetic.

When the match was over, the two drivers knocked on her door asking to be let go. She charged them the equivalent of the clamping fee to get out of the driveway. One of the drivers phoned the Gardaí who came to the house and told them that she could charge them whatever she wanted, they'd parked on private property.

So they paid up!

Love to know how this ends 😀😀

Place marking...

BristolLFR · 19/07/2016 22:40

Can't wait to see what happens with this...

DailyMaui · 19/07/2016 22:40

I have also blocked an arsehole twat parking space stealer and gone to work - I do long days in London. It was very satisfying. The police came to my house the following morning - and they were laughing. The driver had apparently "just popped to the market for half an hour, didn't see the harm" 😃

I had two ladies just the other week try to park there - two fucking cars - because they were "going to yoga" as if that absolved them of all fuckwittery. However suddenly they weren't going to yoga when I told them they'd be saluting the sun for the whole 12 hours I was at work in London as I had to park and the only parking was right in front of their cars, which were parked in my fucking space.

I live almost in the centre of the town. It's amazing the lengths some people will go to save a couple of quid. Christmas time is particularly bad.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/07/2016 22:41

I think I must be very odd because if it wasn't causing us any inconvenience or blocking us in my reaction would probably be to be mildly bemused.

Have they been back then op? Grin

wheresthel1ght · 19/07/2016 22:41

Incognito that is bloody brilliant.
