WWYD car parked on our drive

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

Yes to the skip! Leave skip company number on car with details of how much it will cost to have it collected!

Donthate · 19/07/2016 22:11

The airport carpark idea is genius.

Cheeky buggers

FeelingSmurfy · 19/07/2016 22:12

I would move your car in case they come back after you have gone to bed and wake you all up, unfortunately the police won't help you but if you park in front of your drive they will help the asshat! Angry

We went on holidays for 2 weeks to Greece and left our car at the garage having an MOT. As the garage is just around the corner they offered to return it to our drive. A few days later we had a phone call from the police to say our car was parked on a neighbours drive! So please bear in mind this could be a genuine mistake! Having said that the police could easily get in touch with the owners if they wanted.

Remove number, disable door bell, block them in.

Ignore the fuckers.

gallicgirl · 19/07/2016 22:13

How on earth does anyone think it's acceptable to park on a stranger's drive?
I have form for knocking on the wrong door but parking on the wrong drive is a whole different ball game.

TheUnsullied · 19/07/2016 22:14

I've got the popcorn!

I'd definitely block them. The legalities wouldn't cross my mind.

Lunar1 · 19/07/2016 22:15

I'm happy to chip in for a skip!

FeralBeryl · 19/07/2016 22:15

Right. We need more information, how many houses in your road?
Anyone from round the corner etc?

Could someone have been told to park on old uncle Nobby's driveway while he's on holiday, but he lives in the same numbered house but the next street?

I've come home to a strange car on ours ( but I'd forgotten I'd drunkenly offered a space to a vague acquaintence whilst they flew from the local airport for a mini break)

facepalming · 19/07/2016 22:16

How Is parking on the wrong drive a mistake? Confused

How does anybody look at a drive and think oh this is the one then walk to wherever they are going?

No mistake some people are just bloody rude

ForTheLoveOfSocks · 19/07/2016 22:18

Have it towed away? It's on private land so surely your within your rights to?

user7755 · 19/07/2016 22:18

I think we should start a # for this very situation. Take photos and get them trending with the hashtag #getoffmyland

PovertyPain · 19/07/2016 22:18

It would be an awful shame if you couldn't move your car as it had a battery lead removed failed to restart, when you tried to move it. Of course you would have to put a note on their window apologising for any inconvenience caused to them, but unfortunately your mechanic can't come out until tomorrow. Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Wink

StarryIllusion · 19/07/2016 22:18

If you own the land can you not legally have it towed? It is on private property and the car owner is trespassing surely?

aprilanne · 19/07/2016 22:19

if you in scotland what they are doing is legal because different tresspass laws here .but if you block them in you could be arrested .the only reason i know this my uncle a police officer and told my mum .bloody infurating but true dont know about england .if you damage or tow the car you would be in big trouble

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 22:20

There's only one other drive on the street, my next door neighbour, and it's not them, we've knocked and asked.

There's 32 houses on the street.

There is an outdoor event taking place about 10 mins walk away this weekend, and crews have been around today setting up security fencing etc. I'm wondering if it's to do with that.

Pearlman, can you provide us with a link or what offence the OP would be committing if she blocked them in?
