WWYD car parked on our drive

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

Block it. If no one claims it get a scrappy to come and collect it.

DonkeyHotay · 20/07/2016 17:41

How annoying! What cheeky feckers they are. Angry

chocolateworshipper · 20/07/2016 17:44

Best thread for a long time

JoanneNewton · 20/07/2016 17:46

I'd leave a serious note! You might not see who it is if they come an collect it, you could be at the shops or upstairs

GirlOutNumbered · 20/07/2016 17:53

Gutted to get to the end and have no answer!
Now place marking.

Shameful place marking! 🚗

Galdos · 20/07/2016 18:03

I haven't read the whole thread, but there are companies aiming to put together people wanting to park and people with off road parking available. It's a business proposition - renting out your front drive. (Some local authorities are a bit sticky about it though, claiming it breaches planning restrictions.) The point is that this is now a recognised money earning possibility, and this may change the legal perspective on whether you can demand a 'ransom' charge to let them go (generally not, unless clear advance warnings etc; this doesn't stop you suing for damages for trespass, but this is a palaver).

Mamalicious16 · 20/07/2016 18:09

There MUST be an update soon .......

Giraffewith2 · 20/07/2016 18:11

Hope you catch them moving their car again!

Banana99 · 20/07/2016 18:13

I searched for the thread to see the outcome - parking threads never live up to my expectations no one ever puts dog poo under the handles

What a cheeky sod waiting for you to go out & moving it so its legal 😡

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 20/07/2016 18:14

I wish you could follow them home and park on their drive..,

Ghodavies · 20/07/2016 18:14

Love it saggynaggy!!!!
Check for keys being left with it in case it's a genuine mistake.
Failing that remove ur number, disconnect bell, block them in and let their tyres down - cheeky !!!!!!!!!

tinglyfing · 20/07/2016 18:15

Wish this would get sorted. I'm trying to watch Making A Murderer.

JakeBallardswife · 20/07/2016 18:17

ooh, how frustrating for you and everyone else on this thread. So now you need volunteers to stalk the car that was on the drive and wait for the driver to turn up again. However I would think that if they saw you go out they are clearly local?

freetrampolineforall · 20/07/2016 18:21

Those nails and screws, not only does the odd one turn up on your drive with alarming regularity they also turn up on the road. It's such a pain. Thank goodness you are really alert and do all you can to watch out for them.

chocolateworshipper · 20/07/2016 18:30

I'm sure there are plenty of volunteers here who would happily stand guard around the car until the people get back (small issue of whether any of us live near you - but never mind about the detail)

SouthernComforts · 20/07/2016 18:32

Glad it's been moved, can't believe the cheeky feckers have just parked up on the road though!

If it happens again I would block them in, then when they knock on your door just claim it's not your car and you are fuming that there are TWO dick head parkers in the area.

Memoires · 20/07/2016 18:32

We get people parking in our front yard, it looks like a car park for 2 cars, so people often just use it. Even when there are already 2 cars parked on it (ours and tenant's) some people think they'll just sling their car along the back of ours or across the entrance. The parking police said that if we couldn't get our car in then the other car could be towed, but if they blocked us in, we were out of luck.

One guy claimed his uncle had told him he could park there any time. We don't know his uncle...

dotdotdotmustdash · 20/07/2016 18:45

The parking police said that if we couldn't get our car in then the other car could be towed, but if they blocked us in, we were out of luck.

Isn't it the opposite? As I understand it, if your car is blocked in and you're prevented from accessing the highway the police will tow it, but if you're prevented from getting onto your land they won't.

AuntJane · 20/07/2016 18:50

Parking myself here in this thread to see what happens.

Marsaday · 20/07/2016 18:54

The car is still parked on the street.
But I've fixed my washing machine and cooked dinnerGrin

Shame you don't have cctv OP.

dowhatnow · 20/07/2016 18:59

What is the point of a bucket of soapy water being recommended. Surely you are doing them a favour and washing it for them Confused
