WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

Marking place. I'd love to hear the drivers excuses!Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 20/07/2016 19:15

Sorry, shameless place mark!

GabsAlot · 20/07/2016 19:15

Isn't it the opposite? As I understand it, if your car is blocked in and you're prevented from accessing the highway the police will tow it, but if you're prevented from getting onto your land they won't."

definitely this way round-my sister had someone block her was jsut about to call police when they turned up was at the school of course

TheWitchesofIzalith · 20/07/2016 19:16

Placemarking. Am simultaneously glad that car has moved so OP has her drive back, and annoyed that the fuckwit driver has moved car by stealth, depriving us of further entertainment.

peachypips · 20/07/2016 19:20

Ok, I really need to know the reason they parked there now!

NatalieRushman · 20/07/2016 19:28

Gosh, it's been a while since we've had such a good parking thread. The suspense of not knowing who the twat is is killing me.

SecretlycrushingonTomHanks · 20/07/2016 19:34

Blatantly place marking here BrewChocolate

Stopyourhavering · 20/07/2016 19:36

No news?

Masketti · 20/07/2016 19:47

rightknockered in my area it's £150 Inc VAT per kerb stone plus £75 council fee to extend an existing dropped kerb. So just by doing one long bit and one up bit it cost £300.

Marsaday · 20/07/2016 19:48

I must admit I'm a bit bemused that so many people have got quite excited about an idiot parking on my drive.
Maybe the daily fail should print it Grin

I reckon we could set up a shift rota to keep watch, we're all that invested. I can't believe they're still there but anyway, glad the washer is sorted and how was your dinner OP?

99percentchocolate · 20/07/2016 19:52

Incredibly annoying! Before we moved we had a neighbour who once asked if a guest of theirs could park on our driveway as we had room and theirs was full. We weren't going out so said yes. They then asked another time and we again said yes as we weren't going out.
From then on neighbour didn't bother to ask and steadily got worse and worse, treating our driveway as an extension of their own. We were blocked in so many times, it used to drive me crazy but DP just shrugged his shoulders as they always moved when asked and apologised.
Until one Saturday morning we went out and when we came home neighbour himself was parked on our drive. We parked behind and waited for him to knock to move our car. He never knocked - he had gone away for the weekend in the second family car! Their drive was left empty so I've no idea why he parked on ours.
He came back mid afternoon Sunday but still didn't knock. He waited until DP popped out in the car for 15 minutes on the Sunday night and moved it then. He didn't ever ask or apologise for using our drive all weekend. We'd had guests who hadn't been able to park on our drive either - it was incredibly irritating.

I like Wowfudges suggested message

"As you had the brass neck to park on our drive without asking, I would have thought you might have the guts to apologise and not just wait for us to go out so you could move it unseen. Disappointing. Please do not park on or across our drive."

Firsttimer82 · 20/07/2016 20:14

Block it and then pretend to be out, Let us know what happens!

I am outraged at the car Parker but have just remembered the time I text a friend apologising because I was late for an appointment and couldn't park anywhere near so had parked in her driveway and would move asap knowing she was at a hospital appointment. It was a close friend who I see on a minimum weekly basis. For some reason it still came as a surprise when she replied that as her car was in her space outside her house, was it possible I was parked in the wrong space. It was, I had parked in front of a house she had lived in six months previously on the other side of town, sometimes people do really stupid things.

Idontneedanotherhero · 20/07/2016 21:03

I can't believe I've read this whooooole thread and we still don't know who the Parker is!!

loobyloo1234 · 20/07/2016 21:18

I'm shamelessly still going to park on here to see if we ever find out who the selfish driver is.

OP - have you taken photo's of the car yet? I would wait until it's a little darker, turn my flash on my phone and snap away. So it looks like you're likely to do something ... even if you aren't. If it is something to do with a neighbour, maybe they'll think twice after seeing that

Im sorry to all the do gooders aswell, but I'd definitely post a note asking them to refrain parking on the drive ever again (evil grin Wink )

Serenitymummy · 20/07/2016 22:03

I'm in

Memoires · 20/07/2016 22:23

I would demand flowers and chocolates, and possibly a bottle of expensive wine, if you ever find out who the driver is.
