WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

I'm suggesting that OP park adjacent to her dropped kerb, to stop the offending parking knob from parking there in future

NellyMelly · 20/07/2016 14:39

This car driver has zero respect for you. Put a note on the car with a parking charge for your drive on it - for charity and see if they donate the money to the cause you support.

rightknockered · 20/07/2016 14:40

I've been where OP is.
I foresee a parking war.

LizB62A · 20/07/2016 14:46

Where I live, if any part of the car is overhanging my dropped kerb, the local council will ticket them if I let them know. I just needed to register for their Dropped Kerb Enforcement Scheme which I could do online. I found this out one day when I was really really pissed off at not being able to get in or out of my drive yet again. They usually send someone out on a moped within about 30 mins. I've only had to use it a few times but it does deter people.

Does your local council have anything like this in their Parking Enforcement department?

We ended up having to have residents parking as we had people leaving their cars here then getting a taxi to the airport for a week's holiday....

I cannot believe some people, parking on someone's drive. GRRR!

We have this every day - Junior School on end of St and Primary the other. Parents who insist on arriving 45 mins before school opens and sitting in their car across our drive.

I now park one of our cars across our drive, but if DF is away I will go out with a bucket of soapy water and deliberately miss my car when pretending to clean it. I get abuse but I just say sorry don't block our drive in then....no longer have the patience to be polite to these inconsiderate wankers

Rowanhart · 20/07/2016 14:57

I would most definitely be letting the air out of the tyres now. They need some form of punishment.

Inertia · 20/07/2016 14:57

OP, your drive is looking a bit muddy now- especially that bit at the bottom, next to the road. Isn't it time to get the pressure washer out? Did you say you had a toddler who could help?

BeautyQueenFromMars · 20/07/2016 14:57

user1468166567

Surely if they're sitting in their car, they're not really blocking your drive, as they can move immediately if you want to get access or egress?

Cheeky, cowardly fucker! Really hope you find out who it was OP and tear them a new one.....

As an aside, I am stunned the police can do nothing about a car parked on private land without the owner's permission and which prevents the owner from using their own driveway.

GladAllOver · 20/07/2016 15:42

Yes Minty, it's not as if they had criminals to catch is it? Hmm

Marsaday · 20/07/2016 15:48

Car is still sitting on the street. I have been busy trying to entertain toddler and baby while simultaneously manually draining my washing machine after it stopped full of clothes and water.

JessieMcJessie · 20/07/2016 15:54

But rightknockered why should OP park in the street when she has a perfectly good drive to park on? Hmm

wowfudge · 20/07/2016 16:18

We discounted a house we viewed precisely because of it's proximity to the gates of a primary school, at the end of a cul de sac, and the potential for being a parking nightmare.

Onesieisthequeensselfie · 20/07/2016 16:19

You know what you could do with the washing water OP... Wink

rightknockered · 20/07/2016 16:22

She doesn't have to park in the drive. It's just a strategy I use because the offending parker will then park right on the edge of the dropped kerb to be outside the remit of parking fines (£100 in my area) they could incur for blocking a drive. If someone parks right on the edge of my drive it then hinders me from manoeuvring onto my own drive.

rightknockered · 20/07/2016 16:26

Obviously I meant that she doesn't have to park on the street

JessieMcJessie · 20/07/2016 16:28

If someone parked legally at the edge of your dropped kerb hinders you from driving into your own drive then you need to speak to the council about getting it widened.

rightknockered · 20/07/2016 16:36

It'll cost me a few thousand, can't afford it
Parking around my street is terrible. All the other roads have resident only parking so we get everyone parking and blocking us in. Its a constant battle against the selfish tits

mrsb2016 · 20/07/2016 17:21

Bounce it off your drive to cause an obstruction then report to police soon be removed once its on highway

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 20/07/2016 17:25

Yep, Chuck the buckets of soapy washing machine water down the drive...
