I can't believe I have admitted I actually watch that show Grin But yes, I do

So is it just me? Jamelia is utterly annoying!

I know the purpose behind the show is to have panelists with different view points so that there can be a spirited debate.

But must she ALWAYS have a totally random opinion that is completely contrary to everyone else? It's absolutely fine to disagree, but her disagreement rarely makes sense and she always gets needlessly agitated while making her point.

She also has a tendency to be on a high horse and take the most uppity and moral stance possible.

I'm thinking of this one occasion she was so judgemental of women in the sex trade and another occasion where she had some odd opinions on teenagers being able to access birth control.

And believe me, I dislike Nigel Farage, but when he came on the show, he seemed like the sensible one in front of her. It wasn't I disagreed with her points, she was just so tangential while making it!!

Rant over Wink

Only seen uppity in 'gone with the wind' think that says it all

quail · 13/07/2016 16:42

serviced: totally agree with your last point. I just wouldn't dismiss out of hand people who have concerns early on about the possibility of racism, and there seemed to be a lot of 'how can we be racist when we don't see colour' after TeaAddict's post, which I thought was a little too glib. Also, being a woman of colour doesn't make you not racist, as my mother is Asian and said something horrifically racist the other day. And as I told her off, I patronised her too! I mean, how hard is it to google uppity and black? If you haven't heard that before, maybe you haven't read enough about race and you could read more? I don't mean that aggressively!

areyoubeingserviced · 13/07/2016 16:43

I also missed the uppity bit- suggests that she does not no her place

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2016 16:45

I once said on here I didn't like Lewis Hamilton very much. Apparently that was racist. Confused

quencher · 13/07/2016 16:45

I thought that one of her biggest songs which is not superstar was the sound truck to the first Bridget Jones movie.

I haven't watched lose women in almost seven years. Down grading jamila's achievements is not right. She has worked hard over the years for it. For about 15+ years. She was not on a talent show. Her singing voice is actually good.

I don't her level of cleverness regarding subjects on loose women. The only article I read that she wrote was one about pierce Morgan/beyonce/and Blm and I loved it. She articulated how I felt and I loved her for that. So I can only base my judgement on that. Oh, and strictly. I didn't see why people didn't like her on strictly. She was great, chatty, smiley, even though she didn't hide her feeling towards her failure.

areyoubeingserviced · 13/07/2016 16:45

Know

LilacSpunkMonkey · 13/07/2016 16:45

So you are calling people racist then quail? Because dismissing people with 'a little too glib' is basically saying 'I don't believe you'.

I think accusations of racism where there's no bloody racism is not on.

quail · 13/07/2016 16:51

No, I'm saying the poster who was expressing concerns about the thread being in danger of becoming racist because of racism on previous threads shouldn't have been dismissed with a relaxed assuredness that it couldn't happen because it could happen. And since it begins with the inclusion of a widely accepted racist insult (which the original poster was unaware of) I'm saying the levels of relaxedness may have been unfounded.

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2016 16:56

My understanding of uppity is that it means stuck up. And a Mr Men character. So not sure how wide the acceptance is that it's a racist comment TBH.

Snapespeare · 13/07/2016 16:56

uppity was traditionally used in the U.S. to describe a black person who had thoughts above their station. sometimes it applies to women or any colour as well, if they're not accepting of their 'place'. the word is not used as a compliment, but to suggest someone is over-reaching because of the colour of their skin . it's not a good term to use. it has very negative connotations.

SoleBizzz · 13/07/2016 16:56

So because Jamelia is Black we can't say we don't like her prejudices against fat people....

littlerabbitface · 13/07/2016 17:01

I find Jamelia really irritating.

Also I find it really ridiculous how you can't find someone irritating without someone thinking you're being racist

I don't think it's crazy of TeaAddict to be conscious of the dangers of talking about women of colour in a derogatory way

So you can find a white woman irritating, write it on a forum and it's ok, but if that person who is irritating happens to be a woman of colour, that's not ok?

Basically you can slag off all the white people you want but you must not say anything negative about Jamelia (even though everything that's been said is completely unrelated to the colour of her skin) because if you do, you're at risk of turning the thread in to a 'black lady hunt'

Stop the world I want to get off.

Fwiw I didn't know 'uppity' was a racist term. I've never used it but have heard it.

IsThisEmette · 13/07/2016 17:02

Gosh, I had no idea that uppity has such connotations! That's horrible

I really am sorry if I offended anyone with that.

I am not find of Jamelia for reasons that have nothing to do with her skin colour and I wouldn't dream of implying that she should be criticised on racial grounds

people don't like people.....shock
I like Miranda and find her funny....a lot of people don't and say stuff about her. people just like who they like.
I saw Jamelia on that Bears programme and she was awful, saw her on strictly....still didn't like her.
obviously people do or she wouldn't be on tv

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 13/07/2016 17:06

I think it's clear the OP didn't use the word uppity as a racial slur.
However, it's interesting to learn that it has negative connotations for black people. I've never come across that before.

Janey50 · 13/07/2016 17:07

Sparklingbrook - yes I remember those inane remarks she made about plus-sized clothes. Apparently, stores should not stock larger sizes as it just encourages people to be overweight. OK. So anyone larger than a size 18 will either have to a) make their own clothes or b) go around naked. What an air-head she is.

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2016 17:08

TBH I can say 'uppity' is not a word I have heard in RL or anywhere else for years, said about anybody at all.

Janey50 · 13/07/2016 17:09

And regarding criticising her because of her race, that is nonsense. I would have said EXACTLY the same whatever race she is.

FayKorgasm · 13/07/2016 17:22

I can't stand Jamelia. Anyone who thinks women should be made to breastfeed is clearly a twit.

WallisSimpson11 · 13/07/2016 17:33

Sparklingbrook Black lady hunt? I thought so- what a shame.

Muzzcub · 13/07/2016 17:33

Cant comment on her appearances on Loose Women as I never watch it but she had two really lovely songs out years ago, Thankyou and See It In A Boys Eyes

Lovely singing voice

WallisSimpson11 · 13/07/2016 17:37

Well, when black people are always discriminated against by white people (the latter who think they are superior), what do you expect? It's called being on the defensive and being sensitive, that's what. Shock

pilates · 13/07/2016 17:38

YANBU

She does not come across well on TV at all.
