To want my DH to go to A&E?

DH has had weird nervy pains in one side of his head for the last 3-4 days. Today, the pain was quite severe so he decided to go to the local walk-in centre this evening.

They saw him and advised him to go to A&E in our nearest city (around 15 miles from home). The triage report that the nurse gave him to give to A&E said "urgent" and mentioned red flags. It also said "seriously ill but stable".

DH does not drive and the nurse told him he shouldn't in any case. I can't take him to A&E because dd is in bed and we don't have anyone who could babysit tonight. DH would either have to take a taxi or ask a friend.

He doesn't want to go, "because it's late" and he says he'll go tomorrow. He probably doesn't want to put anyone out this late, and he would hate "wasting" money on a taxi. He is also telling me that the pain is better, but not sure if I believe him.

AIBU to think he should take a taxi and go tonight, as advised by the nurse? Or is it reasonable for him to decide that he feels well enough to wait until the morning? He tells me that he knows his own body and he is ok, but then, what were those "red flags" all about?

I can't force him to go, can I? Sad

Years ago, I got sent to A&E in an ambulance, for chest pains - which turned out to be a chest infection causing pain and irritation to my sternum, thankfully.

Whilst I was there, dh was running round at home, getting stuff ready for the morning, and fell down stairs, caught his finger, and broke it.

When I was released from A&E, in the small hours, he came and picked me up in the car and, when I got in, he announced 'I have broken my finger but it is OK because I have strapped it to a piece of Lego - look!'

When we got home, and I had a proper look at it, I had to order him back into the car, to go back to the hospital where a complex fracture was diagnosed. In the end, it took three operations and a year of physio to get his finger back to near normal!!

I can't believe that people are so stupid that they even have to ask questions like this. Phone a taxi and send him to A & E.

icklekid · 12/07/2016 15:06

user1468330875 have you read any of the posts other than the OP??? Hmm

biscuit hoping the lack of update isn't because it is something serious...

No I read the other comments and never before have I read anything so pathetic as someone being told by a walk-in centre to go to A & E and then deciding not to because they didn't want to waste a few quid on a taxi.

GabsAlot · 12/07/2016 15:59

hmm not good is it

seriously ill but stable doesnt phone anyone to tell them or get an ambulance

BastardGoDarkly · 12/07/2016 16:10

I hope Hes ok, op x

user1468330875 · 12/07/2016 16:45

At long last. I still can believe that he didn't straight there from the clinic and that the OP was debating waking her DD up to drive her DH to A & E. A & E is no place for a child to spend the night just because her father doesn't want to pay for a taxi.

pxmx · 12/07/2016 16:45

Hope all is ok op please update when you can.

Hermanfromguesswho · 12/07/2016 17:00

Hope all is ok

Toooldtobearsed · 12/07/2016 17:07

Oh bugger off user. You are clearly not married to a man, who, along with lots of others is a total pain in the arse about 'getting seen to'.

THAT was the actual problem, the rest was window dressing.

Toooldtobearsed · 12/07/2016 17:10

Oh bugger off user. You obviously do not have a partner who, along with lots of others, is a total pain in the arse about 'getting seen to'.

THAT was the real problem, the rest was window dressing.

SprogletsMum · 12/07/2016 17:12

Hope your dh is OK.

Toooldtobearsed · 12/07/2016 17:17

OooopsBlush

I obviously felt very strongly about that.......😁

user1468330875 · 12/07/2016 17:23

Tooldtobearsed - Grand WRONG assumption there. My husband is smart enough to know that if a clinic says go to A & E it is worth the taxi fare.
