I know you don't know what I mean.

AnnaMarlowe · 10/07/2016 01:44

Harsh Katie I'm just cut to the quick.

Notinmybackyard · 10/07/2016 01:58

I don't like the world bloated when someone says they're full up with food. Sounds like a corpse in Taggert😳

Another grating statement on the radio or tv used a lot is "Now here's the thing" 😕

SloppyDailyMailJournalism · 10/07/2016 01:58

Wow, chill OP GrinFlowers

You people are sharp!
Reading this felt like sitting on the school bus listening to the really cool girls, laughing but also thinking please don't be me next.

Zuccarelli · 10/07/2016 09:01

People turned on you pretty quickly op! They can't wait for someone to post something that they can be a dick about!

Fwiw I get it! I hate it when people say "spends" or "funds" instead of money.

I'd point you to the "wishing MN was as funny as it used to be" thread but see you've already found it! Grin

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 10/07/2016 09:02

Great. You're grumpy that people are upbeat and positive. Happily I'm not that sort and tend towards cheerfulness.

sharknad0 · 10/07/2016 09:08

I hate it when people use "lighthearted" for what we all agree is a trivial subject, but where they can't accept that people find the issue still ridiculous. Just because it's lighthearted doesn't mean you are right and people have to agree with you.

allyjay · 10/07/2016 09:28

The words that really piss me off are roughhousing and show boating. Don't know why but they make me see red. Oh and conflicted. Where the hell did that come from all of a sudden? I don't remember anyone using that word 20 years ago.

The phrases that piss me off are: a big no no and step up to the plate. Grrrr, very irritating.

reader77 · 10/07/2016 09:30

I have NO idea when or why other tongue in cheek/grumpy threads are ok and others get turned on, like here!

I happily read other poster's grumpy threads. Smile

Op you sound utterly, utterly miserable. You cared enough to post about a word? Seriously give your head a wobble and stop being so petty in life.

MaisieDotes · 10/07/2016 09:32

Yeah anna I know, I have BF three of my own.

I just don't like the phrase "offering". Smile

reader77 · 10/07/2016 09:34

What the what?!

Clearly everyone who thinks I'm miserable is happily telling other people how happily they go about their lives. Happily.

It's not the actual word, it's the use of it to illustrate how people do not mind doing something, TELLING people they don't mind and it comes across - to me - as PA and a bit smug.

Or the phase "offering the breast" I mean.

I don't get all the huffing and puffing on this thread.

MrsWooster · 10/07/2016 09:50

Do any of you posters know that it is actually possible to read something, shrug and wander off? That it's not compulsory for OPs to justify a grumpy rant? That maybe it's ok for her to be told she is BU or NBU without being held up against some imaginary posting criteria and told off? We are, I assume, all grown ups and allowed to be different; joining MN doesn't mean joining a cult or a hivemind. Happily, my own rant is now over.

KatieKaboom · 10/07/2016 10:20

Now "proffering the breast" is inspired.

sharknad0 · 10/07/2016 10:46

Once again:

Am I being BU?
yes.
Oh, but it's lighthearted.
still BU, chill out.
you people have no sense of humour!
sigh...

Mrscaindingle · 10/07/2016 10:49

Jeez some peeps taking this a bit too seriously Hmm

Don't share your hatred op but my own irrational hates are

cuppa
bite to eat
all the trimmings

My mum says these things often Grin

AnnaMarlowe · 10/07/2016 10:56

reader the reason some threads go ok even with a grumpy tone is that they are obviously tongue in cheek. For whatever reason something about how you styles your OP meant that people picked up "grumpy" rather than "lighthearted". That's just how it goes.

MrsWooster I don't think anyone was holding reader to any particular standard, they were just genuinely responding to what they felt was the tone of the OP. Reader got a bit peeved that people hadn't picked up the lighthearted intention of the post (in an even more grumpy tone) and it went from there.

My subsequent posts were meant to be funny though I think that apocalypse might be implying that they were mean. It was nearly 2am my humour can be a bit wacky at that point.

Just5minswithDacre · 10/07/2016 10:57

Yep that's the thread I read shark Smile

I think 'light-hearted' is now some kind of spell of regret posters use to prove they were reasonable all along Wink

Just5minswithDacre · 10/07/2016 11:03

And that Anna.

(The sudden influx to the thread was because OP went whining to the 'MN isn't funny any more ' thread at silly o'clock that her thread wasn't getting the correct reception/understanding, so they all came marching over to enforce 'correct understanding of the tone' which really did tickle me Grin)

fleur34 · 10/07/2016 11:07

totally know what you mean OP! "Happily" is annoying! I think its more the way its said as well - "oh really, your child doesnt do x? well mine HAPPILY do it!" type thing. I totally get where you were coming from and very confused by everyone telling you off for this thread

reader77 · 10/07/2016 11:11

Erm excuse me I wasn't whining? I said oops!

I am serious wtf about this?!
