YY Girl.

The one that drives me bonkers I'd that Twitter grammar: "Because science."

How much do you have to hate the English language to come out with that crap?

'Thoughts'- when people make a statement (on Twitter a lot) and say 'thoughts'? It sounds so arrogant.

Miseries on threads that were clearly not meant to be miserable.

Curated. Steam comes out of my ears when I hear it used in any situation apart from a museum or gallery: "Samantha Potttinger-Jones keeps a beautifully curated preserves cupboard". "Kill All Panthers Punk Extravaganza curated by Meathead".
Just aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Heavily pregnant. I hate that phrase, like the more pregnant you are, the more important you are. When does pregnancy become heavy anyway?

Isn't "happily" just an update of "gladly"?

I think 'happily' is another way of saying' I don't mind.'

Just happily sounds self-congratulatory and irks me.

'Look at me being all easy going.'

Oh boo!

Edit.

A bunch of stuff a magazine wants you to buy for your house.

Is now an 'Edit'!

Report
reader77 · 11/07/2016 11:31

Is that what 'edit' means?

I've just realised that so many things pass me by because I have no idea what they mean.

Like 'on fleek.' Eh?

Great "Heavily Pregnant" isn't about how important you are, it's about how big your bump is!

At 10 weeks pregnant no bump You are unlikely to need many adaptations/accommodations made for being pregnant. At 37 weeks with a huge bump, reduced balance, increased fatigue, potentially swollen ankles or hands and reduced mobility there may be all sorts of stuff you can't do/lift etc.

Yes reader like, you've edited it down from all the stuff that exists, ever.

Or, no actually. Probably just this season's stuff.

Gladly is ok.

I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today

'Happily' originally meant 'fortunately' as in 'Happily, it didn't rain.' Hence we still have 'hapless' meaning unfortunate.

You're welcome.

mrscain urgh yes - sourced! What they actually mean is they went shopping. I sourced a locally produced authentic daily interest piece today from a local independent printer. I BOUGHT THE FRIGGING PAPER Hmm

Sourced does indeed make me grit my teeth. There was a great thread a while ago about how everything has to be a 'thing' now. People can't possibly just live their life, it has to be sexed up.

GreatFuckability · 12/07/2016 00:52

Nanna I know what it means, but its used as 'i cant possibly move that box cos I'm HEAVILY PREGNANT' etc.....i had a colleague say that to me. I was more pregnant than she was. But I was less fat obviously pregnant. Grin

In which case Great your issue is with the colleague rather than the phrase...

Words and phrases that are annoying to me:
Dream feed
Virtue signaling
"My sweet num num's is 96 months old today!"
"Only one more sleep 'til blah blah blah"

GreatFuckability · 12/07/2016 01:19

Well it may be the origin of my dislike, but I hate it when anyone says it. Grin
