I keep seeing grown adults using scooters to get around.

AIBU thinking they all look like complete knobs?

Don't knock it until you've tried it. It is brilliant fun, and a great healthy way to get around. I've had a few mean comments and some people have laughed at me, but I couldn't give a stuff. I guarantee I'm having a better time than they are, and if it gives them something to talk about, sure it means that's time they're spending not bitching about someone else.

Yabu

I want to get one but am too worried people like the OP would think I was fool.

I've been riding my bike to work and found a few roads completely impossible to ride in for various reasons and have noticed everybody else just rides on the pavement along those roads. I get off and walk but would scooter and have seriously been considering one.

Just go for it lynette ! It's so much fun you won't care! And I get far more positive reactions than twatty ones

RubyBlu yes! that's the old dude. And yes, Elsham / Russell rather than Holland. I find bin day on Elsham Rd to be a fascinating socio economic study into Kensington and Chelsea. Lot of building works means a lot of interesting stuff being slung out.

People who use scooters without disrupting anyone else? Go for it.

People who use scooters and bang into others, force you into roads, knock you over and generally cause a huge annoyance? Twats.

"People who use scooters and bang into others, force you into roads, knock you over and generally cause a huge annoyance? Twats."

Indeed. I must say though, in all my years out and about in London and with my kids on there scooters and me on mine more recently, I have literally never seen these inconsiderate, risk taking aggressive scooter users that seem to be so prevalent else where.

NickiFury · 08/07/2016 11:31

Jane I know the road you mean. That's quite good for scooting round there as the pavements are so wide. Look out for us on our scooters - mine is a grey floral number and I have an older boy and also a small girl with very long plaits, you can't miss us Grin

Their not there

I've fixed that statement.

I don't mind people on scooters but I do mind being expected to leap out of the way of a group of kids on the pavement. Usually the adult is blocks behind so not able to attend to the kids.

I'm a bit surprised by parents on this thread admitting they've got scooters do they can keep up with the kids and don't have to keep yelling at them to slow down. That seems to magnify the problem by adding a scouting adult rather than dealing with it by not allowing the kids to go such a distance in the first place.

The other day a little boy barged into me on a scooter. I said "watch out" automatically and looked around for an adult. Saw her a block behind and she glared at me and gave catsbum face. Ten seconds later the kid came off his scooter and started howling in the middle of the pavement.

So maybe I am judgey about them but I see accidents and near misses every morning since my walk to work is on the school scoot run.

HairyMoose · 08/07/2016 12:22

Why would they look like knobs? Is it just because they're over 18?

Very strange thread! Confused

angielou123 · 08/07/2016 14:13

I quite often see a mum on a scooter going up to the schools. If my son said 'can you bring my scooter after school' then I would ride it from the car to the school. I don't see other ppl on them though (outside school setting).
