DD has just told me that daddy always leaves her in the car when he goes in to pay for the petrol.
Can think of a few 'what if's' which might seem extreme & ultimate feel fucked off at his negligence. AIBU to feel this way? Or am I just OTT?

I'm going against the grain, I usually take mine with me unless she's asleep, or I'm at my local one where they have a lovely older gentleman who I think is a kind of greeter and makes funny faces at her and keeps her company, once she's older and can understand I'll leave her, but she gets terribley upset and for the sake of clicking her harness and taking her with me it's not worth the hysterics I get from leaving her!

I always left my three when I went to pay for my petrol. Pay at the pump was jus starting to creep in when they were that age, but still wasn't too widespread.

They seem to have survived.

You are being silly.

YANBU, can see your point OP. Depends on circumstances though. How big/busy the petrol station is, location etc.

Soup. I was and still am a single parent. I organised my time in a wT so I didn't have to take DS with me to the petrol station. As I said before its all down to personal choice.

Soup I find it hard to believe that all the way through the younger years a parent wouldn't have someone they could ask to mind their child for 15 mins whilst they got petrol?

Ok here is my story. I always left my twins in the car, who wants to disturb sleeping babies, to drag out the pushchair for the couple of minutes that I'd be in the shop while paying for petrol. That was until one night that a shoplifter got caught in the shop and the manager locked the doors. The shoplifter got very violent with the staff and was throwing goods around. This was in the days before pay at pump. So yes I've seen both sides and didn't let myself be in that situation again, I wouldn't leave it until I was alone with them to need to get fuel. It's very hard to talk to the non resident parent about safety without losing your shit with them and appearing as the unreasonable one. However please approach this from the point of view of being in the dc best interest not to be in that situation for the time the dc are with the other parent and for them to work around it.

thismumismad, that sounds so scary. You must have been very relieved that your babies weren't trapped with the violent shoplifter. Flowers

Yes glad in one way that they were not in that shop but bloody hell my babies were in the car yes asleep but the car was not locked. I go cold every time I think about it.

thismum but surely that's down to you not locking the car, rather than robbers in the shop who were no risk to your sleeping babies. Had they been with you the risk would have been far greater, surely?

Thank goodness they were not in the shop!

If you're not comfortable with it ask him to go to a petrol station where you can pay at the pump? X

And he has every right to ignore you.

Wouldn't you go even colder if they had been in the shop with the violent person throwing things?
