Ex leaves 3 year old in car at petrol station. AIBU to be livid?

DD has just told me that daddy always leaves her in the car when he goes in to pay for the petrol.
Can think of a few 'what if's' which might seem extreme & ultimate feel fucked off at his negligence. AIBU to feel this way? Or am I just OTT?

OP posts:
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 03/07/2016 12:16

I thought everyone did that at the petrol station?

BrickInTheWall · 03/07/2016 12:17

I am always shocked by these threads. I personally never see anyone taking their kids in to pay for petrol. I have 4 kids - how would that even work? Carry the baby, hold the toddlers hand and let the 4 and 7 year olds trail behind me?! Cannot see how anyone could possibly think that is safer than leaving them in the car.
As Im sure you've figured out by no YABU and ridiculous.

Fresta · 03/07/2016 12:20

Guess this isn't the response you expected OP?

Bogeyface · 03/07/2016 12:29

Well either this is a DM fishing expidition or you are angry with your ex about other things and are focussing on this as a "legitimate" reason to be pissed off with him.

Except it isnt legitimate. Work what you are really angry about and deal with that.

Or if you are from the DM, write your own damn article.

mylovegoesdown · 03/07/2016 12:34

Quick OP, get MN to delete this thread due to 'privacy reasons' before more people disagree Smile.

FuzzyOwl · 03/07/2016 12:35

Fresta it's a first post, so I expect it is exactly the response the op was looking for. Or maybe I am just cynical.

Nearlyadoctor · 03/07/2016 12:37

Totally OTT!

BombadierFritz · 03/07/2016 12:39

I heard he lets your dd eat grapes while shopping in tescos - then just pays for whats left
And he parks in the parent/child spaces while dd is at yours
Plus he voted 'leave'
Basically, he's a bastard.

m0therofdragons · 03/07/2016 12:43

Okay so I have 3dc. When dd1 was 3 dtds were a few months old. Should I have put in fuel then got the buggy out to get all 3dc into the bit to pay? I've never seen this in my life and was always told under 16s were not allowed to walk on the petrol forecourt. You need to get a grip.

Lonecatwithkitten · 03/07/2016 12:45

This is the first of your 'different style of parenting' situations you have another 15 years to go. There is some stuff you just have to walk away from. There will be much bigger stuff and you will have to navigate your way through.

Familyof3or4 · 03/07/2016 12:50

Fuzzyowl why dies a first post mean they are looking for this response? Ex Partner doing a reverse?

scarednoob · 03/07/2016 12:54

As a FTM with a baby DD, I must admit I had wondered the same, as we have avoided it until now by getting petrol when we are both there, so v relieved to see everyone thinks it's fine. But is there an age at which you would take them, ie carry the baby car seat with you? Or just leave them as it's such a short thing?

TheNaze73 · 03/07/2016 12:58

YABVU, sounds like you're spooling for a fight OP

underrugsswept · 03/07/2016 12:58

Not OTT at all. I wouldn't do it wight my DC either.

underrugsswept · 03/07/2016 12:58

With

underrugsswept · 03/07/2016 12:59

Although 'livid' is an overreaction. I'd be mildly irritated.

kali110 · 03/07/2016 13:02

Very ott

TSSDNCOP · 03/07/2016 13:05

What do you do when you get petrol OP?

FuzzyOwl · 03/07/2016 13:07

Family it sounds like an intentially goady post from someone with no previous posting history. First posts usually are comments on threads rather than deliberately controversial or ones that get unanimous agreement from everyone else on AIBU.

Hissy · 03/07/2016 13:10

Are you in the habit of looking for problems where there are none?

Is this why you are his ex?

RepentAtLeisure · 03/07/2016 13:21

OP, come back in a few months when people have forgotten this thread and ask if YOU are BU to leave your three year old alone in the car while you pay for petrol. The responses may be interesting, especially if you make it clear you're the mother...

LunaLoveg00d · 03/07/2016 13:29

Here is a grip. I think you need it.

AndNowItsSeven · 03/07/2016 13:32

I would be very annoyed and it's unnecessary , just pay at the pump.

Manyshadesofblack · 03/07/2016 13:35

I always took my ds with me into the petrol station to pay if there wasn't a pay at the pump option. That is because my ds is over sensitive to many things and he wouldn't have coped well with being on his own in the car. I would have been very upset if someone had left him alone in a car but he was never with anyone else.

I do think petrol stations are not the safest placest for small kids to be and all the petrol fumes probably bad too. You need to do what is right for your child.

Manyshadesofblack · 03/07/2016 13:36

Agree that pay at pump is best
