AIBU?

Ex leaves 3 year old in car at petrol station. AIBU to be livid?

DD has just told me that daddy always leaves her in the car when he goes in to pay for the petrol.
Can think of a few 'what if's' which might seem extreme & ultimate feel fucked off at his negligence. AIBU to feel this way? Or am I just OTT?

Totally OTT, your husband can see your child while he is paying and much quicker, easier and safer to leave her strapped in the car.

I was equally angry when ExH let DS3 play COD when he was 10, but TBH, it's minor league stuff. And it's part of being separated or divorced from your DC's other parent. Not my choice, but people parent differently and however frustrating that is, you have to suck up the minor stuff. Flowers

As long as the car is locked, she's strapped in and he can see her at all times then I don't see it as a problem and certainly nowhere near "negligence". Most places have pay at the pump now anyway but if not then the child is still likely to be safer in a locked car than crossing a busy forecourt.

Totally over the top. Used to do that all the time when mine where younger. Also used to leave a sleep in the car on the drive.

I think you are being very OTT calling it negligence. He's made a decision based on what he thinks is safer, just as you do. Many, many people think that being strapped in the car is safer than taking a wee one across the forecourt.

Have you left something out? Like the door was unlocked or she was climbing into the front and playing with the handbrake? Otherwise save the lividity for more serious issues

I did it with my 3.
It's more of a faff, and more dangerous, in my opinion, to have them walking on a petrol station forecourt, than to leave them securely strapped in and maybe asleep in a car that is within your sight, and you are gone, mostly, no more than 5 minutes.( I know some people seem to buy the shop up and delay you sometimes, but very rare)

Mine have all survived to be 16, 19 and 23 .

I think being livid is an overreaction.

Safer in the car seat in the car than walking across the forecourt.

Why are MNers always 'livid', 'fuming', or 'incandescent'? Why are they never just angry?

Look what you've done OP! You've broken MN: everyone agrees you are OTT.

How often does anyone see parents queuing to pay for petrol with small children in tow? In my experience, only when the small child is pestering for sweets.

Petrol stations would take ages if everyone unstrapped their 2 kids, walked them over the forecourt, argued with toddler about sweets, walked them back, strapped them back in while dealing with a sweets tantrum. Cars would be trailing round the corner waiting to get in. Fill up. Run in. pay. Run out. Job done
