AIBU?

AIBU to think that having paid to see Florence at BTS Hyde Park, I shouldn't have to put up with other people's children

I went to the BTS festival today and was lying on a blanket in the sun listening to some cool tunes when a family turned up and sat down a few yards away. Parents got in pints and pints of beer and settled down for some tunes whilst children ran up and down between my husband and I screaming and playing tricky. The band playing was a rapper and every other word was fxxxck. Am I being unreasonable to think that this was not a suitable
venue
for children who were very distracting for the rest of us who were there for the music.

Methinks a lot of posters have protested too much. I have obviously hit a soft spot by suggesting that a festival like BST is not suitable for children. Attack is often the best form of defence (someone please tell the England team that).

We were there too & my teenagers said there were masses of people doing drugs in the middle/front of the crowd. The children near us all looked bored. Not sure what the cool way of saying people smoking marijuana & taking tabs/mdma etc is.

I'm with you OP! You have clearly hit a nerve with all the parents who drag their kids to inappropriate festivals so they can get pissed. Grin

Speaking for myself I'm more bemused that (1) you found small children louder and more irritating than the large groups of pissed and high youths that made up most of the crowd and (2) that whoever it was you found irritating, you couldn't just move away, given that you were in a large london park. I agree that kids are going to be bored at a festival like that, but they're hardly the most intrusive characters there!

Also amused that you were "there for the music" but apparently unable to identify "a rapper whose every other word was fuck" (that would be kendrick Lamar, generally acknowledged as one of the most lyrically talented hip hop stars of his generation).

I think lyrically talented would be a more suitable description for Carlole King - not sure that repetitive fxxx and bxxx etc is talented or indeed a lyric.

But I am amused that you think so.

I was there too & saw Kendrick Lamar - I don't think I've ever heard so much swearing in all my life. Jamie XX was on before & we like him so got there for his act. I'd listened to some Kendrick Lamar before going so I'd be familiar with his work & didn't like it. I've seen other rappers & liked their music.

I can possibly see the point about the kids. Going to a gig and complaining about the acts swearing is a bit like...maybe you should stay home with a nice mug of horlicks and Radio 2 nana. As a great Eminem once said 'You're too old, let go...'.

Why would a Florence fan necessarily give a shit about hip hop ? Confused
