AIBU?

AIBU to think that having paid to see Florence at BTS Hyde Park, I shouldn't have to put up with other people's children

I went to the BTS festival today and was lying on a blanket in the sun listening to some cool tunes when a family turned up and sat down a few yards away. Parents got in pints and pints of beer and settled down for some tunes whilst children ran up and down between my husband and I screaming and playing tricky. The band playing was a rapper and every other word was fxxxck. Am I being unreasonable to think that this was not a suitable
venue
for children who were very distracting for the rest of us who were there for the music.

Do you mean the children had their own sound system with them and were playing music by the artist known as Tricky? If that's the case why didn't you just move elsewhere or ask them to turn it off?

Hijack please (although also interested in tricky stuff) - I'm going to BST for Stevie Wonder next week. Is it true you can't take your own food/drink in? Just OP mentioned the annoying family having lots of beer, so that caught my attention.

No I don't think you can take your own drink in- food possibly. But they check your bag at the turnstiles.

I did smuggle in a bottle of rum last year by having another 'decoy' near empty bottle on the top that they found and made me throw away, and then they didn't look for the second Grin

So you were like; just chillaxing,
and they were like; not interested in the cool tunes and going crae crae,
so you were like, I'm going to staying put and let them spoil my chill vibe. That's your bad girlfriend...

YABU.

I've been to loads of gigs in Hyde Park, you know it's not the size of the local park, right? You are free to move around and away from people you find annoying.

If you can sneak it in, you can have your own food/drink. We took a whole picnic to see Bruce Springsteen but it wasn't BST so perhaps not so strict. I have a rather hefty bra which is useful for hiding bottles in Blush

Do we mean this Tricky?

If OP means she couldn't hear the music from the stage because the family were playing other music loudly then that's really annoying. If it was just kids running around then YABVU.

In either case you should have just moved - why didn't you?

Like Tricky the rapper? Or is it a game?

No, it's like me. Grin

To the person who asked about food for next weekend, you are not supposed to bring in food or drink, apart from a small bottle of unopened water. They do check bags quite thoroughly so I'm not sure how likely they would be to find anything. We brought a couple of cereal bars which they didn't notice, I certainly wouldn't try bringing in anything much more than that. There are loads of food/drink options there and the queues were never more than 10 mins and a lot less at times. I can recommend the paella!

If the DC were annoying you by up running on your blanket playing "Tricky"(wtf is that???) you should have politely asked them not to.

I've now got RunDMC in my head.. 'It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...it's Tricky (Tricky) Tricky (Tricky)- I met a little girlie, her hair was kinda curly'..

I'm a bit confused by the responses here. Of course it's not appropriate to play your own music at a gig. Op yanbu.

Lots of the posters here are obviously just the kind of people who let their kids run around close to other people and see no problem with that behaviour because 'it's a public event'. Have lost count of the times a football has landed in my picnic, or hit my dc whilst the parents sit yards away completely infussed so long as the kids aren't bothering them. ...... Also the amount of nasty school yard picking on one sentence or word a poster uses is unacceptable on here. Language varies between regions, social classes and ethnic backgrounds. It is as inappropriate to flame someone for using a figure of speech that may be unfamiliar or have an alternate meaning to you as it would be to criticise them for any of the above reasons. Just because you don't use the phrase 'cool tunes' doesn't make you right or a better person, grow up people.

you should have growled at the children, roared at them, threatened them with the child catcher,
or something

Tricky is a musician that was around in the 90's .
around the same time that Massive attack were very popular

I'll assume tricky is tag? Surprised you didn't just move tbh, it would have solved the problem in the simplest way.
