DS, 5, wants to marry male best friend

DS, 5, says he's in love with his best friend, and wants to marry him, and when they're older they're going to adopt children and live in a volcano... the love is fully requited by the best friend!I think it's funny and sweet, but my DH (who is actually a lovely, non-homophobe), who did find it funny, is now finding it slightly disconcerting- anyone else had a DS who ants to marry their male best friend at about this age? I've told DH lots of kids talk about marrying at this age - both my cousins (male and female) wanted to marry my brother when they were little! Not that he wouldn't accept him being gay, but I don't think it's to do with that at this age. Any thoughts appreciated!

I meant he said it to him, he isn't that good at writing yet :P

ProundParent2009 · 02/07/2016 07:56

Kids say that at that age... Means nothing, from anything it's them trying to express how Much they like their best friend and they don't know how to express it.

When I was his age I wanted to marry my FEMALE best friend.. I am now a Gay Daddy with no interest at all in females!

My little boy is 4.5 and wants to marry his nana!!

I wanted to marry an OAP neighbour. I thought he was such a cool guy. Looks like i've been attracted to older guys since very young age. Grin

I'm interested to see the thread in 15 years time.

"Reader, he married him."

My 5 year old came home the other day and asked to have M over to play "because i want to ask her to marry me, but if i do it in school everyone will be jealous" Grin

Until I was about 8 I was sure I wanted to marry our pet cat 😂 To be fair he was a very sweet cat

Our two sons want to marry each other. They are going to live in an apartment and buy a dishwasher.
All very cute.

Holdtheslaw · 02/07/2016 09:07

You think you've got problems- my daughter wants to marry my son! He's indifferent

BigDamnNCFail · 02/07/2016 09:17

Yep. My nearly 5 year old is convinced he'll marry me. Or his brother. He just thinks you marry your favourite people.

^^ This, exactly, for DS1 (except he won't be five until next year).

toldmywrath · 02/07/2016 09:17

At that age my DS wanted to marry the cat. Fuck knows why, the cat is a complete git. Each to their own. Aah my favourite post this year! I can't stop smiling at this flapping cos I know exactly how much of a git a cat can be Grin

EarthboundMisfit · 02/07/2016 09:17

I've never met a child who didn't say this!

ClownsToTheLeftOfMe · 02/07/2016 09:18

I'd be more worried about his plans to live in a volcano. Maybe not though..I imagine the heating bills would be fairly low Grin

blueskywithclouds · 02/07/2016 09:20

Children are so funny 😊 My nephew (6) wants to marry my daughter (1) because she is his favourite person and he loves her. At this age, marriage is an expression of any love, be it for men, women, family or pets 😁

toldmywrath · 02/07/2016 09:23

OP perhaps it shows you and your DH have given a good example of marriage to your son. There may be some children who would decide, for instance, to never marry anyone cat, balloon etc as they have been shown a negative marriage.

velourvoyageur · 02/07/2016 09:25

When I was 5 I was in love with the girl next door. And yes I do still like girls now ;)

Dolphinsanddinosaurs · 02/07/2016 09:27

DS always wanted to marry me, until he was told it was illegal. He is now planning to marry one of his three male best friends. He doesn't like girls much, as most of them won't play football with him, although if he does marry a girl and they have babies, they are all apparently going to move in with us! Grin

ThisisMrsNicolaHicklin · 02/07/2016 09:29

DS's P1class went through a phase when they were all obsessed with marrying each other. There was a lot of partner swapping and quite a few people couldn't remember who they had married, DS is a flagrant bigamist and one little boy got fed up with the whole thing and sat it out in the shed 😂

Jojay · 02/07/2016 09:30

Yep, my DS reckons he's going to marry his twin sister....

allowlsthinkalot · 02/07/2016 09:30

My six year old wants to marry her best friend and have ten babies each. My four year old wants to marry her best friend's mum. I wanted to marry my Grandad. It's all normal.

PeachyStone · 02/07/2016 09:35

My exDP's daughter, then 5, wanted to marry me, her mum and her nana. All at the same time. As much as me and her mum got on really well I didn't fancy being shacked up with her.
It did give me the warm and fuzzies though as it felt like she'd really accepted my presence in her life.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 02/07/2016 09:49

Wow. This is like a whole other universe to me. I can't remember thinking about marriage till I was 20. And I've never heard my dd mention it or play marriage games.

Maybe that's why I am single - it never stuck as an ambition as a child?

DerelictMyBalls · 02/07/2016 09:49

Don't see the problem, OP. All kids do this.

VioletVaccine · 02/07/2016 09:57

When she was 5, DD1 alternated between wanting to marry DH, and her 2 bfs, both boys.
Now teenage, she actually is gay Grin

DD2 wants to marry DGM's cat, but I'm pretty sure she won't grow up to be trans-species.
