To wish Gordon brown would just return and lead

He never really got a decent chance. He was one of the most successful Chancellors.

The deficit he ran up was much less than George and Dave have run up during times of "austerity".

He was responsible for many of the amazing welfare introductions such as tax credits that have helped loads of families out of poverty.

Agree lets have him back.

RortyCrankle · 02/07/2016 16:53

AndNowItsSeven
Blair isn't a war criminal!

What, like the Pope isn't catholic? Hmm

evilcherub · 02/07/2016 18:21

Lol. Gordon Brown was one of the worst things that happened to this country. I'd rather have Trump in charge than Gordon!

notagainnellie · 02/07/2016 18:25

I'd rather have Trump in charge than Gordon!

What a stupid thing to say Hmm.

WankersHacksandThieves · 02/07/2016 18:28

Agree notagain

Trump would apparently be richer if he'd just not done anything with the money he inherited rather than being an "entrepreneur".

So, added to all his many other faults, he's shit with money and running businesses too. The man's a waste of good oxygen.

SaturdaySurprise · 02/07/2016 18:30

Stating the obvious here, but Gordon Brown isn't an MP anymore so he can't be Leader of the Opposition.

Jasperkiss5 · 02/07/2016 19:18

Oh god the Labour lovers are out. Blair ruined this country, he bled it dry. Brown followed years later and was closely in his foot steps.

Labour politicians love benefits, hand outs and multi culture across the country. Exactly the OPPOSITE of what we need right now, the country has done more than enough in that department. That are just two things on a big list of stuff that they fucked up on.

Just waiting for someone to chuck the racist card now.

BitOutOfPractice · 02/07/2016 22:20

Jasperkiss I can happily say that one one the most bigoted, horrible and just plain STUPID comments I have ever read on MN

BitOutOfPractice · 02/07/2016 22:21

And that's not even to mention the grammar. Which I am usually too nice to point out. But, you know...

ilovesooty · 02/07/2016 22:29

I don't see what multiculturalism has to do with it.

Coatgate · 02/07/2016 22:29

Commenting on grammar is usually frowned upon.

But the referendum seems to have changed that.

Yeah. Open season.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/07/2016 06:02

Colgate you're right. I've never done it before and agree it's wanky. I apologise. In mitigation it was a horrid post and drink had been taken but no excuse

BrandNewAndImproved · 03/07/2016 06:11

I love living in a large multicultural city.

Not thanks to Europe, thanks to the Jamaicans and Indians that joined in ww2 and then settled here. Funny how multiculture helped keep this country free...

As for benefits I genuinely believe if the factories, mines and steelworks were still up and running today there would hardly be anyone on jsa. I'm pretty sure that wasn't a labour gov who shut down the mines and changed this country. Wink

lljkk · 03/07/2016 06:12

GB connived & undermined Blair constantly, GB's people were constantly plotting with knives out. I don't trust GB at all.

MunchCrunch01 · 03/07/2016 06:46

they were a good team though, as it is we have a labour party that can't when faced with austerity measures. People have voted for Brexit rather than labour and in Scotland they've voted for the SNP and independence over labour - that shows the desperate weakness of labour to me. They should be weighing their vote against a split tory party making benefits and services cuts.

MissMargie · 03/07/2016 07:02

I think the constant media scrutiny is to blame - no one decent would want to be a political leader nowadays. Hence Clinton/ trump, gove/ may/ Corbin . Basically you have to justify everything you do and take the flak as everyone is never always happy, put your family at risk, terrorists etc, and live in a 24 hour spotlight, only an ego driven oddball would do that.

parrots · 03/07/2016 07:05

As someone said recently when GB was roped into the referendum campaign, 'If Gordon Brown is the answer, what the hell is the question?'

He was a terrible PM. Then there's that weird thing he does with his teeth when talking

ridiculouspirate · 03/07/2016 10:57

I'd have him back. Shame it won't happen, as labour seem to be lacking in ...well everything these days. :(

He may not have been perfect, but was less of an arse than most of them and seemed to just get on with the job.

Many people just believed the constant media line that he was single handedly responsible for the financial crisis. Not maybe, the global issues. ...

I think the media have had an ever stronger bias towards (and against!) certain parties/individuals. and a seemingly stronger influence on the voting public over the last ten years or so. Or maybe I just didn't notice it when I was younger. (I'm pushing 40 now)

Plus a lot of people believe any ducking thing they read on Facebook these days. It seems a different world.

ridiculouspirate · 03/07/2016 10:58

Not ducking clearly.Blush

Swear fail.

scarednoob · 03/07/2016 11:00

YANSU. The man is an arrogant nob. He wanted to be PM, but he knew nobody would vote for him. So he plotted to get the role anyway because he knows better than the rest of the country. Awful man, awful PM.

Although still better than slimy Blair.

milkywimpshake · 03/07/2016 13:16

I think he's excellent and he got a really unfair kicking from the media at the time. The 'dour Presbyterian' stereotypes make me roll my eyes tbh. His "sort of a bigoted woman" comment was also entirely fair!

m.youtube.com/watch?v=J39bBV7CBJk I voted yes in the Scottish independence referendum, but I watched this the night before polling day. It made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck and so very nearly swayed me back to a no vote.

Tanith · 04/07/2016 23:43

"The man is an arrogant nob. He wanted to be PM, but he knew nobody would vote for him. So he plotted to get the role anyway because he knows better than the rest of the country. Awful man, awful PM."

That's what the tabloids wanted you to believe. Have you a shred of evidence for any of that rubbish?

ginghambox · 05/07/2016 00:12

Bring him back to be Chuka Amunna's shadow chancelor and totally destroy the labour party forever (hopefully).

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 05/07/2016 00:13

I think what this thread is highlighting what a brain drain we have in politics. I am in my early forties and if whatever leader left in either party there was always a handful of people who could takeover in either party. There seemed to be more heavy weight politicians with big personalities.
