AIBU to move to Scotland because England is now officially shit?

Just that really.
Where's a good place to live to escape all the Brexit madness?
I prefer Nicola Sturgeon to any of the psychopaths allegedly 'running' the country down here.

But it's ok to hate the English. We have all that privilege.

aliceinwanderland · 30/06/2016 23:34

Love a good waterproof jacket. Still haven't sussed put correct footwear though. Often have sodden socks

ChipStix · 01/07/2016 00:28

The Scottish don't hate the English as much as they hate themselves. Which is sad as there is so much of which they can be proud.
But of course being proud is 'getting above yourself,' which is something we English do all the time but something your average Scot Could never be accused of. Except George Galloway.

PresidentCJCregg · 01/07/2016 07:58

Chip have you been reading too much Trainspotting? Grin

I do like having taken on this responsibility. All that finely woven fabric to admire.

I work in Scotland quite regularly and notice they have a massive shortage of labour so being out of the EU would actually be quite bad for them. Most of my colleagues who are working up there managing infrastructure projects are English, and we quite often have to get companies in from way down south to do minor jobs because there isn't anyone in Scotland capable of doing the work. It means that a lot of jobs probably cost 10-20% more than their English equivalent because of having to pay for all the travel and accommodation costs.

Groundskeeper Willie: It won't last. Brothers and sisters are natural enemies. Like Englishmen and Scots! Or Welshmen and Scots! Or Japanese and Scots! Or Scots and other Scots! Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland!
Principal Skinner: You Scots sure are a contentious people.
Groundskeeper Willie: You just made an enemy for life!

LadyAntonella · 01/07/2016 11:30

Agree with the anti-English sentiment being all too acceptable in some areas. My DH is English and he was scared to go out in public in parts of Glasgow for example. In Aberdeen and Edinburgh there are so many people from England and elsewhere that it isn't an issue at all (unless there's sport on and England are playing - then people occasionally turn into cunts, but that's sport for you)!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 01/07/2016 12:04

Scotland welcomes all refugees. Even the English. Grin Seriously though, we are all in trouble, the whole of the UK is gubbed. Where else can we go? Confused Wine

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 01/07/2016 12:27

I'd love to live in Edinburgh. Sad I was there last night.

I have visions of sticking my central (natch) pad on Airbnb during the Festival and going back to my mum's for a few weeks whilst I make a killing.

pearlylum · 01/07/2016 12:35

Berybitchy- I did just that for years.
We would rent out our Georgian property just a mile from Princes street and bugger off to Bali for a month. Still had cash left over.

I do so love the colony houses. My dream is a double upper.

Still, I'd probably need to run an Airbnb all year round to afford Edinburgh prices! Grin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 01/07/2016 14:41

I can barely afford to park my car in Edinburgh, never mind live there

Eigg · 01/07/2016 15:22

Boffin I don't like to be picky but that last kilt is far too long! A well fitting kilt should just skim the floor when kneeling. It should never be below the knee.

As you were.

QueenLaBeefah · 01/07/2016 15:25

I live in Edinburgh and I spend a good proportion of the time as a flaming ball of rage at how completely incompetent Edinburgh council is. Don't move here - not good for your blood pressure.

mon73g1 · 01/07/2016 15:26

yanbu, this brexit shit is really pissing me off, since everybody is talking about, like we're all gonna die. Confused Angry

MitzyLeFrouf · 01/07/2016 15:30

Well we are all going to die. But that was the case pre Brexit also

Wink
LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 01/07/2016 15:46

queen You should come out to the suburb's, our local community council are currently in fighting about the colour of the bulbs in our streetlights. Like there is nothing else to care aboutConfused Boris might be up to the job....

To be fair, the nature of the conversation over the last week has been a bit reminiscent of this:

That chap looks like he was made in Scotland from girders, so to speak.

My DH came across quite a lot of anti English sentiment in Dundee, it is also probably 20% nice areas 80% rough areas. I grew up there and I wouldn't move back if you paid me.
Men in kilts give me the heebie jeebies, I'm obviously not a very good Scottish person, good job I married an Englishman really!

Eigg · 02/07/2016 12:46

Boffin well done, that's much better, nicely on the knee.

5minutes you are missing out. My DH looks amazing in his kilt.

Girlgonewild that link to carbisdale castle brings back lovely childhood memories. We used to stay there when it was a youth hostel and is an amazing building. Hard to believe you'd only get a nice 3 bed terrace in central London for the same price.
