AIBU to move to Scotland because England is now officially shit?

Just that really.
Where's a good place to live to escape all the Brexit madness?
I prefer Nicola Sturgeon to any of the psychopaths allegedly 'running' the country down here.

He humiliated himself.

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 19:58

I'd always considered the Scots a proud race of people, not grovelling sycophants.

Ugh you sound like some patronising Victorian explorer describing a tribe he'd discovered paddling down the Amazon.

Get back to your Daily Express.

supersoftcuddlytoys · 30/06/2016 20:00

And Scotland QueenLaBeefah..

“Please, please remember this: Scotland did not let you down. Please, I beg you, do not let Scotland down now.”

'I'm begging you, please - please'?? Blimmin eck' where's your pride, Mr Snivelling Bastard MEP? Your nation voted a certain way (and I don't agree with it either) but have some flipping dignity FFS. If I was a Scot I'd be even more embarrased than I am now, to see a Scottish MEP cringing for cheap applause.

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 20:02

If there was someone to be ashamed of in Brussels it wasn't Alyn Smith. It was your man Nigel.

Perhaps he wants a functional economy for Scotland, and isn't above building bridges to try to secure it?

Certainly better than Farage's childish narcissistic antics.

QueenLaBeefah · 30/06/2016 20:03

Nigel is a dick and so is Alyn Smith.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 30/06/2016 20:24

Some of you really can't see past your Daily Mail noses

I really hate this MN thing of being insulting and then crossing it out. Do you think it's less rude? Amusing?

It's not even a particularly clever insult either. I thought he was cringe making (viewed from the perspective of a Guardian and Telegraph reader)

LadyAntonella · 30/06/2016 20:33

I'm not English nor Scottish so totally biased unbiased Irishwoman person here. Scotland is so much better. I especially loved living in Edinburgh but I also like Glasgow and Aberdeen. I lived in Aberdeen briefly and it is very, very cold and dark in winter.

LadyAntonella · 30/06/2016 20:36

Oh sorry, to add, I have lived in various parts of England and Scotland. I'm not saying England isn't as good as Scotland but I definitely enjoyed what Scotland has to offer a bit more. Parts of England came close second, but where I am now (big town in Home Counties) isn't my favourite place to live. It's very expensive and too busy but without and of the cool stuff you find in big cities for my tastes. I want to move but can't convince pesky DH.

Eigg · 30/06/2016 20:41

Erm, what were you lot expecting a Scottish MEP to say? What speech would you have given in his position?

Beside Mitzy makes an excellent point, I'd pick Mr Smith over Mr Farage any day of the week. I was mortified watching him and no one would confuse me with a UKIP sympathiser.

PresidentCJCregg · 30/06/2016 20:43

Well this thread started off a laugh and has turned into a right old pile of bitter shite.

Come on up here OP. There is, at least, a sense of possibility in the air.

Brexit · 30/06/2016 20:47

Bye then

Stellar67 · 30/06/2016 20:53

Someone needs to start a house swap thread for people wishing to go either way. Make things far easier.

puppydogmummy · 30/06/2016 20:56

Fuck this shit, over here we're all getting Irish passports and heading for Dublin!

PresidentCJCregg · 30/06/2016 21:01

Stellar I've literally never heard of someone wanting to swap in the other direction. Grin

BoffinMum · 30/06/2016 21:10

Stellar, that is excellent. Sorted. Swap houses. The MN solution!

My children have actually started trying to learn how to do a Scottish accent. I kid you not, they are taking this seriously although it sounds terrible, as though they are taking the piss. They happen to be red-headed, we have a Scottish surname, some of their first names are quite Scottish, and DH's family are descended from the Stuarts so I think we might just fit in a bit better than one or two other types of English migrant. But it's the rain that puts me off. I have never been wetter than when I have been in Scotland.

Scotland is not a very nice place to live if you are English. Especially not with a second referendum potentially on the way.

PresidentCJCregg · 30/06/2016 21:20

zoo, sweeping statement or what? Confused

Boffin, Dundee is the sunniest city in Scotland.

zoobeedoo · 30/06/2016 21:25

Half English half Scottish, Scottish accent, put up with anti English bigotry and hatred all my life loving in this lovely welcoming little nation of ours. Work in education in an snp area and constantly dealing with English hatred comments that kids would be expelled for if the victim was being picked on for colour/race/religion. My brush is big enough to sweep.

BoffinMum · 30/06/2016 21:27

I think I have watched too much Monarch of the Glen.

So speak to me about Dundee. I hope there is a branch of Greggs or similar.

Eigg · 30/06/2016 21:29

zoo I'm sorry that you've been treated that way, it's appalling.

It may depend by area though. Where I live there are lots of English families or families with one English parent. No one even comments on it.

PresidentCJCregg · 30/06/2016 21:31

That's your personal experience then.

Dundee is a cool place. Lots of creative and digital stuff going on. The V and A will be opening next year at the Waterfront.

There's more than one Greggs. 3 universities. The Perth Road was recently given some title like 'best street in the uk'. It's got loads of bars and restaurants.

ExitPursuedByBear · 30/06/2016 21:35

The most hate I have ever experienced was from a Scottish lad in a campsite in the south of France. He told me if he had a gun he would shoot me. We were pissedand arguing about the Irish problem (in the 80s) but really, the vitriol.
