Neighbour furious that I didn't consult her before I cut back some bushes!

mumof2littlemonsters · 29/06/2016 18:20

About a week ago I chopped down some (not all) bushes in my front garden. I moved a small half shed there (it holds a couple of child's bicycles) temporarily whilst we are having building work. My neighbour has just marched up to me very aggressively wanting to know what I have done with the garden. Why hadn't she been consulted? She had enjoyed a yellow rose on the corner for 10 years (we moved in about 18 months ago) - what had I done with it? We have a beautiful apple tree in our front garden which is still there. I have been told by her in the past that I should chop it down (more than once). She used to cut a lavender in our front garden (it wasn't overgrown). It's really bizarre but it's like she thinks our garden is an extension of her own. I wouldn't for a minute expect to be consulted if she wanted to change her garden/chop down a rose bush etc etc. I don't want to fall out with neighbours but I haven't a clue how to handle this woman. Has anyone had anything similar?

Also, I think we may have devolved into this:

I'm 100% with Ficbia on this one as is HQ by the looks of deleted posts.

OP - I wouldn't buy her anything, just smile and nod and carry on with your gardening.

What's wrong with just saying ' she looks great?'

Horehound · 30/06/2016 10:57

So it is just about protecting feelings. If its a positive thing about age then its ok but if its negative it's not. Hmm I think this is becoming too much of a NANNY STATE.

It's not about protecting people's feelings. Would you say ' they look great... for a black person?' would you say ' They look great ... for a person in a wheel chair?

Please watch..

"I was offended, I was offended and I have rights!" That's you Ficbia.

I'm the "I don't care" type. People go out of their way to be offended.

gamerchick · 30/06/2016 11:50

You did derail the thread not merely get accused of it. Now you've made your repeated point are you done or is it a last word thing?

Good luck with your neighbour OP, I still recommend the gnomes Wink

myusernamewastaken · 30/06/2016 11:51

Op i think you have to be very firm and put this woman in her place or you will be asking her permission to do things in your garden for ever more....no need to be rude but you do need to be firm and assertive....why the fuck would you buy her flowers ffs

ficbia, I'm not sure why you would think I have advance searched you - I haven't. I could see this from your name on the thread in site stuff, and corresponding new NN.

Your previous posts, to me, are irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion. My point is that I know many people who find the word 'cunt' offensive. Yet it was in your NN, because you obviously don't.

Fair enough. But for someone who seems to look for poor intent and offence in the words of others, I find it surprising that it was in your NN as it's generally seen as a pretty strong word.

but then you go on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it. please don't do that.

YvaineStormhold · 30/06/2016 12:07

Is 'gnome' OK?

frets

Horehound · 30/06/2016 12:09

I don't care if MNHQ actually delete the posts but it's the way you go around policing every thread reporting like some little lap dog.

NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE OFFENSIVE. You seem to pick apart everything just to see some offense in it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/06/2016 12:10

I'm glad someone is!

Horehound · 30/06/2016 12:12

I've just asked MNHQ if we can ban the word cunt.
Maybe they can just ban swearing actually?
