Neighbour furious that I didn't consult her before I cut back some bushes!

mumof2littlemonsters · 29/06/2016 18:20

About a week ago I chopped down some (not all) bushes in my front garden. I moved a small half shed there (it holds a couple of child's bicycles) temporarily whilst we are having building work. My neighbour has just marched up to me very aggressively wanting to know what I have done with the garden. Why hadn't she been consulted? She had enjoyed a yellow rose on the corner for 10 years (we moved in about 18 months ago) - what had I done with it? We have a beautiful apple tree in our front garden which is still there. I have been told by her in the past that I should chop it down (more than once). She used to cut a lavender in our front garden (it wasn't overgrown). It's really bizarre but it's like she thinks our garden is an extension of her own. I wouldn't for a minute expect to be consulted if she wanted to change her garden/chop down a rose bush etc etc. I don't want to fall out with neighbours but I haven't a clue how to handle this woman. Has anyone had anything similar?

I think dwarf is ok but I'm sure ficbia will be on soon enough to advise.

But what about describing someone as "young beauty" or "old beauty" Is that ageist too or not because it's a positive comments rather than negative?

Surely it's just a describing word to give the reader a visual on their mind. :s

Ringadingdingdong22 · 29/06/2016 22:03

Fuck me this thread is funny for all the wrong reasons. Wondering how these professionally offended types get on in real life. Must get really tiresome being constantly offended.

Tell your neighbour to jog on with her zimmer frame if she says anything else Grin

Oakmaiden · 29/06/2016 22:05

she just got rid of her arse hole dickhead boyfriend

Nah, that's sexist. She should have just said "partner". we didn't need to know what gender he is.

Ficbia - when you report you aren't supposed to start a debate on the thread. Silently report and leave the thread. that's what you are supposed to do.

Horehound · 29/06/2016 22:06

Exactly

IdaDown · 29/06/2016 22:17

I've got grey pubes. Grin

YvaineStormhold · 29/06/2016 22:21

Tell her you had to cut back your bush because you couldn't find your clematis.

That'll shut her up.

FabFiveFreddie · 29/06/2016 22:38

dementedma

I think you'll find you're being just a tad gardensnobist with your comments there.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 29/06/2016 22:47

I constantly worry that my neighbours hate me because our garden is a never-ending work in progress. Nothing I can do about it, landscaping is expensive.

How is it ageist to call someone an old bat who you've never met, will never meet, doesn't know you exist and doesn't know you said it? Confused

Twinchaos1 · 29/06/2016 22:49

We had this once,we dug up a lawn and chopped down a conifer and planted a garden. Our neighbors made a fuss at the time, it was the back garden !

gamerchick · 29/06/2016 23:10

This thread is nuts, I have a mental image of a feral kid trailing the streets with a stick looking for cats to whack while their parent trawls the Internet for illegal happens.

I don't know what kind of 'ist' that says.

my neighbour always every year went a bit wibbly over the front garden we share with no dividing fence. She wanted me to dig up the bushes because they attracted bees and I wouldn't because I like bees and couldn't be arsed. So I gave her the garden to shut her hole. It was better than curtain twitching and ducking behind cars to avoid her every summer.

GingerMerkin · 29/06/2016 23:29

I was thrilled when I reached bat age. I wear it as a badge of pride.

OP I would tell your NDN to get a grip, your garden, your plants.

Ha indeed, I did a proper mutley there Grin

PerpendicularVincent · 30/06/2016 07:49

I find it strange that someone whose username contained the words 'cunt', 'fuck' and 'bugger' feels justified in lecturing others in the use of acceptable language.

Horehound · 30/06/2016 09:16

Lol i know! I wonder why Ficbia name changed :S

Another one popped into my head today - what about the saying "she looks great for her age" I take it that is no to be used now either?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/06/2016 09:18

I'm rather keen on words like fuck cunt and bugger.

Using those words is nothing like making age/disability related insults

LurkingHusband · 30/06/2016 09:22

Of course it's not just disablist posts that get deleted. Ablist ones have been too Grin ...

And deliberately derailing someone's thread (and more than one thread?) is the height of forum rudeness when reporting quietly and moving on is what you're supposed to do if you think something breaks the rules.

OneMillionScovilles · 30/06/2016 09:42

OFFS... Yes, the thread has been derailed. Yes, OP, your neighbour is unhinged - garden at will!

Ficbia is irritating me too, tbh, but I can't help but feel her heart is in the right place. Haven't seen the other thread(s) - but from this one, she looks reasonable (if somewhat strident).

Ficbia - as PPs said, report quietly, leave the thread and avoid the bun fight in future. Best for all concerned.

OneMillionScovilles · 30/06/2016 09:44

The racism question is interesting. I would like to think I'd report & leave, but it gets me very viscerally - my typing thumbs might develop a mind of their own Blush
