Swearing on Mumsnet

Kittyinthewood · 29/06/2016 16:34

Just a simple and maybe even a silly question - but why do people swear on Mumsnet? It just often makes peoples comments come across as so aggressive.....the swearing could so easily be avoided...and the comments come across as more considerd. I am interested to read what others think.....Thanks loads folks....XXX

OP has fucked off then

Fuck, I had a genuinely good fucking point to make.

I'll fuck off then back to the land of fuck where I came from.

Fucktrumpet indeed

Dawndonnaagain · 29/06/2016 19:32

and fucking hell, I've just read the other thread. Wow! Just wow! How dare you OP you rude, patronising, mean spirited ignoramus. There, no swearing. Now fuck off to the far side!

PortiaCastis · 29/06/2016 19:34

Whats the other thread about DawnDonna

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/06/2016 19:35

Off you fuck, CuntyChops

My favourite , in the whole wide world, phrase, ever!

sharknad0 · 29/06/2016 19:35

wow what brilliant examples of well thought and developed arguments!

It's fantastic, you must be right, swearing is a sign of maturity and intelligence, indeed! my mistake for being narrow-minded and judgmental.

TheUnsullied · 29/06/2016 19:36

sharknad0 ignoring intelligent points doesn't mean none were made.

TheUnsullied · 29/06/2016 19:38

I should also point out, sarcasm isn't a particularly intelligent way to make a point either. And when used poorly it's far more annoying than the odd swear word.

Dawndonnaagain · 29/06/2016 19:42

Portia Apparently those of us with children on the autisitic spectrum need to get out acts together and discipline them properly. Oh, and we shouldn't swear at people who very obviously know absolutely fuck all about our situation. Bloody wankpuffin!

Dawndonnaagain · 29/06/2016 19:44

It's interesting to note that many, many well researched articles note that those who swear generally have larger vocabularies than those who don't. Nothing wrong with a well aimed swear word of choice on occasion.

ilovesooty · 29/06/2016 19:47

I doubt that 2yummymummy2 would know a profession if it bit her on the arse.

MrsHathaway · 29/06/2016 19:49

sharknad0 might have been surprised to hear the language from the staff and parents at the vair vair posh prep school I used to work at.

They're just words if you limit yourself to the bodily functions ones (eg defecation, micturition, fornication). The sensitivity we have about them is purely that someone else might be offended about the word per se rather than the sentiment behind it.

Playful use of swear words shows great wit and intelligence. Infixing in particular - brilliant!

But most importantly, I'd far rather MNHQ spent their time policing casual (or intentional) use of offensive non-swear words such as disablist, racist or homophobic slurs than primly moderating a bit of good old Anglo Saxon.

SauvignonBlanche · 29/06/2016 19:52

FYI I've reported the OP for ellipsis abuse. Fucking hilarious. Grin

Dawndonnaagain · 29/06/2016 19:53

Well said MrsHathaway, only an onanist would use the slurs you describe.
Flowers

LadyIncuntliaButtock · 29/06/2016 19:58

It's great to believe yourself to be an open minded adult but at the same time being so rude and aggressive towards a "yummy mummy".

Yummy mummy = entitled cunt.

That is all.

Crunchymum · 29/06/2016 19:58

One of my previous user names had a swear word in it. I was going to go back to it but I kind of like my new name now.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 29/06/2016 19:59

I was typing something else earlier & my phone autocorrected to TWATBADGER.

In capitals. I was quite impressed.

YummyMummy, the insensitivity you're showing to those MNers who may be struggling to conceive or have lost their children is quite staggering.

Also, some of us never wanted kids in the first place but come here for the feminism, the friendship and the laughs. None of which are procreation-dependent.

AmberNectarine · 29/06/2016 20:03

If anyone I met in real life self-identified as a yummy mummy, I would be duty bound to tell them what a hopeless bellend they were. It's a matter of personal honour.

pointythings · 29/06/2016 20:08

Empress what phone is that? Mine won't let me type 'twat' without correcting it to something random. And I really needed to describe Nigel Farage at the time.

PortiaCastis · 29/06/2016 20:09

Jeez DawnDonna how could anyone be so horrible

SauvignonBlanche · 29/06/2016 20:13

I'd rather the OP was here patronising us about our use of language rather than lecturing people on how to cure autism with discipline. Angry

BastardGoDarkly · 29/06/2016 20:17

Op? Any fucking thoughts?

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 29/06/2016 20:20

Are you Kirsty Allsopp, Kitty?

She had the same rant about Twitter, yesterday.

Fucking pointless, if you ask me.

PurpleRainDiamondsandPearls · 29/06/2016 20:27

2yummymummy2 you're very outspoken for someone who's only just started posting today. Not a sockie, by any chance?

Kittyinthewood · 29/06/2016 20:51

Its taken a while to read the messages. Bed time routine etc etc. But thank you all.
The other thread commented about was resolved and was an amazing eye opener. I fell on my sword for that thread if you can be bothered to read it all. So should not really be put to reference with this thread. But hey whatever.
The swearing question was exactly that - a question made out of interest. Some of your comments have been been really fast, witty, clever and an education. So thanks. I only ask about the swearing because I really cannot decide what I think about it. But after reading all your great replies I might be swaying towards swearing def OK!! Or just whatever suits the poster really. I also did not know that about the Netmums site. So that is interesting too.
But honestly what is the beef against the XXXX's? Is it really such a no no? So the ...........'s are annoying....I will stop that.... No really I will stop it now honestly. Sorry - just trying to keep this fluffy!

OP posts:
BIWI · 29/06/2016 20:53

Why?! We're not fluffy on Mumsnet AT ALL! Have you not realised that?!

And definitely no signing your posts with kisses.

The ... aren't annoying on their own. They're annoying because it's a grammatical concept that you're using wrongly.
