Swearing on Mumsnet

Kittyinthewood · 29/06/2016 16:34

Just a simple and maybe even a silly question - but why do people swear on Mumsnet? It just often makes peoples comments come across as so aggressive.....the swearing could so easily be avoided...and the comments come across as more considerd. I am interested to read what others think.....Thanks loads folks....XXX

Who on earth uses the phrase Yummy Mummy, beyond those getting makeovers on This cunting Morning? It's a bit sad, middle-class-wannabe isn't it? Oh, and I have vaaary pawsh family, they swear like they spent years in the navy!

AllegraWho · 29/06/2016 18:44

I have family that have spent years in the fucking navy. They can swear in three languages.

Just read the other thread. Sweet shitting Christ.

All these years, and all I needed was a cunting expert in my home to help instill some discipline. Simple... when you know... how...

GiddyOnZackHunt · 29/06/2016 18:47

How very lower middle class of you yummy.
Now will the OP come back so I can tell her to fuck off.

HerRoyalFattyness · 29/06/2016 18:50

Fucking hell. OP you're a fucking delight aren't you? Hmm

As for yummymummy (what the actual fuck?) You've clearly never come across any truly posh people. You probably think all posh people call their children ptolomey and tarquin and shit. Grin

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 29/06/2016 18:56

I learnt a BRILLIANT new word yesterday. Absolute belter it is.

Swearers of Mumsnet - I give you.....

Fucktrumpet

Grin
Footle · 29/06/2016 18:57

What about us fucking old bats ? Should we be more circuntspect ?

UptownFunk00 · 29/06/2016 19:01

I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good Grin

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 29/06/2016 19:01

Fuck me, that other thread.

And you can shove your fucking ellipsis up your hole.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 29/06/2016 19:01

There was no swearing on that thread.

Even though it would have been very much deserved.

sharknad0 · 29/06/2016 19:03

sadly people swear just as much in real life, it's sad when they are surrounded by children but there is nothing anyone can do. You can chose a decent school for your kids to avoid these people, but you will still hear them in soft plays, parks and fun places for the kids. It seems to be mainly female behaving that way, I have noticed that men stop or even apologise if they see me with young kids.

It's just laziness, some people think a swear word or an insult is enough to prove a point and save them from having to articulate an intelligent argument. It's great to believe yourself to be an open minded adult but at the same time being so rude and aggressive towards a "yummy mummy". No wonder there are so many threads about bitchiness at the school gates!

user7755 · 29/06/2016 19:05

Chardonnay - It's not too late to change that Wink

Mind you, it's not the OPs thread is it? Scratch that, the OP of that thread was looking for support not giving people a bollocking.

Asprilla11 · 29/06/2016 19:05

I think the vast majority of people who swear in real life do so by picking their audience and occasion before swearing.

Hearing and seeing someone swearing face to face has a different impact than the written word.

Seeing written swear words on a totally anonymous internet forum, which has many topics, is not the same thing at all. If the internet put an end to swearing half of all websites would disappear.

Oh and Fuck Off Smile

Grin at someone with yummy mummy in their username berating us for 'lack of class'.

glasgowlass · 29/06/2016 19:08

Uh huh.

But it's OK for the so called "yummymummy" to come on here & be condescending to "these people"? These people ffs.

Fuck off you spunktrumpet. Get over yourself.

I fear there may be puppetry of the sock kind on here.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 29/06/2016 19:08

No, not needed, the other posters there put her in place beautifully. s

Just don't get the whining.

pointythings · 29/06/2016 19:12

Just read OP's responses on that thread about the children with autism and I have only one thing to say.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck...... off.

user7755 · 29/06/2016 19:14

Sharknado the point of the rudeness towards Yummymummy is to demonstrate that whilst some people make ill informed judgements about people who swear and dislike it intensely, other people find things like yummymummy to be just vomit inducing and might make judgements based on this.

We are not all the same. I'd hate to exist in the head of someone with such a narrow view of life that they assumed someone who swears is lazy or unintelligent. Shows a dreadful lack of imagination and understanding

KayTee87 · 29/06/2016 19:20

Same reasons people swear in real life I suppose...

Dawndonnaagain · 29/06/2016 19:22

Dear YummyMummy,
Your working class background is showing.

TheUnsullied · 29/06/2016 19:24

Of course it's possible to make an intelligent point without swearing. It's also possible to make an intelligent point without naming any of the seven dwarfs. See how irrelevant both of those are? Swearing is a facet of vocabulary just like any other and it spans through all social classes and intelligence levels. The idea that people swearing automatically speaks to their class and intelligence is ridiculous.

sharknad0 · 29/06/2016 19:24

user7755 I am not assuming anything, just observing Grin

user7755 · 29/06/2016 19:29

Observing? That conclusion probably says more about your associates than people who swear to be honest.

TheUnsullied has captured the point perfectly.
